I started working with computers in 1969. I got to see the history in the first person. I worked on many different types of computers from many manufacturers. From IBM mainframes to micro computers. Even the "big boys" ship out "mistakes". I've subscribed to your channel to support you in your endeavor to learn and thrive. You are an amazing young woman that will be successful in life. Keep up the great RU-vids!
Did you work on I think IBM with the ball with all the alphabet letters, numbers, & other characters? Or a... 82 column card machine? Thank you or the tape (reel to reel) drive?
@@j.lietka9406 All the above, plus paper tape, cassette (digital), even the 96 column IBM System 36 card. Not to mention a NCR 299 accounting machine that used a 3' x 4' white card with markers like in a test card.
The problem isn't the problem! The problem is how they handle the problem. Once the problem is handled It's not a problem. I'm glad you got it worked out!
I am 47 years old from Denmark, i have been working with computers for most of my life one way or another, and know how hard it can be to locate where a problem is. Is it software or hardware, or a combination, and so on. Even i have 3-4 computers and can borrow parts from another machine, it can be hard to troubleshoot. So for you to get a prebuild PC that cost alot of money, and you run into problems like this, it must have been super frustrating.. :S Happy you now have a working pc and got everything sorted. Gz on the PC! PS. like others said, you are amazing, good looking, hard working! and learn new things so fast. Hope all the best for you!!
She admits to not being tech savvy enough, otherwise I'm sure she would've done that in the first place. Someone in her position shouldn't have to got through such a situation from a company offering a turn-key solution.
I can understand why people just want to buy a system and have a working machine out of the box. The amount of hardware out there can be a little staggering. Then you have to filter that through all the noise us nerds make; "Buy Intel! No buy AMD! You should use this case! No, that case is terrible! Mount the fans this way! No, that's dumb you should mount them This Other Way!" Add to that you have Nvidia's wonky GPU power cable that if not installed perfectly will meltdown your expensive GPU and "oops, that's your fault buddy" and now you're sending your expensive GPU to NorthridgeFix so he can add it to his box of dead GPU's that need repair. For a lot of us that are comfortable with PC hardware, none of this is an issue. I enjoy component selection because that abundance of different hardware means I can get exactly the look and performance I want. Part selection, thermal management, cable routing....these are all things I don't mind spending a lot of time agonizing over, but I also have a lot of free time to do so.
Clarification... "usually sending out a refurbished unit". To quote Starforge in the email, they write "new" unit. Damn Samantha that was tough. You explained it well and kept an even temper and tone throughout which is an achievement in itself!
Hi Sam. As someone who owns two of the higher-end Starforge systems myself, I've been looking forward to seeing this update, so thank you for posting it. I'm happy to hear that, even though it was a frustrating journey for you, in the end it worked out. I have had no hardware issues with either of my systems (with the exception of a dumb Windows Update thing on one of them, which I investigated and fixed and sent them the info on what I did to fix it so that they were aware), and all of my interactions with SF support have been positive, but I'm a computer guy by trade, so I speak the "language". As such, it was very interesting to hear your perspective. Thanks again.
Thank you to have shared the update, I built by myself only a PC so far so I don't want to give any major advices, was just very satisfying to do. Something you can do once every year is to clean the case and the components from the dust, pay attention to not let the fan spin if blowed with air.
I love the "The Wind in the Willows" Mr. Toad on a motorcycle. My mother has a copy from the early 60's and it survived her childhood house fire. I've read it twice, once when I was a teen and about ten years later.
working with a PC, I can assure you that sometimes it doesn't even matter if it's used or new, computer components of a good level can work for 10-15 years under high loads, even if your computer has been restored, it doesn't mean anything, it will be in any case work very well!)
Sam for the amount of money you spent on that computer and how little use you got before the original one died, what they sent you is 100% unacceptable. That is absolutely refurbished. If it was me, that would be going right back for a full refund! Unbelievable. I can only imagine how horrible of an experience like this would feel having paid thousands of dollars for this!
Samantha, good for you! Glad it worked out. I've had pretty good luck with computers since 1984 with a couple of Macs and mostly PCs but there are horror stories on most brands from time to time. You hit a bad streak but toughed it out! Congrats!
