Holy crap... Just watched this after watching all the others -- you were ROBBED! This was dang close to flawless -- beautiful and musical. Bless you man, and keep it up -- you deserve the success that WILL come!
I just watched this and it's now one of my favourite solos; I loved alot of his jazz influence at the start. Being a drummer of 18 years myself with alot of jazz/Latin/rock influence...this solo really spoke to me and taught me new things. The 4-3-2-1 at 4:05 has become a new lesson for me to upgrade my technique. You are a legend drummer Clyde Frasier, I hope you have your own RU-vid channel because I will browse it. Have fun on those drums everyone! 🥁 😁👍
So let me get this straight... Isaias Gil beat this guy?? This dude grooved harder than most in any of these competitions. The dude threw in jazz and swing.... And those brushes in the beginning, my god. And those musical tom fills like wtf?? His 4,3,2,1 thing he did on the kit was so spaced, the amount of control you needed for that wow. GC judges are blind or deaf one of the two for not picking him.
2:29 he dropped a stick .. this is the only reason he could have possibly lost.. the judges had a right to deduct whatever points . after all you are one of the greatest drummers in the world. no judge should "cut him a break". lol. but your statement is entirely true and accurate. without that stick being dropped. he would have obviously won. Clyde has the best performance.. but then again Gils crash on the head of the snare was pretty clever lol.
Its great that South Carolina, and more specifically "Orangeburg, SC" has now gained some notoriety in a nationally recognized event. There's definitely more light that will be shed on this "diamond in the rough" of the music industry. Clyde, you killed it man!!! See you in Brazil!! LOL
This is the winner in my opinion. He had my attention the whole time. I like that he used different groves and played in a nice chop for each. That is versatility
You should have been the winner of that competition man you really deserved. Your performance really inspired me to go to this year's competition but I know I wouldn't go as far as you did or Chris Coleman lol.
I agree with sweetfly66...this is the best overall performance I have seen of the Drum Off finals. He holds a deeper level of command of what he is playing and that translates to a smoother and more enjoyable performance.
Sick groove and very musical. Something a lot of the other finalists in these Drum-Off videos are missing. He knows how to make that snare sound sweet.
@yehboyjor88 when playing many strokes at once, the locked tempo can be lost, however the general pulse and groove is normally maintained in their heads, and hopefully in the audiences too
Just took time to stop through and look at the comments and I'm not saying this Cause ur my bro but....U SHOULDA WON. This was by far the most musical performance of those posted of the years competitors. I mean C'mon people It's a drumoff not a stick spinoff!!!
Its a smaller subdivision of Notes... 1 quarter note equals 2 eighth notes (or four 16th notes) or ( eight 32nd notes)... Its note speeding up, just a different subdivision of notes...
@yehboyjor88 Yeah, we tend to stay in the tempo we started the ''fast solo'' with, I try to get a little more complicated and cut down the tempo and find a way to drop into a 7/4 time signtature or a 5/4.
The 4-3-2-1 was a warm-up I came up w/ to show 2 of my friends different hand/foot passages. It just so happens that if you play a 5pc kit and play 4321, it evenly takes up 64 (16th Notes) which evenly divides into 4 measures w/ the crash ending on beat 1 of next measure. Pretty dope. I shocked myself when I was just playing it... lolol
click through it, he stays at the same tempo throughout, he just changes his note values from 8ths to 16ths, or 16ths to 32nds or 8ths to 32nds etc. or he uses triplets, which sound awkward within the time frame, but they're still in time
question for drummers, like at 1:18 when these guys go crazy fast in solos, are they still keeping on the same tempo as the beat or are they speeding up and slowing down the tempo alot as they wish?
he do you have any idea how to stay with the time signature? like when yer playing sometimes, you just go crazy and you crash on like beat 3/4. So how do you stay with the beat, say 4/4 time? is it just a mental thing? cus like even with off beat stuff i dunno how they could possible think 1,2,3,4 in their head. Any advice?
I think clyde Frazier will woop anybody ass, even Tony Royster, by like a split few seconds, I hope we can see arron Spears, Tony Royster, and Clyde Frazier go at it
@alter measure This guy has good chops, but Royster is on another level. I’ve seen him play in person on what was considered an off day for him, and he still blew this guy out of the water. Nonetheless, Clyde Frazier is a damn good player and I hope nothing but the best for him.
My opinion is : In a drum solo, you choose your own tempo. The basics of druming is to keep your playing at the same tempo. But the rules changes for a solo. If you want to transition in your solo, if you want to go to another "section" of your solo, you maybe want to change your tempo too. So, it may be a good idea to slow down, or speed up, in the middle of a fill or a "crazy fast solo". Sorry if I made any mistakes, I'm French.
a little bit of both.. he stays pretty close to the tempo throughout the whole beginning of the solo. but of course he speeds up at some parts its pretty hard not to.. if you notice he'll go crazy for a burst then when he settles down a bit he gets the high_hat going with his left foot to get the tempo back to where he wants it..
Thanx yall... Yall are too kind... Real Talk... @xlakejunkiex- Im not sure which part you are talking about, but I didnt use any Nite n Tunisia influences in this...
