I've had no problems thus far after doing this tweak and 2nd gear rips! little bit of spinning the wheels again due to faster more precise shifting but it was worth it.

Yeah the only gear I get that lockout is a hard 1-2. I literally have to granny shift it or I get the lockout around 8,000. I’ve ground 1-2 about 3 times. I had a 2001 GS-R with 234k on it and I could slam first to second like butter but this car I need to be easy. From what I’ve read like you said it’s a very common issue. I read it’s mainly caused by the cmc and slave cylinder which have delay valves. I like the idea of this though because I can say the clutch on my FA5 grabs pretty dang low. Original clutch never replaced so that’s Honda’s factory set point and I’d like a higher grab point.

just be careful you aren’t over-stroking your clutch with the longer pedal travel.

Thanks for this! Imma have to try this. I didn't see that it was monetized, so unfortunately I couldn't click on any ads to help you out for your help with this. But this 2nd gear grind has caused major issues to my transmission, ive already modded the slave cylinder and bled the system and upgraded to DOT-4. The change was so slight it wasn't noticeable. I'm definitely going to try this! My third gear is already fuc*ed thanks to the CMC issues as well. So hopefully this will help with the 2nd gear issue. Since this all started there's been no more dig possibilities. Maybe just maybe, I can revive the dig fun! Thanks!!!!

Whats wrong with your CMC and third gear? Im buying a 9th gen and doing research. Thanks
@HippoReacts
@HippoReacts 7 лет назад
The CMC is adjusted stock in a way that prevents damage to the clutch but does MAJOR damage to the transmission. I just adjusted mine, and just learned about this, alas I was too late to get to the adjustment before the damage was done. Due to this slow engagement, I was powershifting from 2nd to 3rd, and hit a syncro, now my 3rd gear is wide open all the time. Meaning I can be sitting still, push the gear shift up to third without touching the clutch, and the block that should be there is not there, it just hits the gear and grinds very loudly! So my driving style has had to change until I can afford to get it all fixed. I have to go like this - 1,2,4,5,6, completely skipping third every time. As long as you get a competition clutch, and fix the CMC and slave cylinder and switch to DOT4 and switch your lines to stainless steel, you'll be so far ahead of the curve that you won't see any issues at all. The slave cylinder has a valve in it that needs to be removed too. That valve causes the clutch to engage too slowly. It's all tied to the rev hang and the smoother transitions from gear to gear so make driving it easier. We don't care about all that rev hang and "smoother" gear transfer because we already know how to drive a stick. Which is why we HATE rev hang and slow gear engagements. When you get a 9th gen get a sedan, its more practical and looks better IMO, (I have the coupe, and lament the choice). Also get a 2015 if you can, they're by far my favorite. I have 13 and really want the 15!

Tbh civic si’s are nice cars, but they aren’t race cars. Quick shifting and banging gears will definitely tear up your synchros. Before you do a full throttle pull, make sure to put your food down in the clutch, and let the revs drop a little before you shift. Ive been doing that and never have had a grind. Be light, and give the clutch and syncros time to work, since there is the clutch delay valve slowing things down.

Mrblipblop what year is your 9th gen si? And so far no issues?
@F0BBYLEE
@F0BBYLEE 4 года назад
Mrblipblop so, recently my oem Honda cmc gave out.. I never did your mod “adjusting the cmc” but recently I installed the kraftwerks sc’er kit and after about 2-3 weeks in the cmc took a shit on me and clutch felt super soft and sunk halfway to the floor and couldn’t change gears.. luckily I didn’t have work the next day so I went and ordered the k-tunes cmc/slave kit and hopefully going in this weekend.. from what I heard, the second gear grind is due to Honda’s clutch delay valve on the.. not to mention that Honda uses plastic internals for the cmc. If anyone is still having the second or third gear grinds just go with a aftermarket cmc that has the cdv already deleted. Problem fixed.

@@Lucky_Logan lucky you but the grind people are getting is from the CDV on the SC. Essentially slows down the clutch engagement. I’ve been driving EF EG and EKs for such a long time that when I got my FB6 I had to get used to the slow shifting of the 9th gens. Doesn’t necessarily mean people are inexperienced.

@GhostYR6
@GhostYR6 7 лет назад
its not that he doesnt know how to shift. im guessing you dont have a 9th gen civic si... this is something that happens to 8/10 people. if not more. once you get to about 6500 RPMS and try to shift quickly, it wont go into second and it will grind the gear until the RPMS lowers to like 4k

105k miles stock clutch FBO/tune since 60k miles and iv only had two or three grinds. And it only happens when i REALLY try to slam the fucking shit outta it. Really only have a problem with reverse, you just have to shift smoother idk, maybe my clutch is blessed
@drklwo39
@drklwo39 6 лет назад
iiRoNiCxDeath well these cars were never really made to be quick shifted. When I first got my ninth Gen, I grinded twice, but for very brief moments. I won’t lie, these transmissions aren’t the best, but you can’t beat on them. They aren’t race cars, so be gentle. Put the clutch in, let the revs drop a little bit, and then shift. You gotta let the clutch and syncros do the work. Shift too fast, and you’ll grind. I’ve had two Honda’s, and can confirm that this definitely alleviates the issue. If you practice, you can still execute the shift quite quickly
@drklwo39
@drklwo39 6 лет назад
R3KONT3K I’d adjust the master cylinder push rod first. Make sure there’s no slack between the pedal and push rod connection (the part with the cotter pin). Leave the play in the master cylinder alone though, then test for clutch drag. You don’t wanna adjust it too far out, or you can pop your master
