Coming from a psychology major..saying you are OCD is not being non-pc. You are calling out a character trait about yourself... You are allowed to do that. We ALL suffer some OCD tendencies... I am sorry people are taking their issues and making you feel guilty for them. You be you and let them be whatever/whoever they are. You can't please all the people all the time. LOVE your channel and loving this series...TFS

I totally agree that it is ok to say that you have OCD tendencies and I have a degree in psychology. It’s sad when people feel like they have to call out other people.

Ideas for helpers: 1-An absent helper who does the job of the absent person (also works when someone is at a pullout when jobs are done). 2- homework helper- I have each day's homework in a drawer and they fill the homework folders and put them in cubbies for me. Love your only changing helpers 3 times a year and the fact that you have several helpers for each job!

Keep the Junie B Jones books!! I swear I was reading those all the way until 8th grade. I was never a huge reader (still aren’t) and those were the most interesting to me as a kid! Sometimes “younger” books are a good thing :)

They’re also great for lower level readers! My students still grabbed those books even for simple character trait analysis and summary practice because they’re shorter books!

New to this channel, and I am a teen, but I just LOVE these back to school videos! I love all of the classroom decor, my classrooms lack of decor. And I feel like decor is a major part in a students learning because a student is more excited to see that room again the next day! Also! Don't take out books that you think may be for younger kids! There are many kids that, believe it or not, just LOVE to re-read old books!💖 Keep being that productive teacher! I'm sure the new students are going to love you!

I think a good idea for the self assessment board is to staple a little envelope or hook a buckets to the board. Then ask the students to write their name, period and fold it up. That way it’s confidential and already organized by class for you.

I’m so jealous of all the teachers that are able to spend multiple days setting up their rooms. We are only allowed in the building 2 days before we start. After that, we have 2 full days of meetings and then the kids start. 😢

I organize. I line up things and match things. I am OCD and I don’t care if you say you are or are acting OCD. You be you. Don’t worry about what anyone else is saying.

You’re room is coming along nicely. Never feel bad for taking time for you. You give yourself 200% during the school year and setting a flexible summer schedule is what you deserve. I did not find offense to you referring to OCD and know that you did not mean it in a degrading term. I understand the perfectionist gene very well and have had to battle with it. Keep up the good work.

I have OCD, and I wasn’t offended by your comments at all!! A lot of the things that you say you’re OCD about are things that I, as someone who has actually been diagnosed, am OCD about. Most of the people picking you apart just need something to fuss over.

Everyone has OCD tendencies even if they aren't actually OCD. So, I completely agree. Like I will go crazy if my books are not organized by Author last name. I actually cringed when she said that she organized them by genre.

6th and 7th grade teacher! as far as the bins go I have kids reading my books more if they are organized in bins and by genre. They don't necessarily know authors they like yet in 6th grade.

xdanceislife13x agree and it does lend itself to teach a mini lesson on genre or have an anchor chart handy as well as a mini anchor chart in their rdg notebook as a reference- 👍🏽🙋🏽‍♀️

You should not have to apologize for what you say on your channel. You keep it real and express your true self and that's why most of us enjoy your channel. It wasn't meant to be offensive, so if people are offended they do have the ability to "scroll on". Do not conform your true self to the world. Your room is looking great! Have a great year!

You’ve mentioned that you want a cute reading bench but maybe you could just use your horizontal cubbies as a bench by adding a cushion seat on top!

I've been teaching 6th grade LA & science for over 13 years. I would not use the bins. Like you said, they are in 6th grade and alphabetizing is a skill they should know and it's great practice for them to have the books filed that way as they are in the library. (at least the fiction books are) Hope you have a great year!

For the set of thirty drawers you could label the students names on each of them and if you have a graded assignment to give them or notes for their parents you can but them in each child’s bin. At the end of the week, or even day, each student could take their papers out and bring them home! Edit: 2:41 is when point to the set of bins I was talking about.

I would have LOVED those chairs as a kid. I am still this way today, but i used to really hate working independently and sitting next to people as a kid. I just feel like that space lets me think more clear, not as many distractions and if i'm doing something wrong or maybe i'm stuck on a question i would feel embarrassed when i noticed those kids around me were flying through it. The high sides and back of that chair would have been a nice comfort zone. I was a very slow learner (i was in what used to be called title 1 classes, not learning disabilities but difficulties or just generally slower learners) and i hated the feeling of being rushed or looked at when problem solving on questions and what have you.

I just got a wall organizer for papers and I’m so excited! I hated how messy my desk got last year with piles of papers. Now I will have a nice place to keep things from staff meetings and PD’s so I can’t lose them!

Yes! Ditch the BINS, Take off the labels! Place the books on the shelves by commonality or genres. Those labeled bins drove me crazy last year.

Create a small folder next to self assessment numbers and use unex cards or popsicle sticks with names

I'm going to be doing self-assessment with post-its in my classroom this year too! I plan on having them answer an exit ticket question on the post-it, write their student number in the corner, and then stick it to the level poster. It's a great formative assessment!

I would suggest keeping your Junie B. books! I teach 8th grade and have them do choice reading and it is astounding how many students read Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It is definitely below grade level, but I would rather them read for pleasure during the time I give them than read something they don’t enjoy. In all, I think your 6th graders will still love to read Junie B. Heck, I think I would still enjoy reading them! 😂😂
