Cody Johnson & the rockin CJB at the Owensboro Sportscenter in Owensboro, KY on October 4, 2019. Check out my playlist of live CoJo shows! #CoJoNation • Cody Johnson LIVE!
If you make a comment ignorantly trashing Cody or his opinions, and say that you've never heard of him, I will point you in the direction of my linked playlist or Cody songs to go check out. Hateful comments will be deleted. Don't trash someone you don't know - look him up. And if Cody isn't your thing, that's fine. I have lots of other country music on my channel for you to enjoy! Also, if you're gonna trash George Strait, at least spell his name right. It's a pet peeve
Never heard of him (Am Dutch, so country music exposure is limited to what Spotify recommends to me) But I instantly recognized the opening chord of friends in low places, might not have come up with the title straight away, but I know the song and I bloody love it. I grew up loving music, am still loving music, and I respect the heck out of Cody Johnson for standing up what he believes in without as he said it so clear, throwing mud. Will check him out on Spotify and place him in my playlist next to Waylon, Willie and all them others!
SB ..Its a Fact people will hate when they suck and they will suck when they hate ....Cody nailed evey song these guys are great and cant wait to see them....
Kick ass Cody Johnson! Singing with all my hero’s. Just throw in some hank jr Alan Jackson and Travis tritt with a side of John Anderson and Colin raye and we are winnnin’ ! You got my vote . Love it all
@@Dunga Right on! I love reading comments like this. Thanks for watching and checking Cody out. If you'd like music recommendations, let me know. There's some great stuff coming out of Texas and also some exciting newcomers and songwriters-turned-artists doing traditional country in Nashville!
I personally think George Strait is the real deal. No flash, no gimmicks he’s popular without really trying to be. He’s never had to sell an image. He is who he is and that’s pure talent. I’ve been listening to George since the early 80’s and I’ll never stop.
Cody Johnson is the saving Grace of the future of REAL country music. Authentic, passionate about the roots of this music . He’s a super star!! So refreshing to hear him and fellow artists who care , such as Scotty McCreery. Love this tribute to true country artists!!!
Cody Johnson has always reminded me of Garth Brooks. He’s built just like em. His music is incredible too and his stage presence has the essence of country giants before him. Thanks for staying true to REAL country music Cody!
George Strait is the heart of country music in my opinion. I can't bbq without him. Been listening to a lot of Randy Travis lately. Reminds me of my childhood. I love Willie, Hank, Loretta and Patsy Cline too. I've always loved Tim McGraw too. Saw him in concert, but he's nothing like the classics when it come to real country. Makes me sad to even say it, but its true.
I love how Cody says “there is only one king of country” and starts playing George Strait i got a huge smile on my face hearing one of my favorite artists singing you look so good in love by my all time favorite singer ever!!
This man along with Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Jody Booth, Jon Pardi, Cody Jinks, Josh Abbott, Parker McCollum, Koe Wetzel, Turnpike Troubadours, Muscadine Bloodline, Mike Ryan and many others others are making country music great again. Awesome video by the way
Gotta be honest, this kinda brought a tear to my eyes. Some new country says they were influenced by traditional country but not many stand behind it. Country from the past ( 60s 70s 80s 90s even 2000) need to be brought back.
I'm very glad Cody Johnson knows to give Garth props and puts him in the category of true country music. And he ROCKED that Chris LeDoux chorus there at the end.
I did meet Mr George Jones about 3 months before he passed. He was in a casino where I worked in Southern Indiana. I let him know his music was still appreciated.
It's NOT hip- hop either. A pervert trying to convert youth to perversion... sick of his a$s. I grew up with Kenny Rodgers, Waylon Jennings, Alabama, George Strait, and so on. Not all human beings should be coupled to music/genre based on the color of their earth suit. But to each his own. Be blessed gentlemen.
I was at this concert and it was the first time I ever seen him live and holy hell it was a party from the start and it was a blast it was the best concert I’ve ever been to. I loved it can’t wait to go see him again.
Heck yeah! It wasn't my favorite of my CoJo shows (this was my 12th in 5 years) but he doesn't put on a bad show. I can't wait to see him again either!! 🤟
They are! He's one of the best performers I've seen, and I can't wait to get back to a show. (Hence why I have so many videos of his shows haha) Hope you can catch one after COVID! Thanks for watching!
@tyler norton I think most of CoJo Nation and just country fans in general would say that it's pretty cool how he stands up for what he believes in, he's genuine and that makes it easier to like him. Add that in with talent and great songs, and you've got a winner.
SBMusic thank you. We love hearing his opinion because he is one of the new country artists that still have that traditional sound that shaped him. We wouldnt have CoJo without the George Straits, Willies, Waylons, Hank Williams or George Jones’ so i dont mind hearing him talk about people who inspired him
It's so wierd with Garth because he is so different. In many ways he is real country but then in other ways he is too mainstream and poppy. He was probably the last great real country singer but his music definitely changed the direction of country. It's hard to hate his music though he's got too many great ones.
