In North Korea a university education is free and students are taught from a very young age to abide by the system of government. CNN's Will Ripley reports.
Avocado you’re right, why would they show a public execution to the tourists ? That’s almost like sabotaging themselves. They don’t have access to anything that can link them to the rest of the world because otherwise they would say what happens there that is normalised in North Korea but is in fact monstrous. School there doesn’t educate them, it’s an army like youth embrigadement and the propaganda there is really strong. They’re brainwashed from a young age and de humanised. I bet that if we tested their mental health most of them would be diagnosed with severe mental illnesses as humans need freedom to develop rightly.
JustAnotherBen, yes and there is a reason for that. Kim Jong Un wants North Korea to look perfect, so if you stuff up even the slightest your life is on the line.
@@dwaynethewokjohnson6646 but the thing is, even if they know they obviously wont dare to say cos they will get arrested. So i wonder if they rly dont know or they know but refused to say
+Akelios A Well, if they say "Bad things" about their system and won't stay positive 24/7 when the cameras are rolling, shit will happen to them and their family.
Im honestly surprised he managed to be a feared country He managed to stay at the top while running his country with fear. I'm not in to politics so if anyone could answer, why do his people not rebel or something? Are they too scared? Are they just too loyal?
@@Slysnail5339 No they are brainwashed to respect him. Plus there are really harsh punishments for disobeying against him. Children are taught at a young age in school to respect him. Have you heard of the 3 generation punishment? It's so sad :( Edit: there are punishment implemented for rebelling. SO MUCH people in North Korea are in poverty.
I just want you guys to know that students you see from this video are those who are in position of top 1% of wealth in North korea. Most of students and citizens in North Korea don't have access to such education or facilities. What's worse, children are sent to the factory for child labor. The scenes from this video are rare sight of those in wealth.
Ezekiel Elliott they are so brainwashed they didn't even know what Facebook is. Even in Uganda they know what it is. Like legit I want to Uganda and they knew what it was and even sometimes used it.
@》H0NDU《 3146 Aren't we all getting controlled? Children in our country are taught the pledge of allegiance and the national anthem. Also the government doesn't allow us to see certain things on the internet or know certain things about them. Also all our phones and everything we do online is being monitered by them. The poor in the US also have to work in "Labor Camps" aka fast food and other minimum wage jobs where they have no hope of escaping poverty kinda like in NK.
@@generalviewer8347 The VIDEO's title says schoo instead of SCHOOL. And we know feeling bad for them isnt gonna free them like boy, don't you have some sense in you and we are laughing because of that grammatical error. You won't understand.
Van Ko Don't mind him buddy. He's a communist puppet probably paid and enslaved by the North Korean government to post stupid comments and replies on Western media RU-vid videos... :)
Van Ko she actually knows what is Facebook. but if she says she does. her whole 3 generation of families and herself will have to be imprisoned in a Hard Labor camp for 16yrs. for interacting with people out of nkorea without the conset of their god KIM. people get lock up just for watching a western movie in Nkorea.
I hope everyone remembers that this is Pyongyang, where only North Korea's wealthiest and most privileged citizens get to live. It almost seems normal, but this is North Korea's 1%. The city is effectively used as a showcase to convince the rest of the world that living conditions aren't too bad.
Ry Exactly! Shout it from the roof tops and there will still be morons who want everything "free". If people think that is a good way to be educated, let them go find out just how well they have it.
I'm a computer science student and I spend 90% of my class time just staring at the screen wondering how tf am I gonna solve that programming problem lmao
+AMGLEO1 They have people whose entire lives are to study English and western culture so that they can look smart and communicate with reporters. You don't think they just talked to an everyday north korean, do you?
+AMGLEO1 That's top university there, a rare occurance for NK'rs, those who go there are the MOST privileged of North Korea, Kim fatfuck Un himself is fluent in English too.
MrDoubleKiller I know that. I watched several documentaries xD... I'm just saying I was surprised they taught English... Since, "North Korea is pretty much isolated from many countries they wouldn't focus much on English.."
@@maten146 I've been to a lot of countries and there is one shocking country that I found speak really good English. It is located in South East Asia, a country called Malaysia. For Singapore, I expect them to know English. For Indonesian hmmmm..... they will just ignore you (I think because they don't understand and don't want to look stupid but instead look rude).
True why would are we different from them we should have united. I think Kim Jung un wants he's entire north Korea he's children, just like world conquerer
They saved the country from Americans. Look what happens in Cuba, Iraq, and Lybia. Thanks America for that. But DPRK will never surrender to American imperialism
• c h i m e I felt sad that North Koreans aren’t eating not missing out on Facebook! Gosh idiot teens these days! Not everything is about social media! I’m more sad that some of them can’t eat!!!
@Democratic people’s republic Of Royland by definition "In communism, the society or the community is on top of everything. But in dictatorship, society or community is only secondary and it is the dictator who governs everything. Communism regards the society or community as powerful. But in dictatorship, it is the dictator who is the most powerful. Dictatorship is a system in which a single person rules the nation. On the other hand, in communism the power is not vested in a single individual." So if I were to compare NK and China, all the power is in the hands of the NK leader and whom he has given it to (which he can take away at any time). China's leader on the other hand, my be powerful but there are other powerful people in China he must compete against and adhere to if he wants to maintain power.
