RIP Gord Downie. Very sad that two great Canadians - Don Cherry and the great Bobby Orr - have disappeared from Canadian media for not towing government and corporate lines..
Don Cherry is an extremely knowledgable hockey guy (he got that knowledge the hard way) who happens to have a gift for broadcasting. People love to watch him, either to agree or to disagree with him. Resentment of Cherry essentially comes down to jealousy.
The more I think about it. The more I realize Don Cherry was actually our unofficial prime Minister of Canada. The man you listened to every Saturday night to gauge which way the wind was blowing. Miss him so much.❤❤❤
Meet Don many many moons ago at his bar that he had opened in Barry. I didn't know shit about Hockey (sorry, I am a gear head). And I wanted to ask for an autograph for a friend of mine back in O'ville who was a huge fan of his. i tumbled my way to Don and gracefully asked for his autograph. And he oblige and instead of keeping my mouth shut. I asked him how did he enjoy being the coach for the blue-jays...........ooops.
Yeah. Gordie and Grapes were in the music video for this song, which is in one of The Tragically Hip's albums called "In Violet Light". The same album that featured "It's A Good Life If You Don't Weaken".
I love it. Gord somehow got Canada's racist uncle to advertise his beautiful movie about Indigenous history on Grape's biggest platform. Gord's greatness and making Canada a better place to live, even in death.
