In this bass lesson we go over the classic country bass line, perfect in it's simplicity. I use both a Fender Jazz and Hofner Club for this bass lesson so you can also compare tone when playing these bass lines.

Hey Stevek, I've been working on watching your Bass Guitar for Beginners video, a few more minutes to go. It's been VERY helpful to me, and this one as well!! I picked up acoustic / electric long ago and wanted to play in our church group, but they have 3 guitar players already, 2 are pretty good and the third guy is over 70 and played many years 6 days a week as his job. He can really rock it. So I watched a video or two, picked up a used bass and practised playing along to songs at home in my "studio" for 6 or 7 months. Mentioned to one of the music group my intentions, since we had lost our bass player a year or so before. He said come out to practise before the service. I could play fairly basic stuff, the odd step up or down....but I'd like to step up my game. Now I can practise what you have shared and hopefully kick it up a notch in the coming year. So, a heartfelt thanks for your help. Your explanation of things is spot on for my needs, many "aha!" moments. Kudos good sir and you've earned a subscriber, and commenter too.

I love to hear you had that "Aha" moment! That's awesome. Yeah, quite a few players have told me they intend to play in the church. I hope I can help you discover new things.

Wonderful lesson! Loved to play along with you :) How hard is to play bass and sing for you? I find itway harder than rock and blues stuff. What effects are you using on vocals on Wayfering Stranger? Greetings from Poland!
@stevekonbass
@stevekonbass Год назад
Thanks and "Hello Poland!" For me, playing and singing is pretty easy. But, I've been doing it a long time and repetition helped. I was just using a reverb on my Zoom R16 recorder. Here's a video tutorial on it if you're interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n_44S76OPYQ.html

Best time of year, when it's cold. Yes, prefer J over P. Thinner neck and wider variety of tone.

I’m not sure if I’m not hearing it but I don’t know if your saying what fret to play?
@stevekonbass
@stevekonbass Год назад
Root and fifth. So, let's say the song is in A. Play A (the root note) on the fifth fret E string, and the E ( the fifth) on the 7th fret A string. If we used the key of G as example, it would be G (the root) 3rd fret E string, and D (fifth) 5th fret A string. Hope that makes sense.

How do you 'walk back up' like with what notes please
@stevekonbass
@stevekonbass Год назад
Well, let's say we're in A major and we're doing the country root to fifth line... A E A E A E A... we can walk up by playing E F# G# A. So the whole line would be A E A E A E A E F# G# A
