This is the way that I replace and install the 2 bronze bushings, I have tried a press, but find this easier , and does less damage. Normally I would have supported the spindle sideways in the vice, and it would have been better. At least you get the idea. If you like this video and can find anything from it then please subscribe to my channel . That way I will know that I am able to help someone , and will post more. Thanks David

David and Suzy, thanks for the video. It was spot on for removing and installing the bronze bushings. I know your method is a correct way since I got in a hurry after installing the first set of bushing and pounded away on the second installation only to mess up the bushing. Use the king pin as a guide as shown.

Great video, first time doing one at work. Installed the bushings and was wondering why the kingpin was binding. Thanks for the help.

It is all about alignment of the bushings as they are being installed. This is an excellent example of the right way to do it. Thank you David.

BECAUSE I had 85 of them to work on I had a lot of practice, the way I do it in the video only takes a few minutes and to me is better than a press

thanks for watching, I have tried a vice, and an actual hydraulic press, but once I got the hang of it I found this way better for me. I am going to have another video coming soon with some other tips take care everyone

Wish I saw this sooner. Beat up one of my spindles and had to order a new one.

all I can say is that i have probably done a hundred or more this way , and they always work out well, use the bushing from the dealer that has the GROOVE and take a used king pin and grind a chamfer on it and please subscribe to my channel David

May I ask where you purchase your bushing kits. There are numerous places of course but would value your opinion as to a seller with good parts. Also, I see the king pin bushings (top and bottom) both have a flange. I have seen where the bottom bushing has a flange but the top does not. Of course, I like the two flange bushings better.

Thanks for this video. This method works great for Precedent bushings. I've replaced several sets and had no problems. Tried doing it on 2 Carryalls and the kingpins were too tight. Had to work on the bushings with a die grinder and tootsie roll. Got them to fit correctly, but it took a while. Is this normal on Carryalls? I guess I'll shop for an adjustable reamer...
@davidandsuzy2516
@davidandsuzy2516 Год назад
Agree 100% the carryall are terrible, and totally different. It seems to me that I tried honing them, BUT that took too long, SO I took a measurement of the king pin and went to a specialty store and bought a drill bit a couple thou. more and drilled the bushing out.

Great vid, thanks for sharing. You took most the worry I had out of the equation. I'm still pretty surprised that the king pin fit into the bushings so nicely. I've heard most ppl have to ream them out. Maybe the brand you are using is better quality? Which brand are these?
@davidandsuzy2516

I tried to press them in, it took longer and they would bind

@@davidandsuzy2516 Your way worked great! I just couldn't get the king pin to fit into the bushing, it had to be reamed out a bit.

@@mygt8a4re glad I could help, were you able to find the same bushing that I use , with the inside groove, also remember to grind a smooth chamfer on the used king pin that you are using to install the bushings
@mygt8a4re
@mygt8a4re 3 года назад
@@davidandsuzy2516 not sure that I found the ones you used or not. Your video did help me to get them installed but the kingpins were too tight to go in the bushings. I had to slightly ream them, then I tapped the kingpins in. This was my first attempt doing this, I'm sure next time wood be alot easier. A bit of a pain but they are in and working great!

My steering/tire jolt when it catches on asphalt. I have worked hard on the alignment, but the wheel feels like it jolts around similar to the front wheels of a shopping cart. Do you have any suggestions to what could be causing this?
@davidandsuzy2516
@davidandsuzy2516 3 года назад
any way that you can send me a picture of your cart standing in front of it about 8 feet away ?
@davidandsuzy2516
@davidandsuzy2516 3 года назад
sometimes when you have too much toe in it will feel like that. just to be safe make sure you have 18 to 20 psi in the tires jack the front up and spin the front tires just to make sure they are running true first
@RichardKinch
@RichardKinch 7 месяцев назад
Sounds like you need more caster adjusted into the alignment. The caster angle is what makes the wheels stable.

Great Video... Have you ever seen a king pin break? Had a tournament last week and a king pin failed (broke) on a cart driven by one of our players and the course is saying that it was due to negligent driving. However, there wasn't any sign of a damaged fender, bumper, wheel/rim, tire etc. just a broken king pin. The course wants to charge us $600 King Pin and bushings + labor. The driver of the cart told us that the cart started steering rather oddly halfway through the round and then finally it went bonkers and the wheel splayed out at the top ( apparently when the king pin totally failed) Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

well I can't say for sure as I was not there. BUT if they have not been greased properly they seize and can break. Whoever worked on them might have given them a shot of grease BUT IT NEVER WENT THROUGH, That is why I used the proper bushings with the the groove to let the grease through.

about $50 in parts and 1 hour labour

Why r u doing this the hard way? U can just use the bench vise to press fit the bushings in
@davidandsuzy2516
@davidandsuzy2516 2 года назад
I have probably done a hundred of these, and tried with a vice, and a good hydraulic press, I have found this to be the quickest way and the outcome is very good, the king pin spins freely and does not bind / some people like white cars and others like blue, / if you prefer the vice method then use it thanks

i changed those bushings out with plastic ones, i am assuming these will not last long. i was disappointed to see how flimsy this set up was, was looking for a beefier solution. My cart was all over the place, tightened it up some, still need to change A arm bushings
