Cobra Kai Season 3: Martin Kove Teases Leadership and Action

[Editor's note: The following contains spoilers through the Season 2 finale of Cobra Kai, "No Mercy."]
Cobra Kai challenged us to look at The Karate Kid in a new way - from Johnny Lawrence’s (William Zabka) perspective. Following the familiar patterns of a bully vs. new kid tale, it was natural to root for Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) to win the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament. But then, Cobra Kai showed us that there are two sides to every story. Now the question is, can the same approach work for John Kreese (Martin Kove) as well?
We spent most of Cobra Kai Season 1 catching up with Daniel and Johnny, and establishing the Cobra Kai vs. Miyagi-Do rivalry. But, at the very end of Season 1, the folks behind Cobra Kai dropped a very interesting tease in our laps that was bound to take this dojo war to another level, the return of Sensei Kreese. Sure enough, Kreese came back full force in Season 2 to try to restore the original pillars of Cobra Kai, corrupt Johnny’s students, and up the intensity of the combat.
After all of that, how might Kreese kick things up another notch in Season 3? Hear all about that, if Kreese is redeemable, how he finances the dojo and more in this interview!

He really is wise, like real life Mr. Miyagi wise. Edited to add: the interviewer did an excellent job. She let the conversation develop and didn’t interrupt the interviewee mid-sentence.

He stated how they cared to even go to the archives. All I know what Disney produced with Star Wars is nothing short of a disgrace. You could even have Star Wars with SJW ideals and still make it work but Disney's production was nothing short of sewage.

I'm with Martin Kove in the fact that I appreciate the vulnerable side of Kreese more than the sinister side. He's a bad guy, no doubt, but there's more to him than that. And that's makes this show so good - the fully realized characters. I hope in the end Kreese is redeemed and finds some peace.

I don’t understand the narrative that John was misunderstood... he was horribly abusive to his students and that’s inexcusable, regardless of whatever his background may be.

I never thpught I would love this show so much. Even as a huge karate kid fan (excluding the "kungfu" kid with jaden smith...dont go there), i am VERY skeptical of reboots. This is dofferent because it is a continuation of the story and I think that makes the difference. The characters are more developed, the new characters introduced are great. I CANNOT WAIT FOR SEASON 3!

I love that they use the old actors who are still alive and if they aren't they don't try to get someone to replace them. They also, dare I say, have great balance between the old and the new cast. I never feel like they are forcing the young cast on us or that they are trying to fit the old cast into a story they don't belong in. This is really the blueprint for other old films if they wish to go this route. You could do a series on so many old films showing what became of the characters and the new challenges they face in life. But only if done right the way this show was.

Kreese teaches the kids to be hard but at the same time sends thoses kids to trash Larusso's property while deserted and steal the medal of honor. Something cowards would do if they don't have the balls to face someone in combat

I was diagnosed by the VA with a 70% disability for PTSD. This character has PTSD with anger issues. This is a well developed character with many levels. That is important.

Can't wait to see Kreese in Season 3. I think he's a wildcard character; I sincerely doubt he will be one dimensional they have excellent writers and equally amazing actor. Frankly, my guess is Duke Nukem drew heavily on Kreese (hair, attitude). Certainly one of (if not my) favorite character in the series, but then all of them are so good (every last one) it's hard.

i kind of see it as "aitz" is more of the combo movement sound, the minor lunges minor kicks etc. "Kiap" is more of the finishing move at the end of the combo.

It's no mystery why the show was such a breakout success with actors like this. Reunions can be a nightmare if everyone's just there for a paycheck, but I have no doubt that everyone is still just as invested in their character as before.

The villain does not see himself as a villain. Maybe the writers and the audience see someone as a villain. I think the tour in Vietnam made him the bad guy. It would be interesting to see what phases his character went through pre and post Vietnam.

they would've gotten someone else to play Terry Silver, so no matter who they got it wouldn't be Kreese, because Daniel would never train with him. so you need someone that can trick Daniel.
