This is my favorite series to film because I love creating a warm, welcoming space for my students. This year is a little different because I have new challenges in regard to the space, and I am teaching 6th grade instead of 3rd! Hang the alphabet because I as a student I sometimes forget what letter is after what when I am really tired. It will also help student that are dislexick

I was so worried when you first showed the overview of your room. I could visualize what I would do in there and was anxiously awaiting to see your space come together. Looks great!

Your room is really starting to come together! I'm liking that it's not looking too cluttered. Definitely think you should put up the letters, especially since they have the cursive on there too. Some kids really love that if they're artsy but I would put them HIGH towards the ceiling so they don't take away from everything else. Can't wait for the next video!!

Speak with your colleagues and principal to ask about what other ways you can support your English Learner. The printed and cursive alphabet is helpful to all students regardless of their language status.

I actually agree. My Sixth graders did not have as strong of dictionary skills as I had hoped and referenced my word wall quite frequently to see the alphabet.

Agree! A good alternative is a math alphabet (I bought a set from tpt). It displays math vocabulary too so you're double dipping! 💚💚

I just randomly thought about this when I was watching! When I taught 6th grade science and math I LOVED doodle notes! I found that 6th graders were really engaged when I had to talk through long "lectures" and they had filling in and coloring to do! Random I know.

To make up for the extra square you’re missing on the monthly project board, you could have the kids vote on whose they think is the best and have a separate “super” board for theirs

My teaching partner last year shared a tip with me about the alphabet! With 6th grade, we don’t always need to hang the entire alphabet...but instead hang specific letters that have multiple sounds! The kids notice it right away and then it becomes a conversation of the sound of a letter vs what “looks” right when spelling. For example, the sound for “t” could use “ed” like in walked. It helped a lot for my EL kids! Hopefully that makes sense! Lol

Maybe a little random, but I just bought a cork board for my basement from hobby lobby and went back to last years set up videos to watch you add burlap around things... and I did it! However next time I’m getting a nice stapler and/or staple gun. The one I used was from the dollar store and was wearing my patience thin!

I completely forgot about Big Lots for BTS. It’s such a blessing to get reimbursed for classroom supplies. I teach at a private school so I don’t get lead money anymore like I did when I was with the district.

I love your room!!!!! I can’t wait to see your classroom tour when it’s done!!!!! You should hang up the alphabet, maybe if you’re able to you could put them on a cabinet or above one of your white boards as like a border. I thought that would be cool:-) I also love your colors for your classroom they go together really well.

I’m pretty sure that font has the t like that. I remember it was in one of the worksheets I printed, and my kindergarteners kept saying the t was upside down😂

You got so much done and yay for a great deal on clear bins. I think the alphabet would be great in a small binder inside sheet covers. A kid can get it out if they need the resource.

Idk if you do or not since I haven't finished the series but if allowed I would use that pretty paper you used for your bulletin boards on the drawers and storage in the back so that it'd look more updated and consistent. I am not a teacher technically but I really enjoy seeing your process.

Looks great. Love the banner in the window. If you do have an EL the alphabet may help but I might wait and see if it works in your room or if would be easier for that student to have one on their desk. A long time ago I had an older student ask for that instead of having the alphabet on the wall.

I’d say yes to the alphabet!! Even though by grade 6 most kids should know the alphabet but I definitely think it would help your EL student and other student with different learning abilities. Also since they also have cursive writing I would keep it! I don’t know if they still teach cursive but it would still be nice to know it.

Hey girl! Your classroom is looking great! I had an idea for your alphabet! Have you ever thought about doing a word wall? Math or Science? Or both. Just place subject based vocabulary under the corresponding letter of the alphabet! Helps students constantly see their new terminology!!

Today was my very first day of organising my very first classroom... And because I watched all of your videos, I felt as if I actually kinda maybe know what I'm doing! Thank you! The less fun part is that the teacher before me never cleared out the classroom. I was her sub occasionally during the year and for the whole last month of school, as she has health issues. So I am trying to sort everything out, but I don't know what's hers and what belongs to the school! Or what paperwork the school meeds to hold on to and what I can toss. I keep finding the most random stuff, you don't want to know. At the same time there is no organising system at all, so I am making it up as I go and trying not to spend money - I simply don't have it! Your videos help me gather ideas though.

I think yes to the alphabet! You had cursive letters on yours and in Michigan they don't spend a lot of time on it and I think it is important! :) Go for it!

If you have a beginner EL, I would definitely hang the alphabet! The letters look the same but we say them so differently, you may find yourself referring to it a lot. It should help the student to have something visual too!

Hey there! I am new to your channel, and have loved watching some of the videos from your classroom set up. I am currently a 5/6th social studies teacher. I have considered making the move down to 3/4th grade and was hoping to hear a little more about your transition from 3 to 6. I would really love to teach literacy or math, or both, which I think is why I mostly want to move down to where that would be a possibility. Any info would be much appreciated.