I’m an old school country music fan....just recently heard Sam Hunt’s “Hard to Forget” with that little sampling of “There goes the glass” and thought it was great.
I miss when he was a hidden gem in good ole’ Huntsville. Cheap tickets and a great performance. I knew he wouldn’t stay hidden and knew he’d be Big. Thanks for sharing your talent and passion Cody Johnson!
I love country. I know that old town road turned a lot of people on to country that wouldn’t have given it a chance. But I think we can all define the times we are aging out of - us old folks - that many kids and youths today don’t give a damn about genres, their playlists are everything. That is beautiful to me. Let us all unite - no need to denigrate one another.
see THIS is why i love cojo!! he keeps country music alive by not only playing real country music but also by honoring legends like george strait, george jones, willie, waylon and merle
Props to whoever filmed this. It's rare to come across a recording of a live concert from an audience member that doesn't have decent audio or the video is shaking horribly or the video isn't clear. I love Texas Country Music. Thanks for the video.
Aww thank you so much! I've used the same Canon digital camera for years at probably hundreds of shows, and try my best to make them as high quality as possible (minus rude talkers and tall heads of course) so I appreciate that. You might like the rest of my channel too, or at least a good chunk of it because it's all this style/concerts and I have several TX country artists.. the ones who have played in Nashville area at least :)
Saw Cody Johnson in concert in San Diego a month before the pandemic hit. Truly an amazing performer. So humble and one of the best shows I’ve been to.
Great performance I like his sound I never heard him before I must check out more of his music . He did all the tunes justice . At least he remembers where he came from and who he was influenced by .
@@colbywalker3504 I think Rebecca is simply referring to the red dirt genre of country that mainly hails from Texas.. but yes. Variations of country come from different regions.
I only like about 30 % of country music. But the music I like I LOVE. I highly recommend you listen to Garth on RU-vid in Vegas. Man he’s funny and a great entertainer and then brought out his wife, trisha. Priceless. A lot was commentary on music. Good man
I love FFDP, Godsmack, Mushroomhead and a lot of other heavy groups. Have seen hundreds of rock and metal shows but one of my favorites was Chris Ledoux at Billy Bobs and again at the Oil Palace in Tyler , TX. Something about him being a badass made me love his music. And I'm liking this Cody Johnson kid to.
I definitely consider CoJo a badass, I mean, especially coming from bull riding and working at a prison.. he has to be. His live shows are some of the best!
I can really appreciate his way of delivering his opinion. He recognized that Old Town Road does have a place as a song, but it’s not in his lane of music that I think we can all agree takes a lot more work and skill to write and perform than Lil Nas X’s
Reading through the comments I can't help but think "all of this hatred is what's wrong with the world." If you read to the end of what follows, good for you as I'm sure this is going to get wordy. I'm sure it will fall on deaf ears, but it's my attempt to try and inject some logic and reason into the way people think. All of these comments about whether Garth was country or whether he was the beginning of the end for "real country", you are absolutely right. He was the beginning of what we have now, but it was not because he wanted to change country music. Garth is on record talking about how much he wanted to emulate what Chris Ledoux did at his shows, which Garth got to see first hand as his opening act. He was an entertainer, and that was always his primary goal, to entertain. His goal was for people to come to his show and get their money's worth, and he understood that to do that he needed to pump up the energy in the venue. As great as "he stopped loving her today", "Hello Darlin", "Chiseled in stone", and so many other great country songs are, they simply don't inject the crowd with energy. Having a 15-20K seat arena or a 60-70K seat stadium sitting there listening to those types of songs just isn't as much "fun". Garth understood that and so he played more upbeat songs at his shows, which diverts from traditional country sounds. He has his slower songs that he puts into the show, but they are at the right moment and soon after you are back at 100 mph. He understood there was a setting for different types of songs. Those classic country songs are best experienced in a smaller setting, not an arena and/or stadium. Garth has a lot of great, slower and personal songs, they just weren't released as singles or not played at his shows for these reasons. Why is all of that important? Well at the end of the day the music industry is a business and businesses' purpose are to make money. If you have an artist that's selling 2000 tickets to a honkey tonk show or an artist that's selling out 20K seat arenas, which one is going to be more lucrative? I've been fortunate enough to see a number of country artist in concert, in different settings, and to this day Garth is still the concert by which all other concerts were measured, and I saw him after he started touring again like 6 years ago. I saw him with my brother and sister-in-law and a second time with my now wife. We all still talk about those concerts, with great affinity. Over the years I've also had the pleasure of seeing Toby Keith, Brad Paisely, Carrie Underwood, Sara Evans, Chris Cagle, Joe Nichols, Blake Shelton (these 3 were in a smaller honkey tonk setting and all were awesome shows in that setting, probably wouldn't work as well in an Arena), Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Lonestar, Brantley Gilbert, Jason Aldean (FGL