Girl don't be surprised about how many subscribers you're getting.. your personality is contagious and you're just too cute for words.. love watching your videos and seeing your room coming together.
Grace I was going to say the same thing!! It would look so cute for each door to be a different color. She could use regular paper or contact paper (which would probably last longer since students have to get in and out of them)
PuttingFourthEffort Thanks girl!! So happy to have so many supportive teachers here that know a thing or two to help out 💗 also I’m totally using this comment as an excuse to continue my earring collecting!! 🤗
30 minute video? Yes please!!! I’m going into my senior year of high school and am sooo excited to pursue a career in teaching! Your videos are awesome and inspire me a ton!! BTW i would loveee to see a video on what’s in your portfolio (it looked amazing in your hiring experience video!!) 😊💗
Thank goodness for matching your borders. Every teacher I've seen that does a rainbow theme goes overboard with so many different rainbow things. Matching is definitely the way to go. Your room is turning out beautiful!
Your channel is growing so quickly because your content is so much fun to watch! You are adorable and you have such a fun personality. Really looking forward to continuing to watch your journey!
Elementary In The Mitten OK WOW!! Thank you so much- your videos had me so fired up to get into my space this year. Thank you for encouraging my rookie self 💛
Safety Tip #77 - Never stand on a Swivel Chair From the book- Officer Buckle and Gloria I read it every year to my 1st graders for introductions to rules! :) This will be my 6th year in 1st grade!
Love your videos. Don’t forget the cabinet doors over your sink. Those doors are perfect real estate for the word wall. Please don’t change your way of being. Don’t let all those subscribers change you. You will be amazing.
I would consider having the anchor charts on the closet doors closest to your front carpet. I just finished my first year teaching, and having those anchor charts close to the whole group area was so helpful! The kids refer to them all the time 🎉💖
My husband bought me a handheld vaccuum for my classroom because he knows I hate spiders and the attachment is long enough on it so I dont have to get too close! Way to be brave. Love your personality and your room!!
I looooove your videos! Your WOW work doesn't have to have a paper for each kid... 1) your class size can change & you'd have to keep adding 2) it was really hard to keep up with my first year on top of everything else, I kept the same papers up for most of the year. My second year I did 8 spots and rotated which kids were shown! Just a thought. :)
If you have assigned seating you could also make really cute name tags for the seats. Print a ruler on it so you don’t have to keep as many of those on hand, and no excuse if someone “forgot” one. Maybe add something else handy on it
I’m about to be a freshman in college studying Elementary Education and I am living for your videos! This makes me so excited to begin my journey to becoming a teacher and to set up a room of my own some day! Thank you for sharing your journey and tips!
Hi! I love your videos. I am a 4th grade teacher in Texas. I have a suggestion for you: what if your student work is hanging outside your room? That's what we do and it saves a lot of space in your classroom... just a suggestion 😜
I CAN'T wait to start my classroom set up. Yours is looking amazing! Congrats on your subbies, I JUST started my channel and I'm SO excited for this coming year!
You could definitely do a word wall of some sorts on your cabinets above the sink/back counter, and that will just add more color/decoration to your room!
@@puttingthemfirst oh and what about something above the big doors? it looks like there is a little place that im sure the letter cards could fit, depending on the size.
So I actually finished student teaching in the spring in a Kindergarten class that used FUNdations. So the cards that I think your talking about actually are used everyday as part of the lesson for tapping out words and such. So you move them around all the time. So having a pocket holder on the front board for them would be the best I think! 😁 Just so if you didn’t know about some of the FUNdations stuff
Hello from Florida! My name is Catherine and I discovered your channel a couple days ago and I am in love with it. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was 4 years old. I am getting ready to start my A.A. degree in the fall and can't wait to become a teacher. I love watching your videos. You are such an inspiration to me
You could put your "wow works" or student stand outs on the cabinets above the sink... Not sure if your Fundations have to be higher or lower (in child care we had height requirements) so you may be able to put some of those items on those cabinets as well. Good luck. Loving the set up and congrats on your subbers...that's awesome.
