Hack a Shaq was created to foul Shaq because 1. He couldn't shoot free throws and 2. He could run over you and almost get automatic points if you don't.

People could get more rebounds then him, but not many people. No one could guard him at all and you couldn't score on him in the post. @@max41050 wilt was 7 ft 2 275 to 300 lbs way more athletic and strong af. Shaq never faced anyone who could physically and athletically match him match him. You must have selective memory because Russel never could stop Wilt. Wilts biggest downfall was himself. He was selfish, and russel got the best of him as a competitor who could who made his teammates better. Wilt wanted to win the fight, Russel wanted to win the war. But head to head , no center could guard him. Shaq is brute strength, and just pure mass, but wilt was core, conditioning, and explosiveness. Shaq would get his, but it would be no easy feat moving wilt around. Shaq admittedly had trouble moving Yao around. How is gonna stop somone who can match him jab for jab, thats faster, better conditioned, a great defender, super lanky, and strong af? I dont see it happening. Hack a Shaq is still used in the NBA today and it originated cuz of him because of his poor free throw shooting. So teams basically foul the worst shooter on the opposite team on purpose in order to reduce the chance of them scoring points and they will get the ball back in return pretty quick if they need to score asap. Some teams even bring in a player on the team that normally wouldn't get any playing time but they use him for the 6 fouls he has and after he uses them they take him out. This will help the team not get their star players in foul trouble which will get them ejected from the game if they reach the 6 foul limit. I think its time to react to the GOAT of basketball Lebron James :)

They have spare goals. They usually have a crew waiting when Shack played. Ready to clean up and repair back boards he and others broke. Shack was a monster on the court. he is great in so many other ways. He does well whatever he does. he is the premiere all time best center bar non. Yes you have those who scored more, but at a time when they were the only real tall centers. Shack was dominant on any center who played him. He usually had double teams mostly on him. This being said he couldn't shoot free throws at all. So teams in the final 4 to 5 minutes in a close game would foul him banking he would miss a lot. He did! Thus "Hack a Shack was born".

Don't remember the exact quote but when he left the Lakers for Miami he compared himself to a V12 600 Benz as opposed to a 7 series BMW and forecasted a championship the following season which with a lot of help from a young Flash (D .Wade ) he delivered on .

HackAShaq - Shaq couldn't shoot free throws to save his life. So instead of letting Shaq beat you with dunks. Coach Don Nelson used it against Shaq to beat his teams. Coaches around the league adopted the strategy as well to beat teams Shaq was on and later to force teams worse free throw shooter to the line. This strategy helped Shaqs opponents get back into games and also win many games as well.

That guy who was taller than Shaq is Yao Ming, btw he is 7"6. Shaq was not a good free throw shooter so when the game was close they would hack him which is basically an intentional foul an he would go to the line to basically miss free throws an then the opposing team would catch up because of the missed free throws.

The person who taller then Shaw guarding him was 7'6" Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets. Also best rebounders was Dennis Rodman, Charles Oakley and Charles Barkley. Shaq was invincible when he was in 0 range of the basket. Hakeem Olajuwon (center for the Houston Rockets 7'0" 255lbs) was the only person to stop the Shaq Attack (backing in or spinning to the basket and dunking it with authority) in 1994 NBA Finals held him down to 0 in game 4 Shaq only scored 4 pts in that game. Even with that Shaw was the most dominant man in his position same was Kobe after Michael Jordan retired. That's why you always hear Shaq & Kobe not often the 2 most dominant people in their position being on the same team. Darryl Dawkins (center for the 76ers 6'11" 254lbs) also known as "Chocolate Thunder" was the first to break backboards.

Hack-a-Shaq was when the other teams would purposely foul Shaq at the end of close games so that he can go to the free throw line because Shaq is known for his bad free throw shooting.

Hey Vision, If a player breaks the backboard, you get penalized, and fined (+ technical foul). So Shaq was told to use 'minimum' force when dunking. He was handicapped basically, he couldn't use 100% of his strength on his games. The games he dunked and broke the backboard, were only him being excited. Yeah, and Shaq did have fights in his time, but his opponents backed off, cause they knew they would get their jaws and bones broken, so they didn't complain much. Back then, everyone feared Shaq because just imagining a 370lbs 7'1 giant mutant running towards them at full speed would not only break their bones, but could put out a permanent damage on their heads, basketball is a physical game after all, and people dunk with their hands, so you don't want Shaq's hands no where near your head lmao

The player does get fined when they break the backboard or rim. The game is delayed for them to fix it. In the late 70's Darryl Dawkins aka Chocolate Thunder brokerims and shattered the backboard about 3 times. Another player named Charlie "Helicopter" Hentz broke the backboard 3 times in the same game. If my memory serves me correct, he was an ABA player.

Backboard breaking was more done by "Chocolate Thunder" Darryl Dawkins. In fact, he broke down too many backboards the league told him that he would have to pay for any more damages done on the backboards. Now every game has an extra backboard just in case it breaks.
