Damn I just found out Jeff Lowe right after I found out about Alex Lowe. This man was so badass he’s inspiring me to be more active and start running again. RIP Legend
Smoking tobacco is actually quite common. It is a stimulant, it helps suppress hunger, it lowers libido, and really helps to calm the central nervous system because high mountain climbers deal with long term cortisol which is the flight/fight response to risk or danger. So tobacco helps to calm effects of cortisol and acts as a stimulant as altitude, strenous exercising can lead to both mental and physical fatigue. At least that was my experience.
@@edmccaffrey1 Yes, and it damages the lungs, reduces aerobic capacity, restricts the ability to perform physically, and the net effect is profoundly negative. I remember being amazed when Jimmy Chinn, Renan Ozturk and Conrad Anker had a few puffs on Meru. Jimmy acknowledged that it was as pretty dumb, but it was their way of saying ‘f%^& you’ the the mountain - not recommended practice!!!
@@jonathanrouane9192 The difference is that there is strong evidence for the harm of smoking, strong evidence that masks saved lives, and no evidence whatsoever of any harm beyond discomfort caused by wearing masks.
Is a great life if you can afford it. Requires great sacrificing of certain relationships, owning many material possessions, and especially sacrificing your body. Ive been tothe edge,there I stood and looked down, you know I lost alot (29), of friends there baby, got no time to fuck around! #lucky2Balive!

Alex lowe is the guy who died on a mountain with his best friend conrad anker. Then conrad married his best friend's widow. His comforting turned into sexual relationship quickly. He adopted his best friend's kids. She kept her married name: lowe. conrad just existed in his deceased friend's shadow.