We do Making Meaning (I teach 2nd grade) and it's got a lot of pieces. You'll need a pocket chart to display the vocabulary cards somewhere, so just make sure you plan ahead for that! Also, get yourself a lot of post-it notes, and write down all of the discussion questions/etc that go with each story so you can tape them into the book on the correct page. It's a lot easier than holding on to the manual and continually looking down at it through the lesson! I also underline the recommended vocab words (both the ones you're explicitly teaching AND the ones the book recommends you define as you read the story) and write the definition right on the page, again so I don't have to look elsewhere while I'm doing the lesson. It's a lot of work the first year you teach it, but from then on it should be smooth sailing!
I have a home daycare/prek and I rotate books out from storage based on lessons we are learning and overlap by seasons, holidays and themes that can continue for a few months ie spring, bugs, flowers etc. My kids gravitate to books more when switched out and it's less clutter than having all books out. I also aseperate case for all my social and emotional/chapter/"school aged books"( for my friends that come before/after school)
I love your series! Can’t wait till you start teaching! ❤️☺️ And you should put the book in the November bin. The main character is a turkey, so it kinda makes sense :p
You should also get like been bags and some little stools you should use it as a little flexible setting area just to be a little more fun for your students
Love seeing how happy you are as your channel grows! I will graduate in a year with my degree in Elementary Education and am thinking about the idea of documenting my own journey on RU-vid. Seeing how it has helped you is definitely another positive as to why I should.
Ugh I just love you! I’m about to go into my 3rd year of college aiming to become a elementary school teacher. And watching your vlogs make me so happy and so excited!!! Literally obsessed:) and cant wait to watch how your first year as a teacher unfolds! I hope you continue doing like day in the life’s at school and like first day of school things! So excited for you :)
Kylee Moen Thank you so much for your encouragement! I’m certainly hoping to film throughout the year and plan to make a schedule to hold myself accountable 😊
Anything laminated can be hot glued to your windows. And you can use the cabinet doors over your counter space/sink for things too. Just to give you more ideas for space to hang things.
Congratulations on the channel! I’ve been teaching first grade for many years and I’m looking forward to following your journey. I had the same idea as others to put your word wall on the sink cabinets then the students can use the counter to write on. I use the mini pocket charts from Dollar Tree and you only need about 15 because you can but 2 letters on a chart except S and T and W. They need their own. You might want to consider covering your manipulative/stem bins because small pieces like that tend to go missing, especially when you have a sub. And once you’re settled in, you have great window space for plants! Pothos are my favorite. They survive pretty much anything. Best of luck this year!
I have not read all the comments -- but if someone has told you not to say "you guys" just forget about it. You do you. :-) I have been teaching for 20+ years (mostly first grade, but also reading teacher and instructional coach, etc) and even this older and wiser lady is enjoying watching these set up videos. Are you from FL or somewhere south? You say y'all, so that's why I am asking and I thought maybe you might not have thought about WINTER. Something to think about --- the rug in front of the doors -- your students will be very messy in the winter. That rug will become a mess if they are storing all of their winter clothing and such in that closet. Think about that when you pick out the rug -- and place the rug. :-) Congrats on nearly 4K at the time that I am typing this!
I'm 11 years old and I have checked out so many teachers but I have never fell in love with them and subscribe after watching 1 video I just want to let u know keep going and I love your channel and happiness so much and u encourage me do pursue with my dream when I'm older to become a elementary school teacher for kindergarteners, 1st,2nd and 3rd graders 😇😁🤩💌👍
This is making me so anxious to get back to my own classroom! I have two kiddos (1 and 3.5) though and they aren’t super helpful in classroom set up. Love your videos and personality! Also love how open to ideas you are. That will definitely help you be successful in your first year of teaching! You’re awesome! 😂😂
Caitlin Paige SO happy to have you here!! I know that I would be doing a disservice to the students if I presume to know the best of everything my first year. Ain’t no way 😂❤️
I subscribed when you had a 20 or less subscribers and let me tell you - I am not a teacher and I can’t get enough of your videos! I was thinking to myself how does this girl not have more (not realizing it was your first video) and within days ppl have found you. Your personality is genuine and sweet and you are hilarious. I get extremely excited and happy when u upload. You make me want to switch careers. These kiddos and this school are extremely lucky to have you 😀 can’t wait to see more. Ps I also sing when building the courage to face a spider lol
Thank you so much for your kind words! I screenshotted this comment to keep me going on days that I know will feel overwhelming at the time ❤️ also glad I’m not the only one singing!
