Coastal foraging - Cornwall is such a wonderful place for coastal foraging, beach combing and rock pooling. Here we have a walk along a beach on the Lizard in Cornwall and show you what can be found. #coastalforaging #beachcombing
Trojs Fishing - Thanks mate. As you know there are basic common sense do’s and don’ts that all foragers should know. Best to start out with a good safety aware foundation to build your knowledge on. 😊👍🏻🦀🐚🌿
@@TheFishLocker Yes and often with the nasty things in shellfish from harbours and outlets they are not necessarily immediate and will creep up on you over time.
@@TheFishLocker where do you think is best north coast or south coast of cornwall as I'm thinking of doing some foraging every now and again but not sure what coast would be best as where I am is on the north coast
I love these videos!! I love how you don’t waste any part of the animal and if you don’t use it you explain why, you’re educating people on marine life and how to properly handle it as well as how to SUSTAINABLY catch and use marine life without damaging any ecosystems and habitats. You cover up the places which you didn’t find anything and throw back anything you don’t feel is suitable to use, so it can grow and be used again. I really appreciate people like you educating the masses on how to sustainability collect and harvest sea life without damaging the ecosystem. The world will thank you 💞
Gabriella Shankman - Thank you Gabriella. I am so glad to hear you share our philosophy and have picked up on the message and purpose of our videos. I hope that more people see our passion and develop a love and understanding of the natural world around them. Through education and understanding of these wonderful and often fragile ecosystems can we help protect them. Have a great day and thank you for your wonderful comment. 😊👍🏻🦀🐚💙
The Fish Locker thank you!! I hope more people can learn and protect these habitats as well! Even in your fishing videos you show how to do it sustainably and throw back any bycatch which you don’t intend to use. The fact that you are just as concerned about the environment as me and many others and you’re willing to do this shows real passion and dedication. It means everything to me as I’m sure it does to you as well. I hope you have a wonderful day as well and everything is well 💙✨🐠
Another great video mate . Thanks for the info about not eating water filter feeders near harbours. I could of been really ill if it wasnt for you. Thanks mate
Great video. Your son is one lucky boy getting to explore the shore and learn about nature with his dad. No doubt you'll both remember days like this forever! Cheers!
My stepson was never interested in fishing, rockpooling etc. I tried my best! But I have a glimmer of hope, my 5yr old grandaughter.. she loves the beach - whatever the time of yr, especially looking in rock pools! With your help, and the internet, I can tell her what we are looking at - she remembers them - and then tells me, when I forget!!! Thankyou for your information that you give, it really does help! On the upside, I don't have any excavators to find and bring back😆
Brooke Barletto - My wife and our children are the biggest part of my life. As the new COPPA youtube laws are enforced we may have to stop this type of video sadly. 😫
I find your video relaxing for me. I work in the city so I rarely go to beach at all. Seeing you forging is amazing. I learn a lot of things and I enjoy watching you with your son and wife.
LiZie Kim - Thank you very much Lizzie I am glad to hear that you find our videos good viewing and informative. We love getting out on the shore together as a family. Especially taking our little boy. I have enjoyed teaching him about our world so so much. Welcome to our channel and have a great day. 😊👍🏻🐚🦀
Ah just what I needed after a cold and stressful day at work 😊 lovely to see you all out together . I've never seen squid eggs before , I always learn something from your videos! It's good to see an excavator in its natural environment 😁 just where they should be 💛🐚🐙🎣
I'm so glad I found your page. I truly enjoy learning about all the different life forms you find on the beach while spending time with your family. ❤ Thank you for taking the time to post these videos.
Lifting that rock to expose the five crabs was the "Where's Waldo" of marine life. I didn't see a single one of them until you started pointing them out, lol.
