I had the RROD 3 times when I stayed in Houston, Tx and the only reason I didn't overreact is because it takes just a short time for me to get it back because the place where they fix the systems are/were in McAllen, Tx.

Say I've heard of so many Xbox's such as the premium pack along with the Elite saying that those Xbox's in percise always get RROD or something, and mean while you hear lesser of the Arcade console getting the RROD, I'm happily to say that I've had my Xbox 360 Arcade for a year and not once has it showed me no RROD or any false corruption, I guess it was a good pick :D, but then again if you take care of it properly and clean it every now and then, its a system made to work a lifetime.

My 60 gig had the yellow light and then it had the disc read error. 60 gigs were known to die out, compared to all the other models which hardly die out.

@Justin10473 Yes, because they have good tech (for the times they were made in) which makes them worth over $200. And they both have good games. PS3 has inFAMOUS (which is the best game i've played in the past 12 years), Resistance series, Ratchet & Clank Future series, Killzone 2 amd above, God OW 3, every single PS1 game, and what do you want there to be online for PS3? You can play online, there's a friends list, a virtual store AKA all the neccesities. And 360 has Gears OW series, Halo

They really went all out here. I didn´t get any Live cards and that fucking fix took 2 and a half months. After all that UPS driver left my XBox to my neigbors house ´cause why the fuck not. Neighbor was in good mood that day and decided to give it back almost same day.

I have a Green Halo 3 Edition XBOX 360 that has had one minor problem that was fixed with Microsoft support the next day and has worked, other than that, perfectly for nearly 7 years. Would mine be considered a later and more efficient model than the 1st ones or one of the 1st models and I'm just lucky? lol

When I sent my xbox for repair (not RROD) I had put some apple stickers on it that came with my ipod but when they returned my xbox the apple stickers were gone :'(

Do u ever look at the date of the video and yes the slim is more reliable. I've had my preordered reach special edition xbox for 4 years and it still works. I have like 3 xbox 360 originals in my garage all red ringed

I got RROD twice. I've seen my friend's console's die. I've had more trouble with the 360 than any of my other systems(N64, NES, Gamecube, PS2, Wii, DS lite, GBA, DSi, PC.) Older consoles are better built. Higher specs are no excuse to create something that will strangle itself for no reason.

It's usually the old models that's the problem. Some of them weren't reliable in terms of bad hardware, which is why they release newer revision models to increase their reliability.

+TheGamingNacho Actually, the "actual" RROD happens because of a general hardware failure. It depends on how many lights are lit up. See the Wikipedia article for more info.

ploxelwelfelf the most common rrod was due to over heating which caused the xclamp to become loose an easy fix though dangerous was to wrap a town around your 360 with just the power lead and superheat your console for 5 minutes or so it worked for me on two Xbox’s.

It's not as frequent of a problem, but it still does happen that the PS3 gets the Yellow Light of Death.

my ps3 broke down after 1 week the blu-ray drive didn't work it tryied to spin the disk i could hear it trying but when i opened it (the super slim) it wasn't spinning i had it replaced after 1 week and i have it for 8 months now and no problem it was just one bad console out of 10000

Thing is the more a console is designed to do the more likely it will have a problem. This is why you have so many sega genesis' out there still playing like they are brand new. Even more crazy is the number of working Atari 2600s. The simpler the device, the less moving parts, the more reliable it is likely to be.

Which one is better? I agree with mark, I don’t care which one anyone likes, I’m a PlayStation guy because I grew up with one. Same thing for the fourth generation, I prefer the genesis, but I still like Nintendo.

My friend just gave me his broken X-Box, it freezes the second I turn it on but the lights still work just like this. I'm color blind so I thought the lights where red, lol!

***** Luckily if you're serious then that's an easy fix with no need for warranty. Just replace the 72-pin connector. I've done that to a few older consoles and it always works and only costs about $8-9 :) (The flashing means it can't read the game)

I still laugh that they had to make a new version of this thing that is "less likely to break." People care too much about money now, if it breaks after a few years, then they will have to buy a new one! My PS2 is over 10 years old and still works like a charm. I left it on for a month once to beet Spiro since I didn't have a memory card, and the air out the back was cold! Moving parts do mean less reliability, but if you use good motors/overheat safety shutoffs, it can still work well.

But then again most of you would mention it still freezes on you for no apprent reason, and there's a solution to that and in my opinion it's too much info going into one system that can only take so much at a time and it will freeze and I wouldn't blame it. I happen to be a technology nerd in most part of my life and knowing this to help others out is a task im here to help on anythime :D I my self have worked with PCs a lot and the Xbox in the same category I deal with cause it to is like a PC

I have like 6 of them! I actually had a PS2 one then, but it was a PS1 game so it wouldn't save on it. I didn't really know much about buying stuff at the time or else I would have just gone to Gamestop or looked online.

