In June 2021, the Pine Belt Jeep Club hit Moab, Utah. The most fun and equally stressful trail that we hit was definitely Cliffhanger. The trail itself is super fun and technical. However, once you add in amazing views and and cliffside Jeep riding, it transforms it into a once in a lifetime experience. This trail is definitely doable in a small Jeep on 35s but you will definitely want to be locked front and rear.
My Jeep was running really bad when we were on this trail and after a few months of poking around once I made it back home, I believe the issue was a torn gasket under the throttle body. It was well over 100 degrees the day we rode this trail and we were at a much higher elevation than the Jeep normally sees down on the Gulf Coast, so I am assuming all of that played a part as well.
Enjoy this UNCUT version of our trip through Cliffhanger. This video shows most of the obstacles on the trail, but we did turn around a little bit before the end of the trail.

with so many people running 4 dr jeeps, it's nice to see some 2dr, manual transmissions on the trail.. nice driving

Thank you. I agree that there are too many automatics on the trail now days. Can't beat the control of a manual. I love watching the automatics try to "bump it" with their throttle delay lol

My LJ is getting swapped to tons this week but this makes me want to buy another jeep and do it with a modest lift and tires! Kinda build a SOLID 35 tire jeep like this and send it where no one dares! See how much lines and driver can make a rig!

Haha yup! I had a KP60 and shaved 14b for this Jeep but sold it for the same reasons. I have a CJ on tons and decided that I didn’t need my TJ to be that. There is a lot to be said for maneuverability and weight. I ended up going JK44s on it instead and went to a 37s. I love this little Jeep

You need to get that heat out from under that hood. My 2000 TJ would boog down like that. I put a cold air intake and that stop it from stalling out. But what also help a ton was a poision spider vented hood. Getting the heat out solved my issues. I have a 2000 TJ Sahara, running 488 gears with Aussie lockers front and rear. Also running 35" Cooper Discoverer SST PRO 35x12.5. tires. 35's are great helps keep the center of gravity down. Also have headers and cat back exhaust. Do you have quick disconnects on the front axle? I'm running RC long arm 4.5" lift with the Metalcloak Lock and Load control arm. And 4.5" Rock Krawler triple rate coil springs with the front quick disconnects. What gears are you running? I really enjoyed the video. Like someone in the comments mentioned, I love seeing a TJ taking on those obstacles with those 4 Drs. Take care. By the way the 2.5 is nice but the 4.0 rocks. The 4.0 has so much low end torque.

Thanks! More power is coming before too long in the TJ without question. It works at the parks we run in the southeast, but those super steep, high traction climbs really show where it lacks. I’m running RK 2” triple rate springs, JK44s with 5.13s and 37s. The front is stretched just a touch but planning to stretch the rear 6” and move up to a 39 once I get some more power. This little setup on 37s works amazingly well, but some extra wheelbase will be nice. I have only had this engine issues twice. This time on Pritchett and 2 years ago on Cliffhanger. It was incredibly hot both days so I’m sure getting rid of some of that engine bay heat would help for sure. Thanks for watching!

Lol… I prefer to have my gimbal and tripod, but with space issues and fragile equipment that’s not always possible in the Jeep.
