Never pull your thread in reverse back through the machine. Cut it and pull it through the needle to avoid pulling thread particulate and dust back through your tensioners.
Thank you for a great demonstration of cleaning and oiling a Singer sewing machine. The only thing I would recommend is to start cleaning from top to bottom. I also cover the bottom area with a cloth while cleaning the top so that I don’t have more dirt fall inside the bottom area of the machine.
just brought this and store said to oil it b4 use since its been sitting made , shipped, stored, shipped,in shop sat for long time. if i do this in the video what els would you say?
Thank you for this excellent guide. The screws were difficult to loosen, but succeeded with the extra leverage of holding the tiny Singer screwdriver with a pair of pliers . Just followed your video along, and now my machine is beautifully clean
hunny! that little silver triangular thingee saved me a big headache yesterday in unscrewing the plate screws! i didn't know what to do! i tried to unscrew them with a regular screwdriver and couldn't untill i saw a youtube video on how to do it! hunny, it changed my life! lol! AND ANOTHER THING..i didn't know you can get big thread spools like that and put them in a container in the back of the machine and thread the machine like normal. i thought those big spools were for sergers only! wow! i need to buy some big spools like that!
Loved the video on mute. Your rare subtitles were excellent, you zoomed in where necessary and I'll put my large spools into a milkshake cup instead of winding onto a spare bobbin to use as a spool. Thankyou very much. M
This video is not showing a complete process of cleaning/ oiling. I've found another video with opening bottom cover and top cover (with the handle) with a lot more places to clean and oil.
2:17 wait, there's not a piece of felt in the center? I got mine second hand and I don't know if it's a piece of felt or just a huge accumulation of dust.
it looks like the felt is supposed to be in the small hole, I've seen someone take the felt out of the hole, and it seems you’re not supposed to take it out, idk i won’t take a risk 😅
There should be a small felt like piece in the hole in the centre where you should put a few drops of machine oil. It doesn't stick out, it's just inside the hole and you should leave it where it is. Anything else is lint that you need to clean up.
yes, its cylindrical, thin and an inch or so long. Its meant to be in the bobbin area to absorb and distribute oil slowly. Remove all lint exras, and put that important "sponge" back in!
You can just skip this video if you don’t like it. From other comments you can see that this is helping some people. Just few is enough for me to share this information. You don’t need to left a useless comment 🙄