@@kattz9051 Its the 2nd stage of communism. Corruption takes its toll on a state with 100% government control and a dictatorship under the guise of communism pops up. If humans werent humans and werent greedy by nature, communism would work and governments wouldnt be corrupt.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_school Free/Government Run Schools are *"Free"* but it comes at a price..... Taxation or it depends on Standardized Testing Scores just to keep them running but it's also compulsory so there's that in order to keep it *"Free"* to all.
@@guimaraesmota3392 it's a joke, and brainwashed are those who think north koreans are NOT brainwashed. Literally every defector says that it's not "western propaganda"
Everyone watching this should already know that CNN was told what to and not to film, what to and not to ask. Try going there and filming you'll be stopped.
North Korean military members won't just "stop" you either, they'll go through and examine your footage and delete anything that shows North Korea in a bad way, and then you'll be fine, if you're lucky.
Just remember this: Pyongyang has the highest quality of life in the whole state of North Korea. According to reports only selected families may enter the city and live there. So what we are witnessing here are the few priviliged ones and the absolutely majority of the children most likely don't have this "free uniform" crap. Of course they won't show us this, because it would pretty much ruin the propaganda effort.
Killjoy45 Long story short. North Korea is fucked up. I feel generally sorry for the people who live there in complete ignorance of how corrupted their country actually is. It's sad. I hope in the future something can be done to help them rejoin the sanity of the rest of the world.
@Kim Yeonghan More like the Inner Party from 1984. They live in relative luxury compared to everyone else, but it's not really even luxurious. It's just above average.
Every time they ask a child what do you want to be when you grow up, it is always followed with..."so that I can spread the greatness of Kim Jong Un". One little girl said she wanted to be a journalist, it doesn't matter what they want to be, they could say I want to be a dentist, and it would still be followed up by..."so that I can spread the greatness of Kim Jong Un". If you asked a child let's say from France the same question, that child may say "I want to be a journalist", and that would be it. These poor NK children are only saying what they has been coached to say. This is all they have even known, and if NK ever fall's or has a drastic change these are the children who will suffer greatly because they will be thrust into a world that they won't understand.
+walter kersting She was either looking out the window, or she was looking at her prompter to make sure she said the right things which she had rehearsed. These poor kids don't know what the real world is like, they only know the delusional one created by Kim, his father, and his grandfather. Keep them in the dark, and confused, what a better way to keep control over the masses.
I don't doubt many do fake their loyalty just to survive, but these children have heard only one message from the day they were born which means the majority ARE as brainwashed as you can get. I pray the NK people are freed from their task masters eventually.
She was forced to learn english for people to think that North Koreans are smart, although for a citizen that has never left her city that’s impressive
@Avinash really?do you know me?fool, foreigners are allowed to use internet in surveillance.students across asia and U.K study here.just check about kim il-sung university.😂
1:17 "North Korean athletes are expected to be the best in the world" North Korea has qualified for the world cup only twice; once in 1966 and another time in 2010.
I just noticed how no one ever smiled, or even seen as a happy person in these North Korean videos, i wouldn't be suprised if it's illegal to tell jokes
Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if all of those kids had been trained to say and do what they did, like if it was an act or something. Same for the people in the computer room and the kids outside the school.
Chloe Tan this is only 5% of the population, the wealthiest as well the rest is intake care of I mean you should hear the stories of people from North Korea
@@mobileletsplays4660 In North Korea they do not want their people to learn about the outside world and the comparison of how they are being treated compared to the rest of the world. The leader makes sure they only know limited of the outside world and gives them propaganda. Only in recent years, they allowed them internet access but its restricted so they cannot search for info about the outside world. Here the person being interviewed was someone selected that is in good standing family-wise and in English and before the interview they are told many things to not say, on the flip side if they learn about the outside world or try to escape they will be punished or killed. That's why I said the reporter should be vaguer as now the girl would probably be questioned or question the information and be curious. It can ut her life at risk.
Look at the guy at 1:49 *accepted into top NK university* "oh let me pull up a blank notepad and pose with my fingers in a "typing" position for 30 minutes"
I really love the shot of the interviewer in the computer room, it reminds me of another documentary where these guys stayed around in a computer room in north korea for a long period of time only to realize that most of the kids there were staring at their screens, not actually doing anything, not changing any pages, not knowing what to actually do because they're just there to look smart for the cameras
Reporter : "What you gonna be when you grow up?" North Korean Girl : "I wanna be a journalist so I can spread the greatness of Kim Jong Un around the world" Ops, that's not what journalist do, Kid! That's PR
it is not propaganda. pyongyang realy is that good because dprk is split in classes and only families of government officials and rich people are allowed in the capital. the rest of north korea is extremely poor and they dont even have food to eat.that is why the government allows travels only to pyongyang

With more than 120 mass murders in the 'great' (🤭🤭) USA the 1st 3 months of 2023 - ie on average more than 1 incident per day where AT LEAST FOUR innocent people are gunned down - surely Americans, especially kids, live in constant fear of death. When did you last hear of a mass murder on the streets of Nth Korea?
If you look at the college students, none of them actually know how to use the computer, they’re just sitting still in front of it while staring at a blank screen
North Korea has a totally free education system thru every level to doctorate, superb. The university student girl´s accent and command of English at Kim Il-sung university is more articulate than most Americans
True. Actually all the information in the video are manupulated by Cnn to portray north korea as a hell. This video is just american propaganda and bullshit.
this is carefully orchestrated propaganda and it has worked on you, superb. the university student girl likely did not know how to use the computer she was posed in front of but yes, her English is great
