If you have GPS on your phone, most lands can get a little mappy IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!? Seriously though, a good time. / travplaysgames / polykill intro/outro: / hokiebriz polykill.com / polykill
Neat! I've always liked Mappy. I played it on the NES before, on one of those multi-game pirate carts, but I guess it was the Famicom version. I didn't know Mappy wasn't released here or that Mappy-Land was a different game. I learned something new today! The More You Know 🌈⭐
I love Mappy-Land, along with the original Mappy. They’re really fun and great games. I got so happy when the Famicom versions of Mappy and Mappy-Land finally got re-released on Namco Museum Archives Vol.1 and 2 recently :) Hopping Mappy and Mappy Kids are also really great too. There’s also a rare-modernized 90’s Arrangement version of Mappy called Mappy Arrangement. It’s released in Namco Classic Collection Vol. 1 for Arcade, which is included along with the recreational version of the original Mappy.
I absolutely love Mappy (imo one of the best arcade themes of all time) but I've actually never once played Mappy-Land. Dunno why. Great video on it, though. This was a lot of fun.
Hey brother! Yeah, I just made a community post regarding that. I take a week off before a compilation video so another coming next week! Thanks for asking!
It's hard to imagine why this was released in the US in 1989. Mappy is pretty far down the list of memorable arcade properties of 1983, at least in the west. And this was a 1986 update of a 1983 game released in 1989, which meant it was pretty dated compared to it's competition. It's a game that would have made a lot more sense to release in the US in 1987. I would have to assume Taxan didn't have any other game ready to fill it's allocated slot with Nintendo and it wasn't tough to port to English. This isn't to say it's not a fun game, it's just hard to imagine kids in America telling their parents they would rather have Mappy-Land than other recently released games like Ninja Gaiden or Zelda II, and if people were looking for a classic arcade game then Q*Bert had been just been released on the NES, and there were recent arcade releases like Marble Madness, Paperboy, and Rampage. While I'm happy the game exists, it's hard to believe many people bought it except video rental stores who bought everything.
@@daywalker3735 It's a pretty early NES game. Came out a year later after Super Mario Bros in Japan for the Famicom. All that being said, for a game that came out 1986, Mappy-Land looks really good graphically for its time. Definately looks better than Super Mario Bros to be honest. Let's face it, Super Mario Bros may look "iconic", but even for its time, Super Mario Bros looks dated graphically.
I played many many hours of the Mappy port on the NES when I was a kid, never knew there was a sequel! btw, have you ever tried Don Doko Don 2? It's a pretty neat game that, afaik, doesn't have much popularity.
It does look pretty Atari 2600-ish, but it's pretty charming in my opinion. It's one of those games where don't let the graphics fool you. It's not the best looking graphics for NES, but it does have a really great and addicting Gameplay, along with a with great soundtrack. And really, as long as the game is really fun, that's what matters the most. Mappy-Land is one of the best games of all time in my opinion.
