The 'I Dream of Jeannie' cast nailed it...and the team of Hagman - Bill Daily were perfect together. God, Larry Hagman could be hysterical as a 'victim'.

Team Jeannie! Roger and Dr Bellows are amazing supporting characters. It's so funny how Tony's life should be a dream because he has a beautiful woman who can grant him any wish and only wants to please him, so his life is perfect right? No! She's always causing so much trouble trying to help him when he didn't ask for it 😂 he always begs Jeannie not to use her magic and she does it anyway and then they have to use it again to get out of the trouble it started in the first place 😂 such a great show. Love this video!

Fun stuff. If I had to choose, it would be Bewitched, but only because I'm way more familiar with it. Pretty sure as a kid, I saw every episode, most multiple times. I've seen IDoJ much less, but have been thinking about fixing that. And yeah, the latter, does sound (especially when you see Eden's genie in a belly-dancer uniform) like a set-up for an adult movie, but is as safe as most 60s sitcoms as I recall.

I prefer I Dream of Jeannie. I love that she's both submissive and dominant at the same time. She refers to Nelson as Master ( which is funny because he freed her in the first episode ), but at the same time is very self aware she's a lot more powerful than he is. The entire premise is good too. They're clearly in love with each other from episode 1 and can barely stand being away from each other. And at the end of the day it makes me laugh more than Bewitched. But both shows are pretty amazing.

I dunno, IMO Jeannie was way more rebellious than Samantha.... Samantha usually always TRIED to obey Darrin, she was willing to try to live under the terms of not being true to what was natural to her to fit his world. And would Darrin would catch Samantha disobeying him she would usually grovel to him. Jeannie, on the other hand, would say, "Yes, Master" but ultimately did what she wanted. And if Jeannie thought she knew BETTER than Tony, she would outright not obey him, she would FORBID him from going places sometimes, she would blink him into a drawer, into her bottle, etc... and keep him there... Jeannie practically ran that house lol

Having said that, BEWITCHED is my all time favorite sitcom with a message of love, acceptance, and a "mixed marriage" that Darrin and Samantha made work, in a mortal world so quick to judge others. And what great casts, both shows led by two wonderful women. R.I.P. Liz. Excellent video.

I am crazy-loyal to Robert Montgomery and because his daughter stars in Bewitched, I always told myself that that show is better (when compared to I Dream of Jeannie) BUT when it comes right down to it, I cannot choose one over the other (no matter how much I love Robert Montgomery). I grew up watching reruns of both shows on cable TV and I really did enjoy both equally. I liked the home-yness of Bewitched and I like the outta-this-world mood and setting of I Dream of Jeannie. Nah guys, I can't choose. Loving the new intro and set-up - very well done Heath & Bree!

Actually, Sidney Sheldon (the creator of I Dream of Jeannie) got the idea from the movie The Brass Bottle (that co-starred Barbara Eden) he got Barbara Eden because she was in that movie (because different brunettes were not beautiful and funny) but he wanted her for the Jeannie role. The pilot was actually filmed on December 2-4 (the unaired pilot) the aired pilot had an extra scene filmed (the sneezing scene). So, with that out of the way, both shows are good, different, but good and funny. Bewitched got me into Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Great review, great intro. Now if you will excuse me, I will go watch I Dream of Jeannie on DVD.

I like the new opening credits. Fun video. To be honest, even as a kid, the only weird 60 sit-com I watched regularly in syndication were the Munsters, the Addams Family, The Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres. I preferred the more realistic sit-coms such as Leave It to Beaver, The Andy Griffith Show, Sanford and Son, Mary Tyler Moore and the Bob Newhart Show. I think Elizabeth Montgomery and Barbara Eden were the best things about each show and incredibly sexy. Montgomery is very compelling in the Twilight Zone episode she was in with Charles Bronson, the Thriller episode with Tom Poston, JOHNNY COOL and many of the made for TV movies she was in after BEWITCHED. Same for Barbara Eden in FLAMING STAR, THE BRASS BOTTLE (source for I DREAM OF JEANNIE?), THE SEVEN FACES OF DR. LAO and the TV movies she was in after JEANNIE.

I Dream of Jeannie is what I preferred, though Bewitched was funny in its own way. I do believe the first 4 seasons were the show’s strongest, with Season 1 being the absolute strongest, it had the best scripts in that season. I feel the network forcing Tony and Jeannie to marry in the last season was the wrong move, and it showed, ratings tanked and the show was cancelled.

