Good question. Both belong to different classes of drugs.Aspirin is a NSAID( non steroidal anti inflammatory drug), Plavix is an antiplatelet drug.Aspirin can be used for a variety of symptoms such as fever, pain and inflammation.Aspirin can be also used to prevent clots.Plavix is primarily used to prevent clots. Both reduce heart attacks and strokes.
I asked the same thing to pharmacist when picked up for my mom , he grinned and couldnt answer , You thought Mexico was the drug cartel capital , Think again . and every prescription id Manufactured by a different source ,
i been on this medication for 9 years i cant tell if it is helping or not,,, i have suffered 4 "widow" maker heart attacks and a stroke and many other illness`,, so far i have out lived the time the doctors gave me so i feel i am mighty blessed
Well, heck! I been on it two and just FEEL like I’ve been through what you have. Yeah it’s hard to tell if this stuff is doin more harm than good. It’s always “see your doctor” Hooey. Carry on sir!
Get on a carnivorous diet eating mainly saturated fats and avoiding all carbs. Atkins was a cardiologist not a freak. He actually cured people instead of treating.
I was prescribed Plavix Clopidigerel in 2002. I have at several GP's request, tried the generic forms, and each time the trial lasted 1 might. My heart rate at rest went through the roof at over 120 BPM. I had to endure that for several hours before it returned to normal.
Huh...my boyfriend had 4 bypass he's 2 months out and his resting heart rate was 45 BPM every morning so he stopped the Plavix and the following morning it finally went up to 85 BPM resting heart rate...🤷
Great overview, Dr. John. Thank you for including the possible interaction with omeprazole. Since omeprazole is over-the-counter, many physicians don't know when their clopidogrel patients are taking it. Nice video.
My sister had this after having a blood clot in her arm. She did seem to be doing well, we were positive she was developing dementia. No one would listen. She then fell, and after a scan was told she had scarring on her brain, multiple brain bleeds, a haematoma, and subarachnoid haemorrhage. She was sent home very confused, lives alone, but had carers. Who to be honest were not great. Eventually she was placed in a nursing home and remains there after being diagnosed with rapid onset dementia, then told she has double dementia, vascular, and all heifers. I do wonder if this drug was the cause, but will never find out.
And Gingko Biloba is a natural blood thinner. Careful not to take while taking blood thinners, or fish Oil who is also blood thinning. Talk with the doctor. I take it, but not daily, or O take only half a tablet. Be careful. It does not have side effects, it is plant based. I am very careful with everything I take and check on the internet about each one. 1:43
Thanks Doc. Been taking Plavix for 2 years and my Cardiologist now wants me to stay on it for 1 more year. No issues other than the odd random bruise on my arms and periodic dyspnea. I'm a 74 y.o. male. Comments?
The dosage and length of treatment are based on your medical condition and response to treatment. If you are taking this medication to prevent clots after a stent implant or other procedure, take this medication with aspirin for many months to years after the procedure (depending on the procedure/type of stent) as directed by your doctor.
... taking this 75mg daily with warfarin ... I need an INR check to see how close to 5 I am. Balance is currently the biggest side effect I have Evem a 15 mph wind can tip me over... just putting on sox is a balance nightmare ... I rely on a cane tho 75 here ...
Plavix has caused me to have leg pain, I stopped the crestor first it improved but if I walk any distance or stairs I have to sit down. I don't have heart issue it was a stent in my neck. I am skipping it today. Please do a video on these side effects.
I’ve just had a blood clot stroke followed by covid and have been taking 75mg since. It’s hard to know what are the side effects from the stroke, covid or the meds. I get dizzinesss and nausea but I think that’s from the stroke.
Is Omega 3 supplement (1000mg capsules) ok with Clopidogrel ?? If it's not ok to take Omega 3 with Clopidogrel is it ok to eat oily fish (Salmon, Sardines etc) ??
Generally there should be no issue. However, check with you health care provider as they are aware of you medical history and the other medications you areon.
I'm taking this medication for a brain aneurysm pipeline procedure and unfortunately got allergies from it( itching all over) ( numbness on my lips) so I called my doctor and he prescribed steroids.
Hi doctor. Im on clopidogrel 75mg for few years now. But im.also taking satreline since last year. The doctor said thats the least effect compare to other medicine. Any advice ?
When you were saying this and this and displaying the reactive drugs they weren' t readable,Doctor! you should have shown tha page with the list of them. Improve the quality of your microphone please!
namasthe doctor. I have had two stents placed. it's been 15 months. and this month the doctor did not give clopidogrel. whether it is right or wrong. Thank You
I'm on Clopidogrel since stenting with DES 4 years ago. Would it be possible to stop this medication totally. As I know this meds is used with aspirin as duel antiplatlet therapy after stent to prevent stent thrombosis
@@ThinkYourHealth Maybe if you included a warning? That way people would be prepared? Some people may watch while eating, so at least they would be prepared. But it's good to see it, I guess.
@@ThinkYourHealth Hello John , unfortunately i have just started with bloody stools, Been on Clopidogrel 4 months since coronary restenting, am seeing doc next week , thanks for the info . 🇬🇧 👏👏☹️
I am a dialysis patient. Last one month my stomach has increased to a considerable size. If I have food there is belching & gas. Dr. has advised me to take pan 40 for gas. Is this a side effect due to the aspirin & clopilet I take. I did an ultrasound of my abdomen. Everything is normal. I am 70yrs old 6 months on dialysis
Clopidogrel has studies to back it up and shows a mortality benefit. Here is somewhat of a study comparing the two:www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fneur.2019.00044/full
I am also looking for orthomolecular med not toxicmolecular your body does not recognize.Vitamins are safe and effective no deaths from vitamins. Blessings
Check with your Doctor as I do not know your entire medical history. If the question is if taking Clopidogrel is a contraindication for taking the COVID vaccine...no it is not.
