Lynyrd Skynyrd was my dads favorite band, he passed in 2016. I didn’t expect to start crying as soon as I heard the first chorus. You did a great job 👏🏻. Thanks for the memories!
Every time I think Cody can’t get any better, he goes and does something like this. What a way to pay tribute to absolute legends like Skynyrd. I know they are damn proud of this!
This is one of my all time favorite songs! I had a little Walkman mp3 players when I was a kid and my dad had put Ballad of Curtis Loew and that was my favorite song! I still think of my poppa when I hear this song! Great cover!
I love Cody!! He is great, singer and composer. He really does justice to this great Lenard Skynard tune. When I hear this song, it is like hearing a bit of music history. I love history! You go, Cody🎸💕😍
I see the good lord has been listening because over the last few days me and my friend have been talking about this song nonstop and it just happens to be this you drop this cover😳
I just discovered Cody a few days ago while looking for a male cover of "Whoever's in New England" for my own vocal list. This dude's timbre, guitar skills, vocal range and timing all add up to something greater than a "cover". He creates "remakes" and he owns them. Much respect.
You had me at Ballad of CL and Cody Johnson...that Fiddle and the Campfire closed the deal and added yourself to the Play Again/favorites list!!! Awesome.
Never thought I’d say this , Cody you did better then the original. Much respect sir I’m definitely a fan of yours . So much relatable emotions in your music , thank you
DAMN, this is cool!! This was a song I played all the time back when I was gigging. It was always an unexpected cover that everyone loved, but no one had ever heard of before. GREAT song, great cover boys!
I love the campfire scene.... I don't pay attention much to music with videos but it seems more intimate... More RAW! More Country! Just wanted you to know in case you read the comments! Love Always, Miranda Jane
Well I used to wake the morning, before the rooster crowed Searching for soda bottles to get myself some dough Brought 'em down to the corner, down to the country store Cash 'em in and give my money to a man named Curtis Loew Old Curt was a black man with white curly hair When he had a fifth of wine he did not have a care He used to own an old dobro used to play it across his knees I'd give old Curt my money he'd play all day for me Play me a song Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew Well I got your drinking money tune up your dobro People said he was useless, them people all were fools 'Cause Curtis Loew was the finest picker to ever play the blues He looked to be sixty and maybe I was ten Mama used to whoop me but I'd go see him again I'd clap my hands stomp my feet, try to stay in time He'd play me a song or two then take another drink of wine Well play me a song Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew Well I got your drinking money tune up your dobro People said he was useless them people all were fools 'Cause Curtis Loew was the finest picker to ever play the blues Yes sir On the day old Curtis died nobody came to pray Ol' preacher said some words and they chunked him in the clay Well he lived a lifetime playin' the black man's blues And on the day he lost his life that's all he had to lose Play me a song Curtis Loew, hey Curtis Loew I wish that you was here so everyone would know People said you were useless them people all were fools 'Cause Curtis you're the finest picker to ever play the blues
