Very informative video which will be very useful to a lot of people within our industry, the first one could be down to the engineering judgement of the individual, personally I would AR it, on the day of your test the readings are below 10 ppm CO, so you are checking for an ID situation, so already the potential is there for a future issue, if something goes wrong with combustion, a regulator fails, with the wind in the right direction then potential is there for risk to life and property. I’ve been in the industry over 43 years as an engineer, manager, assessor, training then finishing my years off as an engineer. Engineers are always going to differ in their opinions, different organisations have differing procedures and views on classifications, this doesn’t help the industry, At the end of the day if anything did happen and you ended up with a prosecution Barrister questioning your actions, who will have done their research and had ‘experts’ advising them, could your actions have covered the requirements of the industry and did you do enough to advise and protect the casualties involved, I would still go with AR specifically on the grounds your checking for the ID situation initially with your room sweep, therefore you are already looking at potential. People may disagree but I’ve always been a little twitchy around flues close to openings into properties where re entry is possible, previous experiences have opened my eyes to the risks working in this industry.

Alright Derek , I've looked at the meter box situation, now I would not AR that one simply because 2.8 is specifically referring to a situation where there is a pathway for gas to enter a property , so a semi concealed meter box in a wall ,so if you had a damaged box or no sleeve etc you could get a pathway for gas to enter the property . A sunken meter box has no pathway to inside the premises so if gas was escaping it's going straight to atmosphere. If the meter was corroded due to the water ingress then I would class AR but until then just a NCS for me . Keep up the good work as you have great content .

Mad that the first one is ncs Literally depends on what way the wind is blowing as to if it’s ID or not That’s why I AR that issue

Flue too close to an openable window is AR. For all you know wind blows a gale into window and then its picking up CO. Its ID then, so therefore there is A Risk as something MAY happen.

I think there’s a degree of judgement in this scenario, depending on how far under 300mm the clearance is. If I saw one that close to a window I’d be ARing it too.

Thank you Mr Derek. Can you please make a video on the scope of commercial and domestic installations. I was trying to get some advice on gas safe Facebook page regarding the installation of a boiler in a mosque. Some engineers said I am not allowed to install it as the building is not a dwelling. I replied by arguing the it is the installation volume that determines the scope of the installation ( 0.035m3). Thanks

With regard to the flue, years ago 2 faults in the same category would be upgraded. Is that still the case? If so that installation would be upgraded to AR due to being too close to the openable window and also within 150 of the opening to the fabric of the building ie, the window frame itself
@tomkatgastraining
@tomkatgastraining 2 года назад
The 150 measurements is not in any regs or standards I have ever read
@rickyvanniekerk771
@rickyvanniekerk771 2 года назад
@@tomkatgastraining it definitely used to be there. Whether it still is I don’t know. will be in the section where you have the diagram of a building and all the different flue terminations. Possibly under flue terminations next to an opening with an additional note * the flue should not terminate within 150mm of an opening into the building fabric formed for the purpose of accommodating a built in element such as a widow or door frame.. something like that….

Hi Derek, do you have a video on online inspection and what's involved , I understand its all about unsafe situations but with the requirement of microphone and speakers is there anything more to it . Really just to prepare Or is the microphone just to communicate about how your doing ect

Hello, not an argument but the picture at the start I would class as "at risk " the weather on that day would influence the results ,if that was a manufacturer that allowed 350ppm there could easily be conditionswhere the products enter the room.

@@tomkatgastraining but it’s openable. You’ve done a sweep test around the window and not picked anything up but if the wind changes it could do in future. I’d say that meets the definition you give for AR - at risk of becoming immediately dangerous in future.
@tomkatgastraining
@tomkatgastraining 2 года назад
@@edmetcalfe8974 but what if the window is never opened also you can get poc coming into a window when the flue is 300 mm away and would you ID a cooker because the burner could get food on it and make it incomplete.

I disagree with the meter box. That regulation is regarding a pathway to the property via a damaged box. A broken lid on an external box does not offer a pathway in to the property at all.
@tomkatgastraining

But puts the meter under water so becomes AR