I hope you feel you can finally move on and enjoy it Sam. I really look forward to the future videos you produce, oh and your looking fantastic Sam😊. Your outings and adventures look to be doing wonders for your well being.
This has to be refurbished. A return that was fixed, something like that. You're right, the lack of plastic on the glass, dents, and dust are a dead give away. Damn these companies. The last few computers I've ordered come directly from the manufacturer, not a reseller, and I always have to wait for them to build it new. I've gone through Origin for the last 5 computers I've bought, and have no regrets.
I'm glad we saw your video. Our company was going to place an order with them for 22 computers. We will be looking elsewhere now. They should be sending you a NEW computer for the headache you have had!. Thanks for the information.
Hi Sam I am so happy for you that it is finally fixed, being they know you have a YT channel they to want to stay on the up & up with you. May i say you are really looking good as always, so this must be a big load off of your mind having your PC done. now time to put out some more vids. You take care Sam pretty Sam.🤟👍
I'm glad your (computer) whole once again! When Lena got home from her "speeding" adventure, I trust she received a good scolding. Finally, in the sprite of being well rounded, might I suggest an adventure or project completion with your mother, i.e. something the two of you have in common or perhaps something out of your comfort zone ...May is Mother's Day/month! Best wishes and happy adventures.
As a small Computer Dealer in Germany, I would assume that it is a Demonstration Device or a refurbished one and defenitly not a brand new Computer. Also I wouldn't have connected the Computer to the Power until I 1. had clarified whether it was really the right Computer and 2. until I had found the Part that was causing the rattling Noise. Such incidents remind me of one of my oldest and longest-standing Customers. She was looking for a Dealer to buy her first Computer. She was originally a Mathematician who grew up in really big Computer Centers and also a good Colleague of my Father on the Board of his Professional Association. She and her Sister-in-Law drove over 200 KM to visit me and learn about Computers and the Programs for their Needs. Right at the Beginning she explained to me that, based on her previous Experiences, she considered Computer Dealers to be the Horse Deceivers of the 20th Century. She was amazed that I didn't say no but was able to give many Examples in which I assisted fooled Customers as an Expert even at Court.
it sounds like starforge is a company that has their technical side sorted out and provides quality products, as far as they can control the process. However it seems that incoming quality inspection on outsourced components is lacking and the administrative side along with customer service needs a lot of training and improvement to create smoother communication between customer, tech support and the factory floor that makes and services the units. In the end all that mattes is how you feel about the process and it sounds like you are satisfied with the outcome and have a working unit now. cool!
Sam, I'm so glad you settled the PC fiasco. And WOW! You look fantastic, fit, and strong. I’m also happy that your road trip was successful and that you got home safe. -Steve
I'm assuming that WIFI is to connect to house router and if so and the signal level is low (the antennas aren't in the best position), you may want to get coax cables and place the antennas higher up. Technically you'll lose some signal from the cables but the gain from being away from the floor and the grounded metal casing should faaar outweight the losses. Also I don't remember what the original fault was but it's likely they just diagnosed and replaced the part (maybe even the motherboard) and just ran the thing in their support area to do a "burn-in" test for a few days to be sure all was good. Be sure to regularly clear any dust away from the ducts and from the internal fans on the CPU and Power Supply and graphics card. Enjoy your videos Samantha.
Based on what you kept hearing, there sounds like at least one lose something, likely a screw, that is somewhere. The computer will run though a later movement of the machine, cleaning or whatever, could jar the component and move it. If it's metal and makes contact with live power and grounds it, that could kill other components. Probably a good idea to unplug everything and rotate (a friend may be helpful, but you look more that strong enough) the computer and listen for movement and dinging. The screw or whatever may fall out on its own, but it could be trapped behind the MB or GPU. It was surprising that noise happened when inserting a video cable, but that may be just coincidence. Good luck with the new machine. I hope it holds up!
