Great video! As a former chimney sweep of about 6 years, please allow me to offer some constructive criticism. To save some time and effort, you could have left the pipe attached until after as you risk tearing or knocking the bag off if the rods go down to far. Plus the rods may even go past the bend to the top of the stove. Then remove the pipe and continue to vacuum. It's good you have a cap (spark arrestor) to keep out rain, however it offers little to no protection against birds, bats or even squirrels from getting down. There are better caps on the market with a screen. Code is 3 screws in the connections, you may have 3 but the video kind of only shows 2. FYI: you may also think about cleaning out your dryer vents at the same time just to keep that on a schedule too. There are more than 10,000 dryer vent fires yearly. I meant no offense by saying these things as you did do a good job, just trying to help. Have a nice burning season. Oh also, if you happen to scratch the slate hearth, a little wd-40 rubbed in may hide them.

I can hear the brush getting to the end of the chimney so I’ve had good luck not ripping the bag. There are also three screws in all the connections, I didn’t know there was a code for that. Thanks for the knowledge!

I spent just over $6600 by the time it was done which included a 20" firebox and a 12 hour burn time. It heats double what the old one did with half as much wood. It's the reburn system that makes it so efficient.

When I used to have a log burner and it came time to clean the flue, chimney and cap, I cut the last 18-20" of an old chimney brush that had seen years of use and fitted the shaft into a 7.2v cordless drill. That arrangement worked really well on what you're doing @ 5:02 and 7:10.

Nice job. I've been heating with wood for over 30 years. The end of my stove pipe is close to the floor, so I made a an attachment for the end of the pipe to collect the soot - a larger pipe connected by a increaser with a cap on the larger pipe so no bag, no possibility of ripping. You mentioned rain coming, I never sweep unless the skies are clear because I've seen lightning when there isn't rain so I'm thinking being up on the roof with that 18 foot steel cleaning handle makes you into a lightning rod. After one cleaning I was pretty freaked by how much black soot I coughed and sneezed out and it didn't seem like there was much in the air, so now I always wear a mask.

Fine job on the chimney. I would highly recommend you get a proper ladder for getting on roofs. As a 40 year carpenter, I have seen a fair amount of accidents caused by faulty or too short a ladder for the job. It should extend 2 ft above the roof for ease of getting back onto it. Sometimes you only get one chance to be wrong. Stay safe. Cheers from Canada.

Great video and a good reminder to all that heat with wood to clean their chimneys. You have a beautiful property as well! One tip that can help when it gets colder out; after you prep the fire with paper and kindling, roll one piece of newspaper into a tube / stick shape, light it and hold it under / in the opening for the chimney for 10-15 seconds. Then use that paper to light the paper and kindling under the wood. This will force air up the chimney rather than having it push smoke out into the room. Keep up the great work and videos!

Nice video, thanks. When I was a kid our furnace was in the basement. You went down and opened up the door and the door on the bottom. You got the crank, which looks like a crank to start an old fashioned car or tractor and put it on the bottom square peg. You shook it up and down and it shook the grate so stuff would fall down to the bottom you could shovel out. You closed the door and put the crank away. Then you could load up wood, coal or both. It heated up the entire house. If you built a fire, you could go down about 9pm and add more and it would be good until the next morning. Here's a tip. You cut logs. You take a lot and split it in four pieces to burn. Now take one of those four pieces and split it into three or four "sticks". Do that with the rest of the log. We had a 5 gallon bucket in the basement. We would put those sticks in the bucket. When we had leftover french fry oil, for example, we'd take it down and put it in that bucket. so the bottom 2 or 3 inches would soak up that oil. Then we'd take about 4 sticks and put them in the furnace and add more logs. We'd light those sticks and they'd take off fast burning away. We had a nice hot fire without using paper or charcoal lighter. (I talk a lot). Also, from your video, I saw those flowers. Pinch off all those flower heads and let them dry. Grab a long envelope and put all those seeds in it. Then come next spring you can dig around there and plant dozens more to grow and fill in.
