"Cocaine Blues" performed by "Southside Blues Band" featuring Dennis D'ell and Lol Dalziel.
Dennis D'ell has been a musical hero of mine since hearing "Have I the right' back in 1971. I sought out all the Honeycombs records gradually via second hand shops in my local area. I loved the sound of his voice, and on hearing the Honeycomb's first album I found an excellent selection of sixties 'Beat 'n Ballads' performed brilliantly by Den and the rest of the band. Dennis stayed with the Honeycombs for two years (1964-66) eventually leaving to go solo. He cut two singles in 1967, one "Better use your head" becoming a Northern Soul Classic in later years. Dennis cut an album's worth of material with the band 'ZARABANDA' during the 70's, it wasn't released until a few years ago, and can now be found on CD & Download. During the 80's Den formed the 'Southside Blues Band'. Blues was always close to his heart even in the 60's, and 'Southside' were a fab outfit . They recorded an album , it wasn't released, however Den personally gave me a copy on cassette. I have chosen "Cocaine Blues" to represent the album on this video. A few friends and I visited Den at his Pub in Whethersfield Essex back in 1991. He played with Southside, as well as doing a Solo set. He played some astounding Santana licks on his guitar, I have included photos of this, & other various gigs he played with both the re-united Honeycombs and Southside. Dennis sadly passed away on July 6th 2005. I hope my photographs and his recording of "Cocaine Blues" will be enjoyed by his fans around the world.
Thankyou for watching , please rate and comment if you wish to.