Lorie Flickinger - Lorie over the last few days I have seen your comments and your replies to a few other people’s comments, and you are fast becoming one of my favourite posters. 😊👍🏻 I’m really glad you found our channel and thank you. 💙
@@TheFishLocker What a kind thing to say! ♥️ But, it should be ME thanking YOU!I only found this channel recently, but I immediately subscribed and have been savoring the past videos...I enjoy them so much! I believe you have all the knowledge and skill to turn this RU-vid channel into a lucrative career beyond this site. Somebody, Discovery or NatGeo or the Food Network would be lucky to have you; you are an undiscovered gem. I hope to be among the first to say I knew you before you become rich and famous! Until then, you get back to work and I will continue happily watching. 😉
And this is why I subscribed to you just now, informative videos. I grew up at the coast and we ate everything and never knew/thought about the precautions you mentioned. Thank you for that.
A Layne - It is my pleasure, I have covered this in comments many times so thought it easiest to share it openly via video. There are several things people should know and be aware of that many aren’t. Even some youtubers who should know better give bad advice and examples. From a good safety aware foundation you can build a great knowledge of foraging. We are thrilled that people are getting excited about foraging because of our videos, but we really want to make sure they have the knowledge to do it safely. 😊🐚🦀💙🍽
i love all your works, make me homesick sometimes living in cold europe watching you. miss home the southeast asian home and back then as a kid i go foraging with my dad when the tide goes back.
I've just been watching your channel for a week now, late at night when I cant sleep. Very calming and educational, really glad I've stumbled upon it. Your son is adorable 😊 beautiful family.
VanessaHBIC - Thank you Vanessa and welcome to our channel. I am glad you are finding the videos good viewing and educational. That is the main aim. We are sharing what we love doing in the hope it I’ll help others to learn and love it to. James is a little superstar isn’t he. 😊💙 Best wishes an have a great day. 👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker I have definitely learned lots. I've even looked into some locations where I live to possibly take my family shelfishing. I'm in the US, in Massachusetts where our coast is plentiful in seafood. And yes, James is absolutely a superstar 😊
terriberri87 - We absolutely love the coast. So much vibrant life and variety. It is where primitive life in the UK started out foraging from the bountiful shores.
"I found a cave!" Isnt he just darling! Your family has such a beautiful relationship with one another, I can guarantee once your little one gets older the memories you all make here together will be cherished dearly. I hope if he ever has little ones of his own he will take them to explore the beaches like you did with him. These kind of parent/child relationships are rare these days.
Johnlocked the impala - It baffles me that you say that, as why wouldn’t parents what to do these things with their children? There is nothing I would rather be doing? Watching him explore and figure things out is honestly such a rewarding experience. I just love it. 😊💙
@@TheFishLocker Three weeks later and the world is closing down because of the corona virus. What is totally baffling to me is how many online are complaining that they don't know what they're gonna do with their kids unexpectedly out of school for three weeks or more. [We just closed our schools for three weeks in our province]. I do not understand the dilemma. We would have celebrated an unexpected 3 weeks of kidlet being home. So many things to explore on our little plot of land, lots of free time to spend in the kitchen as we delve into different ways to cook out of the pantry, all the arts & crafts supplies waiting to be opened and big projects tackled, so many things to do. I was always surprised when Kidlet's friends would remark "my parents don't do stuff like this" after we spent an afternoon learning how to build different kinds of fires for cooking, heat, banking for overnight etc. It makes me sad to read "These kind of parent/child relationships are rare these days".
Fairly new to the channel but have watched quite a few videos already. I know bit about wild flowers and plants and it's very interesting to start to learn more about coastal plants and animals. Your knowledge holds no bounds.
- Thank you Candice, we will do our best to continue. In the meantime I hope you enjoy working your way through our content. If you have any questions please just leave us a comment :)
Teeth on that jaw bone,a sea urchins mouth...John what a fantastic video this is and finding the squid eggs...think you said squid, anyway when the tide comes in what a great place to spend a couple of hours snorkeling.Well done cracking stuff 👌 John.Looking forward to the next instalment.
