Lost art! I used to love to go into the cobbler down the street...the smell...omg. 😊...That was in the 60s. I don't know if they still do this type of work today, I wish they did!! ❤ Fantastic.
I live in Metuchen, NJ. There's a shoe repair shop in the next town over in Woodbridge, NJ. They do a lot of niche stuff like key copies to stay in business. I think doing these niche tasks, is the only thing that could/would keep a shoe repair shop in business.
I love watching people doing their craft so well. Because they truly know what they’re doing so well, they make it seem effortless and artful. It’s soothing to see it done with such precision and perfection.

As a little girl I used to visit an elderly shoemaker and his wife for hours at their neighbour hood shop. Many happy memories. This is calming for me.
I just got a really basic cobbler machine to be able to sew leather. I have a friend who is a smith and he hates making sheaths. Im gonna learn to sew them for him. Today I made a belt. It wasnt very good, but I made it and it fits. Im proud of myself. I fucked up on the rivets... Ill do better next time, but for now its servicable and i can make skirt hikes to match it. Wish me luck!
I remember when many men wore those with suits, ties, handerchiefs and hats. Watches, tie tacks, cufflinks, nice belts. I miss them and when I get the money I'm going to start dressing well again.
