I feel like Dawes is a hybrid between british comedy and climbing, and I don't know anyone else like that. Great guy

Johnny Dawes, the real deal, there were a few climbers at that time that were inspiring, but something about him and his climbing blew me away, thought to myself, how the hell does he do that.

I'm not really arsed about climbing as much as I used to so it feeds my saltiness wonderfully when Dawes slags off the modern boulderer

Millstone edge was never chipped... it's a quarry where thousands of tonnes of gritstone were removed, bore holes were drilled into the rock for blasting and then it was used for target practice by rifle regiments and then aid climbed in for decades with hammered pro. Definitely no chipping though.

@@johnnydawes7099 joke obv. millstone edge is itself a crag length chip; a massive example of human industrial brutality, the hillside littered with discarded millstones and metalwork that photographers flock to. Hard to deny chipping went on there... none of the classic peg scars would exist without hold modification. I imagine you’re referring to the ‘aggressive cleaning’ of Scritto’s prior to the first ascent in particular?