Never buying from StarForge. What a clown college. "You've had it for too long." ...with a faulty part from the factory. Then promising to ship a new one back to you and clearly receiving either a scratch and dent, refurb, or your original machine but with extra dents in it. If they wanted to make it right, they wouldn't have made you pay for shipping it back to them the first time. All the time without the machine, all the headache of dealing with back and forth, and the fact that they weren't proactive with the faulty part on a premium product. The fact that you had to chase them repeatedly is unacceptable. I'm assuming you've not received a partial refund, whether they overnighted parts to you or not. Glad you've got a working system again, but oof, what a terrible experience.
The problem wasn't the cable, per se, 4090 video cards were made with a brand new power adaptor and they are prone to short out and cause the plug to melt or worse, so they used an aftermarket plug that is supposed to solve the problem, but lo and behold the aftermarket cable which utilises a 90 degree connector is also faulty and was under recall, however i douby that caused any intermittant instability, also the CPU you have is the 14900 i am assuming and it is under investigation for instability as many people have them failing due to the specs being pushed to far and it consuming way to much power, there are adjustments one can make in the bios to change it's power usage but a lay person isn't going to understand or know any of that. Still that would mostly result in crashing not a failure to power on, if i had to guess i would say it was a motherboard or power supply problem, now as to the top screen you or they probably did that packaging up the computer again and again forcing in that expanding foam, which no doubt put considerable stress on such a flimsy piece of tin. All in all i cringed heavily watching this, it's to bad you didn't have someone knowledgable to help you fgrom the start, could of saved you several thousand dollars and provided you with a capable machine for what you need.
Dealing with most customer supports is frustrating. If they were just going to fix yours and send it back, they could have just said that. Its a shame some of these reps think everyone is not very smart. At least at the end, youre satisfied which is great!
Is the GPU an RTX 4090? Nvidia switched to the new 12 volt high power standard this generation and it has caused many issues. Because of how few pins there are transferring power to the GPU, when the cable isn't seated absolutely 100% perfectly, it builds up a lot of resistance and therefore heat. It is also not very hard to not plug it in fully. There are still many posts I've seen across social media and Reddit about the connectors melting and damaging the system or even catching on fire, almost 1.5 years after the launch of the 4090. Aftermarket adapters have higher failure rates, but even the official Nvidia cables are pretty easy to mess up.
You got a refurbished or a demo unit, almost any computer tech worth his salt can tell how long the it has run Can't remember how it's done but you can tell from the bios Starforge, sounds like a flyby night company
Terrible company that need so many email and taking so long time. This would never happend in Norway since we have a strong buyer protection. But with your video now I hope a lot of people will get to know what a terrible company they are so never anyone will buy from them anymore.
You shoulda accepted the new unit they offered. Youll always have this doubt in your mind now. The company clearly misrepresented their intentions by sending you a refurb. Thats not good business.
Damn Starforge you guys are better than that cmon. For the money she spent, she should of had a new pc sent no questions asked. Not some refurbished shit.
It is common that something is bent/scratched thru transport. The company i bought my PC from did not allow delivery, i hadd to go there to pickup the computer. It is common that the GPU slot is broken due to those heavy GPU's they make nowdays. I was holding my breath when you tried to pull that plastic away protecting "weight" under the GPU 😱 Could have been worse, there is noway to avoid 100% dent's/screatches when the transport don't care as mutch about the packages as the Company that built the pc do. *If you want to get it home undamaged i would recommend to go pickup it yourself.
That spray foam bags, are set liquid, then hardened around deliciated components, such as the Video Card connector. Be careful when removing the hardened foam and what it is attached to.
didnt see the first video, but starforge is owned and managed by people that I wouldn't do thousands of dollars of business with. $50 maybe. building your own isn't a hard thing these days, but some people aren't comfortable with that and that's fine. if you want a prebuilt i would use avadirect, no nonsense company. probably less expensive as well, starforge charges more than most companies would per the parts.
