Only in Canada could we take something (that any other country would consider embarassing) and turn it into a totally appropriate gag to start the closing cerimony with. I loved it. Neil - was the icing on the cake to me. When he sang - I cry. Whenever I watch the clip of him; I always cry because it was just so simple, so Canadian. I miss the games - such an incredible time. I hope they come again to somewhere else in Canada so we can feel this way again...
@@Nathaniel3040 No doubt they could host it again. All the venues are technically there. Maybe a different venue is needed for Curling this time. Add a new Olympic Village, operating costs and you have an Olympics that could happen again without any need for taxpayer expense.
12 years after I still think both this and the opening ceremony of Vancouver were the best ceremony in a long time. Canadians really made two marvelous event, I do hope they get to organize the 2030 Olympics ❤️
Yeah or any stupid rants by Don Cherry I’m glad CBC fired him after he made that stupid rant about Remembrance Day because no one cares about garbage like that...
Had to watch the opening and closing ceremonies again! Love how Canadians make fun of their mistakes, then have a very sincere speech and are so welcoming and then party hard all in the same ceremony! Best Olympics ever.

Over a year later and I still tear up everytime I watch these videos. What an amazing show of patriotism from our great country! I have never been more proud to be Canadian.
i wnt vancouver to host in 2030 so bad, i was 6 in 2010 but been going back and watching a bunch of stuff liek the gol dmedal hockey game. canada is one of the top 4 bids rn
Love Canadian sense of humour! Canada Rocks! Not many countries can make fun of themselves but we seem to excel at it. So miss the Vancouver Olympics. It was a great party and the friendliness and joy on the streets are unparalleled.
The games have came to an end with a glorious Sidney Crosby’s Golden Goal and I’m blessed to be a Canadian for the last 4 years, now 13 years ago in 2023, I’m 17 years old and why am I overthinking and seeing Vancouver 2010 after the games are over??? #nostalgic 😢🥲 The XXI Olympic Winter Games will historically always be a part of me, Vancouver, British Columbia and Canada, always. ❤️🇨🇦 2:02:03
My wife and I went to Vancouver to see some hockey. It was the firtst Ollmpics I've ever been to and the people there were great. So friendly, any local would drop what they were doing to give directions to anyone who asked. They were all amazing representatives of BC and Canada. It was so sad watching the closing on TV after we'd gotten home. Such a great time, something I'll never forget. Thank you, Vancouver!
Very good idea to allow people to see the whole events and ceremonies. Each country always gives its best and show several pieces of their faces and culture. Vancouver's closing ceremony was a moment of joy and the relationship we can have with the nature, in Sotchi in was more emotional. Now we have to wait 4 more years to see what Pyeong Chang will do for South Korea.
@1:30:40 This was the first time (I'm American) I had ever heard the Russian national anthem ten years ago, and I was so impressed by this exceptional performance by their choir delegation that I still have never forgotten it. And in my experience to this day IMO it remains the best performance of it I've yet heard. Our nations have always had our share of differences, to say the least, but I have to say I think Russia has one of the world's most beautiful anthems. Well done to the Russian singers (and their conductor as well), and thank you/merci once again to Canada and Vancouver for hosting a brilliant games in 2010! :)
Lol I loved how they incorporated the glitch into the closing ceremony and even had that construction mime "Look it's up! I fixed it!" I did not see that before lol D:
i wish i wasnt 5 when these games where happening. ive cried twice now an dits 4 am. I cant stop watching these olimpics now that the tokyo games are over
ok two things, One: i loved the games, and when Rick Mercer said that the Athletes owned the podium already he wasn't kidding, and two these shots area amazing, whoever was on the teams that shot the cinematography and whoever edited them are amazing!!!
I liked how Beijing and Vancouver told a story. And I liked how London's was entertaining and full of energy. They were all awesome. But in the end, I'm Canadian, and Vancouver 2010 will always have a special place in my heart, because there were just so many awesome memories from it.
It's been a while now and this is as fresh and awesome as the day we watched it. I remember everyone talking about it over the next few days. Just WOW.
***** Ugh.. I think I purposely blocked that out.. LOL Then again I block out pretty much anything having to do with Wayne Gretzky, almost everyone but the politicians in our town does.. Now Walter?... There's a man to admire :-) OK with the exception of the second cauldron lighting I think we did a pretty great job. And that would be in the opening ceremony video, this is the closing.
***** trust me there was no snow it was raining like crazy or at least fr ppl not from Raincouver lol it was a complete washout another Innsbruck 64 episode ahaha u know 09/10 was the only winter in the history of Vancouver we got no snow what timing meantime Al Gores like just u ppl wait lol!!!
Johalvancouver yeah when i was at Kits beach, it started raining just all of a sudden lol! no, i know it rains a lot, but the summers are usually ideal not too hot either minus the summer of 2009!!!!!! jeez I'm not making this up i was bout to go to dairy queen on probably 1 of the hottest days in Vancouvers history that summer, horrible idea!!! the lineup went around the block nearly twice it was insane!!!
I got so exited then during the Sochi opening ceremony when that train came in and they performed the same song they did at the Sochi performance at Vancouver. It bought me back to some good times.
Such a beautiful performance! The performance at 2:22:56 was awesome and so adorable! 😂 By far my favourite Olympic Games yet! I remember watching, I was 10 years old and I felt so proud to be Canadian! ❤️🇨🇦
Brent Mims is correct about David Atkins magnificent staging of the opening & closing ceremonies for the Sydney and Vancouver Olympics. It's interesting that I find myself watching it again, five years later. It was that special. Also of note too, that the Australian summer Olympics is the only other one that I remember fondly, in that it seemed to come off without any hint of a snag or controversy. While the Chinese Olympic ceremony was quite spectacular in scale, the external controversies seem to always muddy the beauty of the efforts. The simplicity and technical wonder (employing superbly timed & immense laser motion graphics) is mind blowing in the Vancouver ceremonies, and was the first time this state of the art system was used on such a grand scale before an international audience. Sydney & Vancouver - both ebullient examples of enthusiastic showmanship embedding warm memories thereafter.