opened for him and did a good job), Brooks and Dunn, Bon Jovi, and I'm sure some I'm forgetting. They were all great shows, and I would put Bon Jovi second on my list as far as entertaining, but none compare to Garth's concert. So the idea is studios are going to go for the one that's going to be more popular and make the most money. And there lies the problem. All of this hate on singers/bands for not playing "real country" anymore is misplaced. If we want to place that blame on someone, we all need to look in the mirror. Radios and studios are going to provide the customer with what they want, enjoy the most, and most importantly what they buy. So if you want more classic country in your daily life, support it. Share it with those you know, spread the word. If those albums start selling and get more downloads and filling Arena's and stadiums, then it's going to become more mainstream. The problem is, that's not likely to happen because it's simply not music for the masses to mass consume. People generally want to have fun and feel good about the music they are listening too rather than the sober feeling that comes with a lot of classic country. There's a lot of death, cheating, done her/him wrong, my dog died, and other heart felt stuff out there. All great songs and tributes, but it's not something people want to listen too all the time as it does get depressing. So with all of that said, why do we have to hate on each other for liking something different than what we like? Or hate on someone for providing a product that people like? Does the radio play too much "new country"? Yeah, I would agree. Does it sound like some of those Outlaw country artists we are so fond of? No it doesn't, but why does it have too? We live in an age where this type of music is readily available. We can pick and chose what we want to listen too. Why do we hate on someone like Colt Ford for creating rap music? Is "Ride through the country" a rap song that's going to appeal to someone from Detroit or Compton? Why is it wrong for me to appreciate a rap song that's describing how I grew up? Why do I have to chose one or the other? Why is it wrong for me to have Eminem on my playlist as well as Waylon Jennings? And my hypocritical statement from all of this, why bitch at all? If you don't like what's being played on the radio, then download what you want. Pull up spotify, amazon music, and a host of other ways to get music. Buy an individual song for less than $2. How about listen to what you want and stop hating on others for listening to what they want. I have no problem rocking out to Aerosmith, Theory of a Deadman, Shinedown, Black Stone Cherry, etc one day, then the next riding with my windows down singing along to Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, FGL, or Brantley Gilbert, and then the next week riding down the road fighting back tears listening to "One Hell of an Amen - Brantley Gilbert", "Keep it between the Lines - Ricky Van Sheldon", and "Just because I'm leaving - Luke Combs". So how about we take a step back and appreciate that we live in a time where we have almost instantaneous access to whatever we are in the mood to listen too, and be thankful that there are sings/songwriters/artist out there providing it for us to consume.
I read all the comments on my channel. First of all, I don't understand how this CoJo video turned into a "hate on Garth" thread (and I don't allow hate speech on my channel, I have deleted several comments) Second, I personally am a fan of Garth but my channel's purpose is to share music and have productive discussions about music, so thanks for watching and contributing to that. Like I said, if someone goes against that and harasses, I delete it. Third, well said! I agree, Garth has been one of my favorite shows ever, I've seen him 3 times (after he started touring again as I'm only 28). But Cody has also been one of my favorite shows ever, I've seen him 12 times. Honestly, the bitching about music gets old so fast, I totally agree that everyone should stop listening to music they don't like, and find music they do! Although I sort of disagree with you in the sense that red dirt and Americana and more traditional sounding music is coming back.. the pendulum is swinging back right now. There are MANY artists out there making great traditional sounding country music. And they're young too! But most people would rather bitch about what they don't like than look up these artists. It's sad. I personally still buy CDs and vinyl, but yes, preach it! It makes me sad that my CoJo video has turned into a "hate on Garth" video and I won't allow it. You nailed it on the argument I would make as well.
Cody ..God Bless ..And dang it man you nailed them all...Long live all our legends who have past before us and that have shown us what real country music was all about ...you missed only one ..Bob Wills ...but most wouldn't know but id love to here you cover Cherokee maiden .....love it man stay safe brother
Wow real country music will survive with you. You can rope them , cuff them and sing to them. You are a breath of fresh air in the country music scene. Don’t forget momma got run over by a dam old train. Thank You
Cody Johnsons music has pulled me from dark places and also saved my relationship. As a fellow Texan I love him. I'd give anything to be able to meet him and tell him what an impact his music had on my life
Check out the red dirt scene from Texas! Artists like Cody Jinks, Josh Ward, Randall King, Curtis Grimes, Casey Donahew, Aaron Watson, etc etc Then there's Nashville artists like Mo Pitney, Charlie Worsham, Kendall Marvel, Dave Kennedy, Tony Jackson and more, all very traditional as well.
What is this guy famous for?? I don't know who he is.. what ..wait Talk about hank Jr.. wait you won't.. like you shouldn't talk about garth the world's top selling Artist ever... but until you do what he did you should just say thank you...
