Just use the same excuse that the US military used in Vietnam and even to this day with flamethrowers that they are meant to be used for clearing brush... Or whatever happens to be in that brush
Jokes aside, he was completely justified. Geonosians use guns that melt organs, and they torture and eat those they capture. He was entirely justified using them in order to save himself and his men from that.
Using flamethrowers isn’t a war crime technically speaking, it was just deemed to brutal for warfare, but as we see throughout the show, you do what you can to win
I find the whole people being shocked by the flamethrower scene a bit stupid, it's not that gruesome and it was used on insect type aliens not humans, I saw this episode when I was 9 years old and wasn't disturbed by it at all.
I guess if you look at it as cartoon violence it doesn’t seem so bad, but in irl death by flame thrower is probably one of the worst and most gruesome ways to go out, Bug or no bug. Plus I love how nonchalant Mundi says “Bring our the flamethrowers” I almost expected him to stop the clones from shooting and tell them to let the bugs burn
@@MrElmo54321 Yeah, i don't think anyone is unironically shocked, it's just that contrast between the Jedi going on and on about being peacekeepers and then bringing out a weapon that's generally seen as a bit warcrimey raises a few eyebrows.
@@dxanatos2 Imo lightsabers are more "warcrimy". They mutilate, cripple, and if they directly stab someone realistically it should be a slow painful death, even though 99% of the time someone who got stabbed by a lightsaber in the show or movies dies near instantly.

It isn't also a war crime in real life. The international convention only prohibited its use against civilian populations. Becz incendiary weapons are also dangerous for the wielder and surrounding civilian areas. Here, Mundi is clearly justified becz it's a fcking WAR and the enemy soldiers are butchering the clones one by one, clones stand no chance. Only the flamethrowers saved Mundi's battalion from that cave. In real life warfare, flamethrowers are mostly used against bunkers and fortifications to flush out enemies.
Yeah,...most people are just being ridiculous. War is war, you kill the enemy soldier, burn them or butcher them, doesn't matter. I also find the tactical purpose of flamethrowers more interesting. Most movies depict them as short-ranged weapons. But they are far more deadly against fortifications and bankers and really long-ranged. There are only certain protocols on incendiary arms becz of side effects on the wielders and collateral damage.

I really wish People stop talking about all the "war crimes" Through out Star wars timeline. All factions are guilty of war crimes from the old republic era to the legacy era. Every faction one way has committed a war crime. I really wish the star wars community just stop with the war crime talk and just enjoy Star wars the way it is. Actually, using flamethrowers is not war-crime in real life. It is only limited in usage becz of side effects to the wielder and civilian populations. Tactically speaking, flamethrowers are indeed the only reason Mun-di's battalion survived.
You do realize that still does not make it war-crime risk free right? A simple Google search will tell you that it's way more complicated than just "side-effects" on civilian or user. Because oh boy you'll get more than just the smell of gasoline High with this bad boy.
I think this was why Grievous never looked up Ki Adi Mundi for a rematch. He heard of him giving his troopers flame throwers and heavy explosives and knew they were likely meant for him in a "dodge this MFer" kind of mentality.

This fits well into my running theory that using the force in the Star Wars universe slowly erodes a persons ability to think rationally, until all force users become myopic hypocrites incapable of realizing that they have contradicted their own inane pseudo-philosophical BS.
