My friends apartment was infested with roaches, so I helped him clean out everything, and one day he sat down to use his PS4 and found out it wouldn’t turn on. So I came over to take it apart and it was infested and disgusting, but this PS3, this, takes the cake

You know it's gonna be a bad day when you smell that distinct sweet, almost fermented smell comming from your console... It took me a whole day cleaning the bathroom afterwards. Absolutely disgusting.

@@julianaguirre3264 same here damn roaches. I unplug my consoles and bag them after I'm done playing them to prevent dust and bugs from going into my consoles. I started to do that way before we started having roaches. I also my game cartridges and controllers.

I always find your cleaning videos quite interesting to watch no matter how dirty the consoles look. As for the PS3 itself that a nice find dude, i always loved the first gen PS3 that had PS2 backwards compatibility but those are a bit hard to find out there except for Ebay or Amazon.

Very true. However, even when you find one, it is hard to keep it working (as they decided to use a solder that warps under long playsessions).

Vigerp That's true. Some first gen consoles are hard to maintain in order to prolong their usage. Lucky the other ones are bit much easier to fix but it suffers a lot from the infamous YLOD "Yellow light of death" at one point

when I turn on my ps3 lines pop up on my screen ive changed HDMI tried a different tv i don't know what to do ive even taken it apart and cleaned it

It sounds to me like there is something wrong with either the motherboard or the graphics chip (CPU). This could be caused by overheating or a solder point has cracked over time. However, it is difficult to tell just from a description. Unfortunately, whatever is causing the problem, is something that would need to be looked at by a professional. :(

@@Vigerp unless its turning off on its own then there is no need to mess with the CPU. Most of the time a good cleaning with IPA in a ultra sonic or you could use an unused tooth brush and 99.99% alcohol

@@will1867 I agree. Messing with the CPU is always the last course of action, but diagnosing the issue from a description is always difficult. I would still suggest to bring the console to a repair professional for further diagnosis and repair.

Great job on cleaning it. Only thing I would've done differently is sanding down the corrosion/rust on the heat shield and giving it a putting on a coat or primer. Kudos for even wanting to work on it though. I would've just burned it and thrown it away lol

I found an old ps3 of mine, that had exchanged hands a dozen times in the last ten years. I know it needs cleaned, but I also know that the last people who owned it had cockroaches, bed bugs and the general mess affiliated with too many (non-house broken animals). It's a miracle that it works at all. I'm terrified to clean it, and the exterior wear indicates the internals are going to be worse than the slim you clean in this video. (You've a much stronger fortitude than I..)

I’m kinda worried in my house one of my rooms has an ant problem and that’s my gaming room with my PS3 I can’t move it anywhere else cause my family won’t let me I just hope if ants went into my PS3 it wouldn’t effect it.

That must have been in a flood. I've opened my PS3 recently to change the battery and it looks pristine inside. I probably would have used an airgun outside to get rid of the bulk. :)

You don't need those tools. Just use a normal screw driver & a thin blade for the Hex screw. EASY AF

I remember my PS3 slim got to that point and I had to throw it away. Never put a PS3 slim near a kitchen area you will have roaches living in there for sure. I am a bit paranoid about my PS5 since I saw a few little ones crawling on the side plus a baby spider I have to get this room fumigated again.

Jesus man that poor PS3 ;'( - sorry you had to deal with that man. The owner should've invested in some boric acid if he was having an issue with roaches. Make a circle of boric acid around the PS3 put some on it and bam. No roaches. It's extreme but roaches won't get inside electronics with boric acid on them or protecting them. It only takes a sprinkle of acid to get on a roach for it to kill them all.

My Playstation 3 slim is currently on life support, i dont know when this started happening but everytime i turn it on it turns on for about 3-5 seconds and then it turns off with the standby light not lighting up, i have some heavy books laying on top of it and it works like nothing happened, is it a problem with the power supply or is it the CPU?

Yeah..... I'm just gonna take out the power supply and blow mine out lol no way I'm doing all of that id never get it back together and working. Guess I'll take my chances with the thermal paste until I can pay for a proper touch up. My ps3 hasn't been used all that much anyway

Hmmm yummy roach residue...... N0T!..... Pardon the suggestive comment but when I open up and clean electronics I have a small vacumn I use with a dust brush on hose end to suck up the grossness as I progress in disassembly. I use a small paint brush to loosen up some easily reached areas in conjunction with vac brush. I do this to remove as much large clusters of goodness and dust as I disassemble so that crap is mostly gone when opening more delicate parts up from inside..... Optical drives, pow. Supp., MB fans and you know...the stuff that needs gentler handling. In a cockroach infested or similarly eeeeew! situations Id likely want a hepa filter vacuum or use reg. vac. outside maybe..... No one wants fecal dust in the wind.... am I right?😆 Before I break out the alcohol and wipe stuff or water bath in my opinion vac attack first is best.