I teach 2nd grade and we teach Fundations too! There are a lot of posters but they are so helpful when the students are learning that skill. I put mine in my library space! Your cabinets or whiteboards at the back would be perfect! I also have hot glued some of the posters I use daily for teaching/drilling sounds on a hanger so when I need them I can take them right off the wall and bring them to the front of the room where I am teaching. Hope this helps!
Good luck this year babe!! I am going into my second year as a special educator this fall (after I get back from maternity leave) you are going to rock it! 💕
It's so cool to see how fast your channel has grown! Congrats! Loving watching you set up! Hope your year is a great one! 6th year high school teacher here, soon to be k-12 reading specialist! :)
I used the Making Meaning program some and think you will find it really easy to follow. It's a great program especially in your first year it helps walk you step by step through the lessons and even gives you examples of anchor charts to make!
Love your chanel! You are rocking it! I noticed above your monthly bins, is there writing on your cabinet with sharpie?? If you want it gone, try isopropyl alcohol...should get it off!
If you change the word wall to the far left closet doors, you can continue it onto the cabinet doors above the sink if you need more room. It'll also make your anchor charts a little more centered in the room and easier to see.
Just a suggestion for the word wall, they have alphabet vinyl stickers at the target dollar spot so you could use those on the cabinets above your sink so you have more room on the doors☺️
I'm loving watching you setup your classroom. I'll be first year teacher in 1st grade too. I was hoping to be smart like you and setup so I could focus on PD but no such luck😢. I go back July 31 and students August 14th. May I suggest you put your word wall under your white board so it can be more usable for your student? Have a great school year!
Loving your vlogs! I'm in New Zealand and would love to adopt your classroom and send you care packages and goodies for you and your class from New Zealand during the school year? OMG girl and now it's 3.7k subs you rocking it girl!
I would read the confused turkey book in November. There are so many books to use in October but not as many for November. Also I would not display your read alouds in the rack unless you don't mind smudges, wrinkled pages etc. Instead, I would pick from your kids books some the kids might be interested in or the ones that relate to your topics each week. 📚 (recently retired first grade teacher here)
The space above the closet doors would be perfect for a 0 to 100 large number line. Those cabinets above the sink can be used for displaying posters as well. 😃
You will LOVE collaborative classroom! Great curriculum! You may expect lots of books for independent reading and many mentor texts as well depending on which components your district purchased. Where do you teach?
You are a hoot!! The “schmeg” part had me laughing so much. (You know what schmeg actually is, right? 😂) Also, I’m loving the neon tassel earrings. SO cute!!! Congrats on your channel growing so quickly! You are cute and bubbly and fun to watch, so it’s no wonder!
Melissa Kennedy OMG I DID NOT I’M SO EMBARRASSED 🤦🏼♀️ thank you so much for your encouragement- I will consult dictionaries before using slang in the future LOL
First of all so happy I found your channel!! I teacher first grade and I love it !! Good luck this year ! What size are your clear bins you got for your seasonal books? I have been looking for some.
I love your videos so much and if I had to book display shelf I would spray paint it black or white to make it more clean and uniform to the rest of your room.
I would put the Turkey Trick or Treat with Halloween. What size are those sterilite bins? I need some for our Wonders Curriculum. Spiders are not as bad as having roaches, ants, crickets and sometimes little cute lizards visit your classroom! lol
Fundations.... You will need the alphabet cards but as far as the other stuff I used a digital board I got of the internet somewhere. Closets you may want to ask before you cover them with paper because of fire codes
What’s your ceiling like? Could you somehow hang student work from the ceiling? Like from fishing line or something. Then you could just use clothespins to hang them and it’ll be easy to switch work in and out.
I have the Turkey Halloween book too. You can read it in October or November. It’s a great way to start the disguise a turkey project (freebie on TPT).
sorry to be that person... but penguins are Antarctic not arctic... maybe make that bin Polar so it can encompass both north (polar bears etc) and south poles (penguins). Your classroom looks awesome!
My mom has been a 1st grade teacher for many years (30+ yrs) and she has a little sink area. She decorates the cabinets above the sink in science then she stores all her science manipulative in the cabinets. She also does the alphabet along the top of the window. Then then she uses the sentence strips to tape under each letter from the alphabet strip. So the alphabet serves 2 purposes (the alphabet & word wall). Hope this can help you.
