I've watched many videos on how to clean dentures & yours was the best & clearest. But I also wanted to find out how to clean the 2 implants that hold my lower denture in place, or if that is even necessary.
Thanks. Cleaning your implants is indeed necessary, otherwise plaque & calculus (tartar) can build up on the surface and irritate your gums. Remove your denture and use a soft bristle toothbrush to wiggle and vibrate around the entire circumference of the surface of the implants, pointing the bristles at 45 degrees into the base of implants where they meet your gums. Don't brush hard, just let the bristles do the work - you should feel like you are also brushing your gums, but not in an uncomfortable manner. If your gums bleed, that is an indication that the implants have not been clean and the gums are already irritated. Clean implants + no bleeding means healthy gums! If you need more instruction, ask your dentist to demonstrate.

Soaking dentures overnight in vinegar and baking soda can be safe occasionally, but it's best to consult your dentist for personalized advice on frequency and to ensure it won't damage your dentures. Checked it from kriss.
@@rienne89 While vinegar tends to be compatible with most denture materials, it is NOT an effective antimicrobial (doesn’t kill bacteria and yeast) present in the mouth. Adding baking soda will not be helpful and you should be sure to not brush the denture with baking soda because it increase abrasion of the denture surface. Best to follow the recommendations in this video.
Polident and other commercial cleaning solutions are safe if used as directed. All cleaners, including detergents, soaps and dilute bleach solutions should be thoroughly rinsed from the dentures prior to inserting them into your mouth.
You should not use normal denture overnight soaking/disinfecting cleaners with dentures that have metal parts. There are ingredients in those cleansers that can cause corrosion/pitting of the metal surface. There are special cleaners for these type of dentures. Yes, your dentist can clean your denture. They should have special tools/equipment to remove stain and calculus (tartar), including ultrasonic cleaners to remove hard-to-clean areas without damage to the denture surface. If a denture is accidentally damaged/roughened during cleaning, it becomes easier for deposits to form on it.
No need to! I have full dentures for over 50 years. I clean them with denture creme and sometimes with tablets. For 95 % of my 50 years, I slept with my upper dentures! Lower denture about 80%! Never had any problems with my mouth. So, I can say I am an expert with dentures.