I can very much relate to this video. I built a recording studio and already had all the equipment from a previous studio I operated out of for 10 or 12 years. At the beginning of the studio build, I was robbed. All the equipment gone. The insurance company gave me a deadline on replacing the studio equipment. So I had to purchase all of it even though it would be 2-4 years before I would be able to install it. (I work totally by myself and the construction goes very slowly as a result) Now the studio building is complete and I am installing the equipment, which now will not operate correctly because the computer software is now obsolete. (The studio equipment operates mainly in The Cloud) I'm right in the middle of negotiating with the company for some sort of discount or complimentary pricing on the new software I will have to purchase to make the system run correctly. I've already made upgrades to the computer hardware and cabling at my expense. It is a very good company with fantastic tech support, but sometimes communicating the exact situation is difficult at best. You have to do exactly what you did, stick with it, follow through with emails, and don't throw up your hands. I'm glad you got it resolved and that it is working well for your production of videos which we all get to enjoy!
sometimes it is better that they go over the computer you sent back and then there is a 1 on 1 with that computer and it did not just go down an assembly line
That sounds like a nightmare! You probably should've built your own. It's a lot easier than you think. I don't know a lot about computers and I built mine following a RU-vid video. Also, it wouldn't have cost nearly as much.
Even with experience with PC building and education in this direction, you can have very similar problems. From software problems to random difficult to reproduce electrical problems. I had problems under load solved by reinstalling CPU & RAM. All tests passed correctly for hours but once a week the system rebooted. When you buy it from a company you have the possibility of technical support. When assembling a PC yourself, you are left with different components and have to figure out what is causing the problem yourself.
Try building it yourself for the next one. Case + PSU + Motherboard + Graphics + Processor + Cooler + Memory + Windows + SSD's (drives). Sounds scary but you're 100% capable. You'll do a better job of it too. Probably be in 10 years time now. When that time comes, just ask some of your 2M subs to guide you :)
I wish I could have built you a PC, but this one should do well now that it's working properly. All that matters is it works and you can edit some more great videos
Sam, I'm a 53yo computer engineer; the computer you have is most probably a computer built by a smaller company, constructed by computer specialists. This type of computer is easyly up-gradable, flexible in configuration and can be easily expanded in storage or memory. They are hand built, one by one; this is not a factory, automated production. As this is a built computer they will have checked your computer; found what was wrong, replaced the needed parts and made it work again, like a new one. Computers are made from many parts; it is normal to replace the broken part, not more. It is like bringing your car back and asking for a new one because of a flat tire. *Repairing a built computer is very normal*. If you buy a computer from HP, IBM etc, these are built in a factory; but hard to repair or expand.
What SI (System Integrator) did you get this from? Their QC is terrible if they sent you a "new" PC that was damaged and dusty right out of the box. Edit: I just saw who the SI was that you bought this from, I'm sorry you had to go through that. I have been working in computers for about 20 years or so of my life, if you need any help in the future you can reach out of you would like and i can help troubleshoot any issues you may have.
Yup, would not keep that thing if you paid price for a new computer originally. The dust is a dead giveway. Maybe file a complaint with the cc company to give a strong warning.
Destiné à quel usage cet ordinateur ??? (si c'est pour de la bureautique, totalement inadapté!) Il n'y a pas de vendeur spécialisé informatique à proximité ? je n'ai pas de problème en France !!!! Bon courage est bon soleil !
honestly you should be getting a fresh pc on top of the pc you already got, if i was in charge i would just send you another one and another tier up and a gift card or something theres an opportunity for them to shine in your video i hope they come through for you!!!!!
I would imagine it has Windows 11 I would get Windows 11 operation systems manual from Amazon or Wally world it made operating a gaming computer much better for me 💥💥
hi from the UK. this is unacceptable, good to buy a sub standard item if you pay substandard price... i have emailed them direct stating this is not good exposure for them... you should be a walking talking advert for them and should give it you for free!!
What kind of spec your PC has now? I would always reccomend build your own PC , its easy , fun and simple if you follow a guide or have someone with experience. I get people do not to want to hassle with that , but from what i can see you had more hassle with Starforge system who are backed by "persona reactor & famos skin streamers" then learn how to build one yourslef , you would have proly had better parts and turned out cheaper.
Good morning Samantha I would send the whole thing back, ask for my money /refund, and look for a better /different company. I always do so many reviews, overlook the pros from the cons. I'm sorry you had to good they all that
