Brutal how in "Long Way Away" it says "pray that your children never have to sing this song" and in "Long Way Away (Instrumental)" there is a futuristic version of the instramental with a lot of static, presumably being played by the guy on the ship.

Daveed singing makes sense conceptually, he's the lone survivor of a space slave uprising, there's no one else around to sing. Loved the whole album.

"The keyword is 'KEMMER'. That's what your ass needs" + interlude 2 (numbers). The interlude is apparently meant to be translated into the NATO phonetic alphabet into a string of random letters. Pair this with the keyword "KEMMER" when using the vigénére cipher, you get the phrase "thetargetisamyclark". Amy Clark. "Doc Clark" is referenced in story 2. Clipping is definitely stringing their whole discography together conceptually

This was a great album. Felt like a movie; diggs really rapped his ass off on these distorted beats.

Not sure if anyone's brought it up, but there is actually some morse code threaded into True Believer that supposedly reads as "Grace is Randy's Sister," tying that song to one of the first two stories.

This album is, I think, the best project of this year, so far, next to Death Grips and Swans albums. This album is a wonderful album that combines social commentary, bluesy vocals and musique concrete. One thing that not enough people talk about is the fact that the story is told from the view point of the computer. This adds a certain dead tone to the lyrics. The music on this album perfectly suits the lyrics. This is evident in the song All Black, which contains a sparse beat that matches the 'all black' refrain. True Believer, Break The Glass, All Black, Story 5, Baby Don't Sleep and A Better Place were some of my favourite tracks. Another thing that this album does amazingly is ordering the tracks. Story 5 is a wonderful relief from Break The Glass. Their best album instrumentally and lyrically. For me, there are a couple of tracks on CLPPNG that I would skip. This album however, I can't skip anything. People!!! Give me your rankings and scores for each of their albums (including Wriggle). Splendor And Misery 9/10 CLPPNG 8/10 (easily a 9) Wriggle 6/10 Midcity (haven't listened to)

maybe just because i'm an optimist, but i like to think the crazy stuff right at the end of the last song is the ship crashing into a planet - a "better place", potentially, for the protagonist

We had the same experience with this album. At first I was confused. But then I read the lyrics, and the whole album got so much better. Even after that, I was not sure how to feel. It took a while. Now I absolutely love it. One of the most unique albums I have heard in a very long time.

What are your thoughts on Hamilton?

This album was my introduction to clipping. I loved this album might be one of my favorites of this year. Definitely going to check out their other records.

Regarding how 'Story 5' connects to the other Story tracks, I'm fairly sure that Grace is the sister of Randy, the cop from the first 'Story', mainly because both tracks reference her dying in a taxi accident. There's also someone who claims that the Morse code from 'True Believer' specifically says GRACEISRANDYSSISTER, although I don't know enough about Morse code to confirm. Still, it's an interesting connection.

I love it, so much, this album. You, Anton Fantwon, introduced me to clipping through a best/worst tracks of the week. I will never forget this. Thank you.

I think the older gospel sounding songs are either the ship looking into the past and what cargo 2331 likes, or it's Cargo 2331 replaying the songs in his head. Since story 5 comes right before baby don't sleep, which to me is the ship waking him up, I think he is dreaming story 5 or it's a childhood song he is dreaming of. Somebody already probably commented this, But I think the reason he sings the long way away part on Better place, is because it's him either singing the song itself, or freestyling from the song long way away. Just my theory. loved the album though.

I like your videos, but this one should of had a *spoiler alert* in the beginning since it was such a conceptual storydriven album. And the review felt more scripted than most of you other videos. keep on keeping on

i was really satisfied with how this record panned out; feel like diggs is one of the better storytellers in rap currently, and taking this ridiculously left-field approach w/a concept album just feels so very clipping (even if i couldn't call this exactly for the life of me). kinda reaffirms to me that wriggle was some kinda purging of a more 'accessible' sound, which kinda burns out the single power of this record, but still dope af. was fortunate enough to snag the clear vinyl, stoked on it

After listening to this in late 2017, I've came back to the album again and again, and I think it's easily a 10.

This is absolutely one of my new favorite albums over the past few years

Great review of the album! I don’t know if you’d ever do public speaking or audiobooks or podcasts but your voice is really really good. Loved this one. They're so good at world building, like you could go into this record without knowing anything about it, take away all the lyrics, and you'd still know that it was about a disaster set in space. You're right about the time too, it's so impressive how concise it is. I tend to love highly conceptual albums anyway, so it's probably not much coming from me :P AOTY so far tho.

I'm feeling a viscous eight. It's very hard to quantify, with it being so difficult to compare to anything else. It's bold and intriguing, and it puts up such a fight. I'll come back to it, if I can gather the mental strength.

Still waiting for my Pre-Order of this album to come in....and once I give it a listen, I swear I'll come back and watch the review! My hopes are high!

Wriggle was inspired by power electronics/industrial, they even sampled some PE songs. It's not really low-fi, its supposed to sound that way.