c3cubed actually at the Sydney opening ceremony there was a snag with cauldron that was similar to the snag with the cauldron here. the difference was in 2000 they were able to fix it after about 5 minutes delay
2024, still getting choked up with that soundtrack, especially the music when they unveil the cauldron and why wouldn’t it, the same guy who created the music for Reflections of Earth did this soundtrack.
Go Sid! :D (for the record, I'm American, but I love Crosby- the Penguins are my favorite team- so I'm pretty okay with Canada's gold in hockey) Canada did a fantastic job with the opening and closing ceremonies! Also, Tessa and Scott winning gold in ice dancing was so awesome! (Yes, I'm still excited about these things two and a half years later.)
All I can say is...Jim Furlong should be the 2010 Man Of The Year in Canada....No other has brought a country together, and put on a specticle recognized around the world, for the BEST Olympic 's EVER..in my opinion. R.I.P Nodar...You are in our hearts
I love how the audience was given a chance to participate just by wearing a few Canadian tokens. Really brings everyone together along with a sense of unity.
Some real good Canadian artists would include: Metric The Weakerthans Great Big Sea Barenaked Ladies Three Dead Trolls in a Bag Ashley MacIsaac Buck 65 Shad A Tribe Called Red City and Colour The Caravan
the rock Aye! I feel ashamed for forgetting them. But not as ashamed as the people who organized the above event, with Avril LeWho and Nickleballs, should feel. Nothing against them, they're just poor representatives of good Canadian music.
+Tony Bjornson avril lavigne: the most canadian famous in the word, +40 millions álbum sold, nickelback +70 milion álbum sold, the rock band whit the most sold after Beatles, LOOL WHO????? rindo pra não chorar, e falei tudo errado mesmo pq não sei inglês direito e não tava afim de ir no tradutor!

Okay it is clear to me that malfunction in opening ceremony the one cauldron didnt lit because it doesnt go out from under the stage but it is a wonderful host country canada!!!!
It loved it because we showed stereotypes...anyone that watched that segment and thought that's all we are, obviously missed the stereotype we were promoting - our self-depreciating sense of humour. Besides, all Canada has pride in hockey, right?