I'm sad to say, until you mentioned they were different shows - I didn't realized they were. I watched them as a preteen in the 80s and they were grouped together with a lot of other 60s shows when shown locally. Star Trek grabbed my attention the most, but I never developed a distinction between them. I find TV shows mostly formulaic so I hardly watch old ones other that Star Trek, and a guilty pleasure of Wild Wild West lol. Otherwise, and unfortunately, I haven't watched them as an adult. Thanks for straightening me out, I need to correct this course of action lol

I loved Barbara Eden and I’ll admit that she was my first crush (even beating out Mary Ann from Gilligan’s Island). I felt the humor was better timed in “I Dream of Jeannie” and you just couldn’t get mad at her, despite her mistakes. And she was super sexy. She wanted to please Tony and her heart was totally into that. Although I watched “Bewitched” it felt like a fight was always brewing in the Stephen’s home. It was uncomfortable to watch. Darrin had a perpetual stick up his rump and demanded to do things the hard way. His character was really a big wiener. And I always despised the episodes where one of Samantha’s inept relatives visited and messed things up. Or they conjured up someone from history/fairy tale and had to figure out what to with them. And it always turned out to be some clever advertising gimmick that Larry Tate loved. Ugh. Clearly, I would have let the ladies do their thing without an argument breaking out. They both had the powers to make life easier and that’s good, right? I always envisioned Samantha and Darrin getting a divorce. Or maybe Endora finally had enough of “Derwood” and got rid of him for good.

I was sad to see the delay announcement since this is one of my most anticipated releases of the entire year, but I believe it will be worth the wait. The world is not in a normal place right now and I'm sure everyone is doing their best. There are backups at replicators, all sorts of material shortages, and only a few pressing plants are serving the needs of all the distributors and studios. I feel grateful we're getting it at all. In terms of creating the episodes, I Dream of Jeannie had more ideas for episodes. Bewitched does, but from Season 2 - 8, they started to remake episodes. A Vision of Sugar Plums, and Samantha Meets the Folks were repeated twice in Seasons 1 and 2, in Season 2, they recycled footage from the original and filmed a new cold open. Also, I Dream of Jeannie only copied 1 episode, weareas Bewitched copied 6 I Dream of Jeannie episodes.

Well, Samantha the witch was more intelligent, so could better utilize her skills. I would trust her with my checkbook. . . . . .But Jeannie worn a chiffon bikini, and worshipped her master. . . . and depended on Tony's intelligence to profit from the magic. It was up to him to wish for a problem solution, and he never got control of that. 20/20 TV hindsight, I think I could. . . so I'd rather have Jeannie.

But today at 59 I can watch Bewitched over and over again, and I have, I tried re-watching Jeannie and just can't get through 1 season, Bewitched aged better with time, well written and funny show, I hate both Darrin and Tony, both were total azzes and idiots, but Tony had to be dumber, Roger had the right idea!

Wow - it's amazing to me that your knowledge of these shows admittedly comes from the "Nick at Nite" era of the 90's! I just turned 60 this year, and I pretty vividly remember both shows when they were on prime time and of course went into reruns almost immediately. Since you mention "Nick at Nite," how can you leave out from your discussion the Nick at Nite "vote" (which I think may have been in summer 1994, maybe 1995?), where people called in to a voicemail (the Internet was pretty much in its infancy back then) and voted "Who was more powerful - Samantha or Jeannie?" Some people gave their reasons, and Nick at Nite sometimes aired these voicemails. Anyhow, whoever won the vote, Nick at Nite would show a whole evening of the winner's shows - and it was, hands-down, Samantha, as no man was her "master." (Yes, I like both shows too. I can't remember who I voted for in that Nick at Nite contest.)

Watching all of the episodes of Bewitched were good, but from Seasons 2-8 it felt like I was watching the same episodes a few times over and over again in each season. So, I looked the episodes up and from Seasons 2-8 they remade episodes from previous seasons. In fact their first 2 episodes they remaked were "A Vision of Sugar Plums," and Samantha Meets the Folks," both episodes recycled footage from the original and filmed a brand new opening. Although I Dream of Jeannie copied only 1 Bewitched episode, Bewitched copied 6 Jeannie episodes. It felt like I was watching The Three Stooges, they remade most of their shorts starting from 1947-1959.

To be fair, Darren is abjectly awful in every single episode of Bewitched. He talks down to his wife and orders her around for pretty much the entire series. So Samantha having the power to stop that and do whatever she wants was “subversive” in a really exciting way for audiences at that time.

Both shows were filmed at Warner Ranch and their houses could be seen in each others external shots. They just finished demolishing all of the ranch (which stopped being a "ranch" in the 50s) where the Partridge family also lived and the fountain scene in Friends was filmed. Currently it's about 40 white trucks, a lot of dirt and a brick wall being put up. So much for "walls don't work". Elizabeth Montgomery hated the Genie show because she knew it was a rip off and was taking some of her audience.
