Joust review! classicgameroom.com/vaultpages...
Classic Game Room reviews JOUST for Nintendo Entertainment System from 1988 by HAL Laboratory! The 1982 bird-assing arcade classic lands with precision on the NES with sharp graphics, good sounds and quality controls. Flap your wings and land on top of enemy riders, it's Joust!! CGR Joust NES video review has Joust gameplay from the arcade classic, Joust, on Nintendo!

I played the Atari 800 version SO MUCH, I figured how to insert myself between the two lower right platforms and could clip across them reliably, which is nifty for trick shots or escaping the pterodactyl (but mostly for flexing).

Addicted to Smash Bros. right now and I gotta say, the map layout for Joust looks like a good fit for a map, and the way the platforms disappear the farther you progress looks like a simple yet effective stage hazard!

The new Balloon Fight stage is more or less the equivalent of the Joust map. Would have been cool to see the Balloon Fight guy make an appearance as a playable character.

Gameplay is what makes the Atari 7800. The graphics are good, sounds typically suck, but there is just something about the way Atari games handle.

I mean for all we know he shot this video at the same time you saw one five years ago. I have no idea how things like that work in space or how those videos get here, but it's a possibility~

Null Void pretty sure he probably just "beams" the vids down to earths internet once he's done making them.. as for your other theory, not sure.. that's too deep even for me.

The graphics look good, but the NES couldn't compete with the arcade sound effects. The classic Williams arcade games had the best sound effects in the business, which probably came from their decades of experience with sound effects for pinball machines. HAL also made Defender II (a port of arcade Williams Stargate) for the NES, and that was severely lacking in the sound effects department too. The only classic cartridge-based consoles that have truly good versions of Williams arcade games such as Joust, Defender, Robotron 2084, and so on, are the SNES and Sega Genesis, i.e., Williams Arcade's Greatest Hits.

While the original Joust was created by Williams Electronics, this version was actually ported to the NES by HAL Laboratory. Originally it was for a failed deal that Nintendo made with Atari to distribute the Famicom outside Japan. However this deal fell apart and Joust was not released in the USA till four years after it was created and ported and was released under the HAL America brand.

If Sucker Punch had been smart and REALLY wanted to make an accurate Seattle in InFamous: Second Son, they would've gone the Shenmue route and made a functioning video arcade where I could've gone to play Joust, Pac-Man, and maybe a 2D platformer of an 8-bit Sly Cooper. Of course, they probably knew those games were better than the high-gloss trash heap they were creating, so they poured all their resources into the Space Needle, shipped the game out the door and called it a day. Obviously hoping the gamers would be too transfixed by the graphics to notice how awful the actual game is.
