The best and most honest review on these lights!

Thanks for making a video of what everyone is asking for. After you pointed out the Modlite not having great mid range spill, I think I'm leaning towards the Rein a little more now. It's interesting that the Modlite has great close spill and great throw, yet there are dark areas in the mid range that the spill is just not able to illuminate. The Rein has a more consistent illumination for all ranges from what I can tell in the video. I also wish the color temperature was something between these two.

The REIN is superior, and I’m not biased by making that statement. (I own both and love both)

Very good review. Regarding the fog contrast, in my eyes, the REIN seemed to "penetrate" better. With the REIN the fog barrier felt "softer", whereas with the Modlite it felt more like a "defined/thicker barrier". Not sure if this is scientifically accurate or just perception.

Beat the crap out of a modlight like the CD dudes do their lights. You’ll see why CD is your best option for weapon lights right now.

One thing you can notice is the tone of the cloud cuts through the fog easier.. I believe that was an intentional design choice... the hyper white mod light picked up what little fog you had out there

I know for my eyes, looking at these lights on videos, several of them, I prefer the CD temperature of the light. I'm not sure if me being color blind messes with the Modlite color, but the CD is a ton better for my eyes. I have an OWL and love that and will get the REIN, once they get caught up with orders.

Idk about the 18350's but the 650's you get an additional 45min run time with the REIN. Also CD claims you actually get 6hrs run time however after 120min performance is diminished but still usable light. IMO in shtf scenario, run time is most important. Also, the cable management integration with clouds tape switch and end caps, not to mention with their end caps, you retain the endswitch WITH the tape switch, not one or the other. Also the end cap button is larger than surfires. Cloud defensive takes the win

Not sure what kind of fantasy SHTF you can just blast a high brightness white light at night for hours and don't get in trouble or killed. I would argue the size/weight advantage of 18350 will improve the agility of your rig, it will end up being significant along with careful selection of other accessories. Rifle lights are meant to be used carefully and TEMPORARILY anyways. If you need to see at night for extended time, you should get a solar charging lamp or even better NVG, pvs14 runs ~40hrs on one AA.
@JohnZ556
@JohnZ556 Год назад
😂 if you ever try to set up for NV, you will find the Rein is its own eco system, and the remote is just too huge you wouldn't have room to set up your IR and remote like you otherwise could to an optimal placement. I love Rein for something I only care to mount a good white light neatly. And probably within or around my yard only. Anything more severe than that you likely can't just blast your rifle light on a constant.😉

Definitely one of the best comparisons. I see what you mean about the brown. Was the video accurate to what you saw or did the correction in video settings make it appear this way?
@UnobtaniumsQuickReviews
@UnobtaniumsQuickReviews 3 года назад
Yes, it was true to what I saw. That said, LEDs vary from die to die, bin to bin. As you might know, CRI is a huge factor in being able to discern and define what we see with a light. I have another REIN micro that appears to my eyes to have similar tint, but higher CRI. It's likely just bin to bin variance, as Cloud denies any spec changes. That said, I prefer it to the one in the video ever so slightly.

@WillVerduzco
@WillVerduzco 4 года назад
Great comparison video! Regarding the "brown out" at distance that you talked about with the REIN, I totally agree, though I think it's more down to throw pattern than color temperature. There just seems to be a good deal more detail you can pick up with the PLHv2 in the treeline beyond those targets. When you go back and forth between the two at around 6:45 , the differences in the throw characteristics are very evident. I'm able to see branches and other minor details that are simply absent with the REIN. It'd be great to have the tighter hotspot / better throw of the PLHv2 with the better spill of the REIN -- and as you mentioned, perhaps a color temperature between the two.

Supposedly they have near identical Lux, though...
@WillVerduzco
@WillVerduzco 4 года назад
@@UnobtaniumsQuickReviews "Supposedly" being the operating word here. The performance you demonstrated would have you believe that the REIN offers a higher overall lumen output. Conversely, your tests also would lead me to believe that the PLHv2 offers more real-world intensity/candela, despite the REIN being quoted as having slightly more in its spec sheet. Gotta love first-party marketing numbers, right?
@UnobtaniumsQuickReviews
@UnobtaniumsQuickReviews 4 года назад
@@WillVerduzco I do not have an IS, so without that, I am very very reticent to call BS on CLOUD's claims, however, I do have a free "LUX meter" app on my cell-phone. I compared the REIN Micro and PLHV2 18350 on it/ The PLHv2 18350 seemed to hover in the mid-low 50K LUX range, as rated, while the REIN was in the mid/low 40's. It did spike to about 54K instant-on, so it technically met the spec. The PLHv2 spiked to 64K lux instant on. Seemingly, there was about 10k lux difference throughout the testing. This is NOT a professional LUX metering device, and I provide this only by way of comparison, not claiming it to represent absolutes.
@WillVerduzco
@WillVerduzco 4 года назад
@@UnobtaniumsQuickReviews Wow, that's actually incredibly interesting to hear. And you're totally right -- impossible to draw conclusions as to the ABSOLUTE values, but you can absolutely draw conclusions on RELATIVE values between the two in order to figure out which is higher intensity at the measurement point. Thank you for sharing this data as well.

I am of the opinion that the micro and fullsize are the same, minus battery. The reason the fullsize has a higher output listed is due to sag of the battery under load. The 30Q and other 18650s sag a LOT less than the 18350s, even the latest chemistries. This sag is what leads to slightly reduced output. Not any material differences in the light itself.
