Today we cleaned up our gardens from the jungle they have become, it's looking much better already and it's about the get green!
Make sure you subscribe to follow our daily lives in this farm!
Hey to everyone!!
We are two young adults, Despina 22 and Deivids 23 renovating an old farm house from 1817 in Latvia. Everything in and out of our house has been done by ourselves with no hired help. Soooo far everything is going great and there haven't been any incidents.
DIY is going to apply to nearly everything in our house. Our budget is tight and that has made us appreciate every "ugly" part of this house and turn it into something new and beautiful.
We give new life to things that others would throw away!
In this journey we are not alone! We are starting up our little Farmily and part of it are
3 goats
1 Mom Sheep & 2 Baby Sheep
4 chickens
1 rooster
and 2 geese
Oh yeah and my cat Ivi
Despite our daily problems we are two young people full of joy and happiness, ready to start a new crazy chapter in our life. It wouldn't be fair to keep this fun for us!
that's why we want YOU to be also part of our Farmily!!
Hope you enjoy our video!
We love our very supportive community!!
Thank you so much for the support you are giving us. Every view, like, share, subscribe and financial support means a lot to us. Any support is extremely appreciated!

Since you have some land and animals you might want to consider a chipper shredder and a compost pile to deal with all the material you generate in taking care of your place. You can use the shredded material as mulch around all of your fruit trees and cain fruits. Use the shredded material first as bedding for the animals . They will eat some and inoculate it with waste good for composting. And when the compost is finished use it to side dress all of your plants. I have enjoyed watching your progress on this house and property.

The branches growing from the base of the apple tree is called a sucker. That apple tree might need to cut down since it has a lot of damage. Suckers keep coming year after year on your tree base. You need to be careful around your trees not to damage the base that includes the roots and the bark. The damage is the reason you have the suckers. Fruit trees can get too old. Better to buy a new tree if fruit tree is diseased or too old. You can put straw around your berry bushes to keep the grass down and make some path through them. You can also make a two trellis with three to four wires thru the the bushes to control the vine growth so it is easier to pick berries. Look up trellises for raspberries. You can also move the bushes to make a better layout of the berry patch. Did your strawberries make it through the winter? Don’t be afraid to dig up clumps of plants to divide and make the garden look nice. Dig the cruets out of the raspberry and move. Take enough soil and move, Water the clumps back in unless you are going to get rain. Best of luck. I started my yard today. I am down sizing too much to take care of at 65.

Thank you that a lot of helpful tips. ♥️ The apple tree was giving many apples last year so we will still keep it, its not a problem that it has no fruit, we can get so many apples from neighbours that we could never eat all of them. But we want the tree to look nice and be healthy. Hopefully it is okey as it was a big branch to remove. About the raspberries, I was thinking about saw dust for underlay but the new raspberries need to come out so will they also not get killed same as the weeds 🤔

You have to get all dead branches out of there also thin them and weed it so your fruit will grow better . Its alot of work but it is worth it .

Don't be too tidy as the piles of old wood & vegetation are great for small mammals, amphibians, insects and other such stuff. Cheers.... 👍

Don't worry it's so much we could never clean it up all, there is so much left on the ground, we let it all rot away when the new grass comes out! We only vlwaned up the bigger piles as they would be a hustle to cut the new grass around. ♥️😊

Your neighbor is right about your trees . You have to cut off the extra branches and top your trees to make them grow better then your fruit trees you need a tree paint to protect them from insects from eating your fruit . Just paint the bottom of the truck of your trees that's what I did and it work to .

Editing skills are even more better :O Its' a pleasure to watch, and satisfying to see all those chores being taken care of now that it's spring...at 11 degrees >.< (ahhh I couldn't do it - it's 16 degrees here and I shiver!) I didn't know goats eat branches...

Your animals all look in great condition, great neighbours are a perfect aid to you when you are starting out. Sometimes old varieties that have settled in well have advantages over just clearing out the old and planting with fresh new stock. Perhaps filling in gaps with new things on a step by step basis until you have found the pattern to the garden stock. Raspberries are wonderful when in season, but they do need the right treatment. The old canes need to be taken out as you were doing, hard work, but it is the only way to success. Blackcurrants as well, you made a great purchase with that farm, two of my favourites growing with the aid of your land husbandry.

Good you have some expert help on the trees. However I suggest you read up on it yourself properly if you havent by now. There is more to it than just knowing wich to cut but also how to cut branches without harming trees. :) Good job guys. :)
