+Kevin Smokler Also, it was a time where 'sensual' was cool - versus 'sexual' today in movies - raw, impersonal, and not memorable. But then again that's typical of today in most things.
+Carl Bonroy Too true. Also "sensual" is still around in today's teen movies, albeit a bit harder to find. Juno, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Paper Towns and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl are all great modern day teen movies that have a respect instead of a smutty preoccupation with young love.
So many things about this kiss that make it my favorite ever. The tomboyish best friend waiting for her chance, the way she controls the situation, the way his dirty hands dig in (kind of my favorite part), the way he seems reluctant to stop, the way she pulls him in with her legs before she finally pushes him away... this seductive, hard-to-navigate dance between them that shows the audience what Watts knows & what Keith should know: Watts is real attraction, not some fantasy woman. Best kiss!
still have this song on my Playlist. spent years looking for it in the 90s . thank god for the internet ... love this one the most out of all the John Hughes movies. they actually did a reunion interview in 2012
I was the perfect age when this movie came out, growing up and discovering girls. I had a huge crush on Mary Stuart Masterson and she still looks amazing today.
I agree with the whole lot of ya here!! Definitely one of the best onscreen kisses ever, if not THE best!!! It's quite innocent and yet at the same time you can still squeal over it and blush just as much as Watts did after the kiss. XD I don't like kisses these days where it's all tongue and slobber. Just no. But this, this is a definite yes. I'm hoping my first kiss can be like this one day with someone just like Keith. It'll be tough to come by, but a girl can dream lol
Mary Stuart Masterson is so awesome in this movie.Sadly she didn't seem to do a lot of movies afterwards.Loved it when it came out, still a great film today.
Watts only kissed him because she was JEALOUS!, and wanted to be the first to kiss him. Watts also wanted to show keith how she feels about him!!!!!!!!
I just read that she blushed. So I looked this up. Yep. That's some no kidding blushing. She turns bright red. Really cute. Perfectly executed by Masterson ~ whether she meant to or not. lol.
& then you saw Mask & had recurring nightmares for 20 years, right? (The blind girl is Laura Dern, who Billy Bob Thornton dumped for Angelina jolie) I liked Eric Stoltz in the Wild Life (R.I.P. Christopher Penn) the crash down wall scene is classic! I've always wanted Mary Stuart Masterson's red fringe gloves! Back then I wore fingerless lace Madonna gloves
I LOVE this scene & her!! I loved Leah Thompson so much too from Back to the Future until this movie... it messed with my head because she was too good at being an unlikable person. I rooted for Watts the whole movie & despised Leah's role. Anyways, I didn't realize until NOW that my favorite director John Hughes, made this, no wonder it's 1 of my faves. Love the great 80's films!
I saw Mask when it was released back in 1984. When I realized it was him, I was pretty impressed with the makeup. He still looks fab. What happened to MSM?
I remember seeing this as a kid and couldn't wait till I got to high school so I could find my own Watts. Never did find her. At this point I'm pretty sure she doesn't exist.
yaaaaaa....brings back memories of my first girlfriend...finding out the rules of love.....don't you just miss youth and innocence.....I remember holding her hand for the first time and what a rush I just got from that......kiddies nowadays skip all that and rubber up and just want to screw.
It's no secret that early episodes and storylines in Dawson's Creek were heavily influenced by John Hughes 80s teen flicks. And Some Kind of Wonderful is no different. The love triangle of a Dorky outcast infatuated with the school It girl and has his tomboy best friend who's madly in love with him. Dawson Leery would go through something similar. Only his is with a New York exile and his tomboy best friend. See the resemblance?
nula1998 True dat. He did say it was semi autobiographical. Dawson Leery was the protagonist Kevin Williamson channeled all his film making hopes and dreams. But do you see how much the DC's saturday detention episode was a nod to Breakfast Club?
