When you plant with a spreader or a back pack spreader then harrow them in you have nothing more than a controlled spillage. You can't control seed depth by harrowing then. Sunflowers are somewhat sensitive to planting depth. Get you either a drill or row planters and it will do a much better job at a uniform stand. I did and have much better result year in and out.
“Controlled spillage” is my new favorite term. Plan is to cultipack this year to help with germination. Purchasing a seeder or a drill is not an option. We can rent one from the co-op but our tractor doesn’t have rear hydraulics at the moment and coordinating and nailing down one specific day for the rental can be tough with rain/work schedule. But agreed, in a perfect world they would be drilled
I honestly dont know. We use to turn plow it deep, then disc and that didnt help. I think the soil is so full of seed it does not matter how you break it, they are coming back. I was out yesterday, will do another update soon. D@mn Deer .....
I know you are going to do an update but how did your imox mixture seem to do? Getting ready to spray mine and wondering on the mixture. I have about a half to 3/4 acre of them to spray...
I was out there yesterday and the clethodim was clearly hard at work but there was not much sign of the IMOX on the broadleaf‘s yet. The Imaza group of herbicides is a much slower acting group but provides a much deeper systemic kill. Pretty sure the label says 4oz per acre is the max. Would need about 30 gallons of solution I would think
@@Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors Did the 4 oz/acre rate of IMOX work adequately? I see that the Beyond label shows 4-6 oz per acre for use with Clearfield Sunflowers. However the IMOX label shows 64-128 oz/acre for control of various weeds. Thank you for your videos.
@@marclambert2936 What you saw in the video gave decent results. Not perfect, but it really knocked back most the weeds. Your IMOX rate seems really high. Remember, IMOX is not labeled for field use on sunflowers, I am going off label. The rate you mentioned is for use in bodies of water most likely. The % A.I in IMOX is the same as BEYOND, so I follow the BEYOND label for sunflower rates.