When I bought mine, I got 5 years warranty. It's been 2 years since i bought it, and nothing has ever happened, so, Xbox, if you should get the red ring of death, you better get it within the three next years :)

Every console breaks down eventually... Pcs, PS3, Wiis, and 360s. It's not about what breaks and when it breaks, its about whether or not your warranty covers it. ^^

I got my xbox for christmas 2007 and it was one of the first Elite systems, came with Forza2/MarvelvsCapcom or sumshit. I got an extended warranty at best buy and its been sent in 2 times, I cant wait for the next time it breaks so I get a new one(accordingto my warranty) FUCK MICROSOFT THEY OWE US ALL AN EXPLANATION AND ANYWHERE FROM 250-600$ REDEMPTION IN MICROSOFT PRODUCTS.and thats being reasonable people.

Though I got to say Microsoft has decent customer support if you aren't a douche to them. Though honestly any hardware known for crapping out and seizing up, isn't worth trusting. That's the issue. not the game devs, or the companies that publish games. It's the hardware that's unreliable. (not to mention, the HDD isn't something I think should be proprietary for any system)

In the uk when your xbox brakes and it's under warranty you just take it back to were you bought it and bring the receipt and they give you a new one and send your broken back to microsoft. None of this posting it to get repaired and shit. I have had about 5 xbox's brake on me and each one i just took back the the shop i bought it from and they gave me a new one there and then. Even if the xbox is pre-owned and under warranty you just take it back and they give you a brand new one.

i've had my 360 since october.. reading all these comments makes me think that around next year... it will break,... i have warranty anyway, and i'm not like... super addicted, i dont play 24/7.. but maybe when i get some games i will.... i just think xbox shouldent break... i mean, non other does, i have a sega megadrive and it works after AT LEAST 9/10 years... (i cant remember i was very young when i played it)

@kyconny Will start to wear off the chips, mostly due to the pressure and exposure the xclamps do. To do a fix that will work 99% of the time (if you do it right) replace the thermal compound on the chips. Another problem is the heat sinks (the little things that look like maxi pads stuck to the motherboard) Pennie's wrapped in electric tape work better than the crap that comes with your xbox. Microsoft could prevent almost all RROD's with about 50 cents worth of thermal compound, pennies & tape

@kyconny Well the xbox breaks because of heat but that's not entirely why to my knowledge. People who have coolers, point fans on their xboxs, keep them elevated so no vents are blocked, etc. are still EVENTUALLY going to get it (unless they have the jasper which rarely has it). The xclamps are poorly designed which make a pressure point on the chips. It takes about 30 minutes of playing straight to start the destruction cycle. Over time, after about 30 minutes of playing, the thermal compound

Yeah, my Wii broke after 3 years with it... but my N64, which I've had for over a decade, still works (who knew that a console that's two generations old would outlast the current gen)... I wish all consoles still ran on cartridges, they seem to work more reliably for some reason. Plus, there's something very nostalgic about them

@avengedsevenfold96 If you don't know what to do do following:Put a fan behind 360 and wait 10 minutes,if that does not work do the following:Put out your HDD,slap your 360 few times and put HDD back on again,if even that won't help put 360 horizontal and push it as strong as you can down while turning it on,if that won't do call Microsoft!

xbox 360 is better when it comes to gameplay cuz multiplateform games have higher framerate on it, but ps3 is more durable i still prefer the ps3 , but they are all the same, if u have money get a 360 because u can buy a new one any time u want, but low budget people get a ps3

This console era may go down as the "unreliable console era", I'm currenly on my 2nd PS3 (originally a 40GB Fat model, now a Super-Slim model) in just about 4 years, and 3rd Xbox 360 in about 5 years. Yet I have a PS2 that's lasted about 10 years so far, and a PS1 for about 13 years so far.

Speak for yourself, my brother is on his 3rd PS3 from Yellow Light of Death faults, while I'm on my 3rd 360 from RROD. Only somewhat reliable console of this generation is the Wii, PS3 & 360 are almost as bad as each other for unreliability.

Ive had my xbox 360 for 2 and a half years and i played it regularly and it got me the RROD. But the xbox service is really good. I send it from portugal to germany and in the same week it was here.

man you can't compare the xbox 360 with another console system, that atary may have a graphycs no more than 8 or 16 bit, and those aint have an a HardDrive, or a DVD stuff that get hot when you are playing

I was extremely pleased with Microsoft over my xbox 360 warranty. They sent me a brand new xbox within 2 weeks, and game me a free month of xbox live :)
