Hi Greg, Nice to see that you are one of the buyers of the Hobson archive. I saw all the Mike Hobson videos last year, did not bid on them because of being in Europe and did not like all the hassle getting them to Europe IF I would have bought some. Love to see more of what you have in your collection. I’m currently in the UK and trying to find some nice classical music recordings which I have done a lot in the mid 2010’s. But currently there is almost nothing to find anymore in good condition. If you can find them in VG+ condition the prices are out of this world. Better to go for re-issues of the best re-issue companies. Found a UK second pressing 1968 Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland (no classical music, ha, ha) in VG++ condition, white text, for GBP150 that I picked up. About 10 years ago I could still find original UK pressings, EMI and Decca for GBP1,00, but those times are long gone…
@SaffierB The auctions were also during Lakers season and happened always around 8-9 PM while I was watching the game and spaced out so many of them! I'm so bummed about that...
Awesome! Bravo! I’m drooling over all the records you showed. I love that EMI Falla 3-cornered hat recording by Rafael Frühbeck De Burgos/Victoria de los Angeles very, very much! But, I don’t think I need to tell you that one MUST listen to the Ernest Ansermet/OSR Decca SXL2296 recording by Roy Wallace in Victoria Hall, Geneva. I’d recommend, other than streaming, the cheapest route: an early 1988 CD under the Decca Ovation label #417 771-2 (pressed in Germany). It’s hidden after the piece “Nights in the Gardens of Spain” played by Alicia de Larrocha, also a gem in the vast Decca catalogue.
Alicia de Larrocha, I do have the Alicia de Larrocha, She made some real gems on Decca! I don't stream or have a CD player...I only listen to vinyl in the listening room...In my studio where I paint all day long I do listen to spotify, Haha. I have like a 100 dollar chinese tube amp that for some reason sounds absolutely killer out of some 1980 Klipsch Chorus.
I have no doubt that these records sound great, but I watched him present these on RU-vid and you have to laugh at the idea that this guy thinks he has the best sounding copy of every record he owns
@henryoliver2833 Haha, I know, I must say that the majority of them are stunning, mint like copies of originals but there were a couple in there that were duds with noise and clicks and pops.
