Bravo for making such a change!! This is a heroic gesture you all made . Probably most family members are gone but I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for bring these graves back to life . People should never be forgotten even after they have passed . This is our history and we should be proud of it!!
Great start with clean up but needs to be completed here in Ohio we have a Restoration group in our area and it has been amazing of what they have done
buried headstones can be located with a steel rod. I use this method when I know there should be headstones at certain locations, I find a lot of buried headstones in old cemeteries.
Well you're there now and it has many steps to get the cleaning and trash out. At least before walmart or a sam's club bulldozes a parking lot or some other horrendous thing. Put in a hour and feel how good that you feel recognising death comes to us all. No one gets out alive so someday you will be in some location and no one will care unless more do the same that you are . Good job getting the ball rolling. We need to be observant of things like this as they tend to be forgotten. I went to where my grandmother was buried and it had been bulldozed into big piles of cement and brick and the bones protruding from the earth made me cry... I am a good sized man who wouldn't be known to cry and I lost it over the crass way they were desecrated When I pass, my ashes will be scattered over some mountain or water way as the kids see fit. I'm 72 so am at peace with what ever they decide... Do I have a choice or can I pick door no., two?? I am happy that you do these as others might find too squeamish. Get real as death gets everyone at one point and those who have been communicating with the other side supposedly will find out that, nope, all dirt from where we came from hence my personal feelings get up in my face. Again thank you
You know when I did a college research report on Stonehenge. They did a laser thing that went over the stone and amazingly they found some writings or symbols on it that couldn't be seen with naked eye cuz of erosion etc. So if there's a way to use laser ultraviolet light or what ever improved technology that is available today; it's possible to go over the unreadable graves. It may help with genealogy, ancestry and history aspects of it to be recorded.
John, good question, but I wonder if the Smith Grove Church actually still exists. Robert stated the physical church nearby was torn down years ago. Perhaps the church was closed/dissolved for some reason or the (aging, dwindling?) congregation absorbed into another church. So the question remains, what church, group or individual is paying the yearly property taxes? A check of city or county tax assessor records would reveal that information.
Whom will be responsible for all future clean ups and care and ownership etc..?? Im sure there is many many grave sight/ cemetaries that need the same care and ownerships make sure that it wont look un cared for
Wooow nice clean up guys and whoever also helped cleaning it up...i don tget it why there are so much forgotten cemetery;s in USA...here in netherlands all cemetery's are well kept.there even are people in margraten who adopted ww2 soldiers graves and keep it clean.
I'm proud of everyone whose stepped up to start the prices of getting this cemetery cleared and cleaned. I'm flabbergasted that the church elders and parishioners still aren't doing the right thing by coming in to start and maintain the full and proper maintenance oftheir own church cemetery 😞 Thanks for this update video. BTW is Cody your son?
Thank you, so much Robert, Cody and everyone who had anything to do with the saving of this forgotten cemetery ! Does my heart good to see that These souls will now be remembered .
You are such a rare, genuine, good man. Cody is a good kid. How thoughtful of all of you who have worked on this. I love your heart, Mr. Sidestep. You are a blessing and good for this world. Cody, I am sure, is very proud of you. Your respect for human life is noble.
I hope y’all add the names of those buried there, on Find A Grave. You can search a cemetery by state, county and name. I been a volunteer for over 12 yrs.
Thank you to all who cleaned up this cemetery!❤🇺🇸🇺🇸 please keep us updated on the progress on this cemetery!😍 Just an idea for the unmarked graves , what about putting white wooden crosses And clearing the brush around them.
I would like to extend my congratulations for a good job well done in helping that burial grounds and, cemetery cleaned up through the assistance of your friend who's a writer.
If only you would let people, they would come to you for direction on this clean up. You seem to have the heart and morals needed to restore dignity to the memories of these people. You should think about it. You were right about that removal of the cedar tree...
What about the church that this cemetary belongs to has anyone talked to them about any of this if it does still belong to a church they could at least help clean it off
@@John-bx4mp The church is fully aware and still has done nothing to take care of their own cemetery. It's despicable. I'm sorry of shocked that the locals haven't been able to get the church leaders and parishioners to do the correct and rightful thing; getting their cemetery back to its proper maintenance and care. You'd think that they'd be ashamed and step up by now 🙄
👍 That is so great that people (heros) came together to donate their time and hard work to clean up this once forgotten cemetery. Kudos to those of you that rolled up your sleeves! 👌
Thanks for sharing this admirable story of yours and, am not only proud but , greatful at the same time. More power and prosperity. God bless 😇 you and company. More power.
I'm so impressed that it actually brought tears to my eyes!!!! Bless your hearts....each & every one of you who cared enough. And to you Robert for putting it out there!!! This story made my day.👍🌵🙂
Very nice! Thank you for finding this and inspiring people to take care of this piece of history. You mentioned the three young women who died early in the same year. There was a tornado go thru that are in 1936.
I definitely would have left the cedar and ornamental trees... WoW!! An amazing difference for sure.. Good job to you and others for stepping up for this..
Thank you for your fine work and dedication. Please identify the names of these cemeteries, if possible, to allow us to browse the "residents" on Find a Grave.
Great respect to yourself, you actually care about these cemeteries. I would love to belong to a group that goes around to clean up these wonderful cemeteries.
