Tacoma front end clunk *4/24/2018* Update, finally took it in for the free oil change with the dealership. I had them take another look at the 'clicking' sound and they ordered a new body mount for the drivers side. Waiting for it to be installed to see if that cures the issue.

Tacomas major problem is the body mount behind the front wheels by the side view mirror. Toyota did not want to TSB the body mount because it will cost them alot since its ALL OF THE Tacomas have this issue. You can get Energy Suspension $38 and replace the OEM with better/stronger/Rubber material and replace them every 50-60k miles. Also, if you live in CA theres a shop called Beast Fab and I recently took it there for a Tier1 and they retorque, regrease all your suspension parts (UCA, LCA, etc) for $100 bucks. I think all Tacoma owners should complain to Toyota about this problem and issue a recall.

I’m getting that clunk sound too on my 17 Tacoma trd off-road. I’ve had it for 4 months now and took it into Toyota to see what it was but they can’t figure it out. I get the sound when I’m going up hills and reach a stop, some turns. And some bumps. Sometimes I can’t tell if it’s in the front or back but pretty sure it’s in the front. Some videos say it’s the front break pads, another said it was the “ lose cam bolts”

I haven't heard lose cam bolts before. When I think of Cam I think internal unless they are meaning something else. I don't drive truck mush if at all and need to get it in and see if they can try and find it again. I am leaning towards a bad body mount. To me it sounds like a front axle clicking. I'm able to duplicate it locally if I drop off a curb at an angle or if I pull into a steep driverway at some speed. My issue I don't feel it is the front brake pads for I think it would do it all the time not when it 'flexes'. Get it documented when you take it in is all I can suggest for now.

Bob Xziang I checked back with my local mechanic and he had me checking the u-Joints to make sure they were tight. The drive shaft carrier, and the transmission mount. All of these can make those sounds if loose

No i have haven't . I don't drive the truck that much but have been able to duplicate it by dropping off a curb. Once weather gets nicer it is going back to dealer to document it. (Again)

Any progress on it so far? Also if you lift up the hood and have someone hit the brakes to make the noise does it sound like it’s coming from behind the drivers headlight? Cause that’s where mine sounds like it’s coming from.

I haven't driven the truck in a couple months.. Sorry and I haven't gotten it back into the dealership. I'm able to re-create it if I drop off a curb at an angle so they should also be able to recreate it though. (positive thing) Once weather gets better here I'm going to take it back in. (I'll have to remember to add an update) Sorry for no progress

They replaced a body mount that was bad and that fixed the issue. I haven't noticed/heard the issue since. Once they pulled the old mount out it was clear it was bad. (not drive train related which i was surprised, scared me for sounded like a front axle)

@@xziang thanks I’m assuming it was the driver side? Or did they replace both?
