Missing is a comparison of how the hitches work and why you prefer one over the other.

I prefer a 5/1 Michoacán with a 12mm prusik. Doesn’t slip as much but descends plenty smooth with the rope I have. I’m 240 so if you’re a lot lighter you might not need the extra top wrap.

Nice video, The Knut has been around longer than the Michoacan. A friend Martin Morales was working on tying the Knut and creating the Michoacan. I started with the Knut and then moved to the Michaocan with an 8mm 24" cord and 4 wraps. Mostly I use the Rope Wrench and Michoacan nowadays. Both are great hitches. Good video! Thank you!

Thank you, I noticed this knot in a previous video of yours and thought it would be great to try out. I was using the VT on with my rope wrench and was frustrated with the overall length and its constant stretch to the very bottom of the wrench. The compactness of the Knut definitely solved that issue for me.

You're right, they are so similar. the Knut is older than the michoacan, on the year 2001 I was trying to tie it and because of that similarity, I came up with the climbing hitch that later I would called the Michoacan. Thanks for sharing.

How did it get its name, if I may ask? Do you normally write it without the accent mark present in 'Michoacán'?

i have found that i like hitches that the top wrap gets wrapped around the other leg of the hitch and used before clipping to the beanr. i find that the top wrap does the real holding and if it cinches tooo tight it makes the hitch not fun to move around after putting yo body weight on it. i really like the matt cornell hitch that one is my favorite also the 3-4 vt is one to and if dressed and set correctly there is very minimal set back. thank you pat for everything you have done for the climber. i still read my new edition fundamentals!!! whoot whoot one love buddy

This winter is used a schwabisch, distel, VT, XT, Michoacán, and now I’ll try this. All others bind up on me after use, and the Michoacán was the easiest to adjust. Are you using a 10mm hitch cord in this video. I’m thinking that might help with the binding. I have also tried taking one wrap off some of these knots. Any suggestions? Great videos, thanks for everything you do.

Michoacan is great for all purpose. It's what I've been climbing on almost exclusively for the last two years. Knute traditionally seems to be most often recommended for lanyard use. Although years ago, I used it all time on my main climbing line with great results. It all depends on your climbing rope and prusic diameters/materials. Patrick here is motivating me to give the knute another try!

@@TreeMuggs_PatrickM thanks for the reply. I trimmed trees 20 years ago now. And never used or saw these techniques for tree climbing. Im still very active using rigging as I am a lineman and we use a lot of gear and different techniques. Over the years as a lineman it’s amazing the technology and techniques that is out there now for my trade. I feel like as time went on techniques and gear from rock climbing, sailing, tree trimming were all incorporated and passed around. I only trim my trees on my property and for close friends now, but have recently been watching videos of tree trimming and everything seems different now with single line climbing and using the pulleys in the climbing hitch. Even the belts are way different. I’m gonna have to try some of these newer techniques. All I’ve ever used was the tail end from my snap to tie a Blake hitch on my moving rope system. Lol forgive me if I didn’t get some of the terminology right.