At stent implement Dr. Prescribed Ticagrelor 90mg, now it's being almost 15 months and Ticagrelor 90mg is stooped by Dr. And Prescribed Clopidogrel 75mg, but having the same, my father got neck pain, acidity and back pain. Should he stop having this for fewer day's. He is also taking another blood thinner like Ecosprin, Atorvas 40mg, Ramace 2.5mg and Met XL 25mg. Please suggest about Clopidogrel 75mg
My mum has been on clopidrogel for 18 months she has recently been getting nose bleeds once/twice a week that last up to an hour sometimes longer, doc wants her to stay on this drug she has started taking aspirin instead. Is it safe to cycle these drugs e.g.say two weeks on one week off to let the body have a break from these drugs.
Generally, would stay with the one drug or the other a both although they have similar effects work differently .If your mother has a history of a stent, clopidogrel is the recommended choice.Regarding the nose bleed have a discussion with your Doctor weighing the pros and cons of treatment.Would also monitor her blood count to check her CBC( Complete blood count) and check hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelet count.
@@ThinkYourHealth thank you for the feedback. She has switched over to aspirin and takes them every other day, nose bleeds stopped instantly and she's had no other issues since.
Currently anti-platelet treatment such as aspirin or other anti-platelet agents (Clopidogrel) for individuals with COVID-19 (inpatients or outpatients) is not warranted., Aspirin can be used for standard indications. Anti-platelet agents are continued if the patient has other co-morbidities warranting continuation of these medications .Here is a look of a trial if you are interested.
Sir, Few years back my father developed blood vomits due to aspirin and since than we are avoiding aspirin and pain killers but now one of the doctor prescribed to take clopidogrel in place of aspirin.. so plz tell that we should take it or not because I’m confused
That is a good question. It depends on what caused your father to vomit blood.Clopidogrel is a blood thinner and also increase the chances of a bleed.Discuss with your prescribing Doctor your concerns.
@@ThinkYourHealth Thanks Sir for reply but My doctor said that you can take clopidogrel instead of aspirin and no need to worry so pl tell should we carry on with his advice or consult with gastroenterologist . Regards
Taking an extra 2-3 tablets will likely be not harmful. The half life of this drug is about 6 hours. If you do have any unusual symptoms especially bleeding and bruising contact your Doctor ASAP.
Dr how you doing. If you read my question need your advice regarding polyps notice in gallbladder. Dr asked to wait for couple of month than you may have to ho for surgery. I need your opinion. Pt has vit. D very low taking precipitation vitamin D. Need your advice and opinion. Thank you.MayGod bless you all. Thanks.
Polyps of the gallbladder are typically incidental findings detected during radiologic imaging of the abdomen. Sometimes gallbladder polyps can cause pain in the right upper side of your abdomen. Most gallbladder polyps are benign. The only exception to this are adenomas. The larger the poly, the higher the chance of cancer.(Esp. if over 1cm).Other risk factors are if you are above 50 y/o and if you are of Indian ethnicity.Work up and further surveillance as well ,as depends on these risk factors and whether you have a history of another disease call primary sclerosing cholangitis. If you do have pain in your abdomen or a history of pancreatitis with polyps the generall recommendation would be a surgical intervention. If you don't have pain the, as I mentioned above, further work up would depend on how large your polyp is. If I understood you correctly, if someone has low Vitamin D it should be replaced from external sources (food) as well as with Vitamin D supplementation. Since, I am not you Doctor and dont have all the details of your history, please talk to your Doctor as she/he can give you appropriate advice given your past medical history.
There should not be.Each tablet contains hydrogenated castor oil, hydroxypropyl cellulose, mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose and polyethylene glycol 6000 as inactive ingredients.I am talking about Clopidogrel. The color of the tablet will have different ingredients. You can check with your pharmacist locally if the ingredients in anyway differs.
@@ThinkYourHealth sir can you say me how much time it take clopidogrel 75 mg to fully eliminate from body and also its side effects after stopping it??
@@ProfessorTanyaSpeaks I use a Canon T6s. Thinking of upgrading to a full frame mirrorless camera. Canon RP or Canon R. I also like canon M50, not a full frame, but smaller in size.
Go by what you Doctor is saying, however, if you are having uncontrollable bleed ( such as a bleeding stomach ulcer, or a brain bleed), then in those situations it would have to be stopped to decrease the chances of a further bleed.
Hi Doc, i had a heart attack this feb 2022. In march 11 suddenly i have off balance situation. Its been a month after all my med include clodiprogrel. On 4th april doc reduces my med to help with my off balance problem..but till today after 20 days still no change. Doc cannot take out the 2 blood thinner clodiprogrel n asprin. He took out my 2 bp med. It could be the clodiprogrel that causes this off balance prob.
Clopidogrel is usually not associated with balance issues.I would assume that you doctor reduced(took out) your BP medications as he/she thought that they were causing orthostatic hypotension.
One has to be on either Clopidogrel or Aspirin for life after heart attack. So if your doctor is asking you to take both, then better go to other doctor.
@@vijayakumarn5274 my gp cant decide for me and after i stoped aspirin n continue with clopidogrel my balance seems to go away except the headache which could be the bisoprolol 2.5 i need to wait for my cardio appt next month n see what the doc said .