Joyce Hennequin - The whole area is a wonder of nature. Yes squid eggs. I am glad you enjoyed the video Joyce. All the best to you and the family and have a great weekend. 😊🐚🦀🌿
Shore Fishing Essex - Thanks mate. Just sharing a bit of common safety awareness with folks. The foraging videos have created a lot of interest and I thought it a good idea to cover some basics for people, as although a lot of it is common sense - a lot of people still don’t know. Looking forward to your visit mate. 😊👍🏻🐚🦀
I've heard stories about those "excavators" especially those in their natural environment, I understand they are the most dangerous of all. I'm glad Little Fish Locker is there to protect you from that beast.
Another stunning masterclass in shoreline identification and foraging techniques. Your family beach walks create a 'fascination overload' for us sea lovers! Especially welcomed by landlocked divers during all the lockdowns! Thank you 🙏.
- Thank you very much Ben and welcome to our channel. I am glad that you enjoyed our video. We are simply sharing what we love doing. Best wishes and have a nice day. :)
Hannah that dish you made on the last video looked delicious. Nice seeing your whole family on this video. The possibilities are endless for you and John because you all already have the followers. Such a nice family. Best wishes. Team FL
- Thank you Rosemary, we are truly just sharing what we love doing. Hopefully these restrictions are lifted soon and we can get back out and make some more videos. :D
@@TheFishLocker in East Tx, Lufkin Tx that is. About 2.5 hrs from Houston. I go as often as I can to Galveston and Crystal Beach for my fishing. Yeah, love Houston but sure is Hot and Humid during the Summer time.
Dublin Angling - Thank you very much. Just sharing a day on the beach. You lads have some stunning coastline over your side. I’d love to see a similar video 👍🏻🐚🌿🦀
omg I can't get enough of these coastal foraging videos - please keep making them regularly! if you desire video ideas, if you can make one focusing on shellfish like the crabs and lobsters, that would be SO dope. Don't know how I ended up on your channel but I'm glad RU-vid did it's thing!
- Thank you very much Bailey, we definitely intend on keeping making the videos, the only thing that holds us back is the winter weather unfortunately. But we will be doing them when we can. :)
As kids we used to find lots of the red crabs and the green crabs, in the rocks on the beaches of pembrokshire. Also the lots of the little fish. Watching this brings back so many happy memories. Given a chance when I see rock pools I still spend hours looking.
I look forward to doing it again when all this is over, and I will be able to identify some of the seaweed and look out for other things I've not noticed before. 😀
Another informative segment. The host must have a trove of useful knowledge to share with us viewers. Makes me want to trade my landlubber Minnesota residence fora beach house.
John Doggai - I bet you for every shore related factoid I can give, you could show me an equally interesting snippet I didn’t know about the inland ecosystem in your area? 😊🎣🌿
Going to love taking my girls to the beach now, can finally tell them what the different seaweed and shells are. Really enjoying these vids. Thank you.
You find so many things I regard as a treasure like empty shells and so on. Each time you pick one of those things up and then put it back, I feel like "oh no, keep it!" :D
- We have a little jar with our really special shells in but I prefer to leave them if we can. As you know they can provide homes for other creatures and eventually break down and become the sand. :)
It's storming something fierce here tonight, but I've got the soothing background sounds of the beach and The Fish Locker to listen to while I cook dinner! If only I could get good fresh seafood this far inland to cook up. Great video as usual.
Great to get out on the coast with the family John, my dad did it with us, and I took my 3 when they were about the size of the little fella, keep them coming m8. Davey.
If James didn't have he's excavator in the next vid it wouldnt be right lol bless his little wellies great to see you and the family enjoying lifes simple pleasures great vid
Vanessa - That really is fantastic to hear Vanessa. There is so much wonderful life to see and experience out on the shore. We love it. Good luck with your exploring. 😊👍🏻🐚🦀
