I spent a ridiculous amount on capes and saddles this winter, a few of them from avidmax. I've always wanted to stock up on good stuff and finally did. It keeps me busy in the winter so that's good. I've spent way more on materials than I ever would on flies, but buying flies doesn't provide any entertainment throughout a long winter.

Lately I’ve been into the euro Jig Streamers. Relatively easy ties you can tweak and can be super effective. Last trip I tied up a few black jig streamers and caught numbers and a nice 18” brown. Very gratifying.

When I first started tying I just planned on tying PTs, midges, and scuds because I was losing them so much. However, I quickly got addicted and thousands of dollars later I’m tying size 24 catskill style dries just for fun. I love tying everything, especially dries!

💯 on the dry flies, fellas. I’ll tie just about everything else, but don’t care to get into the dry fly game (other than caddis and terrestrials). Also, dry fly capes are 💰. I love tying Perdigons and other Euro/tightline flies.

due to time i tie my own saltwater streamers/shrimp for sea bass and sea trout/salmon on the rare occasion i go fresh water fishing i usually buy some that the local shop in the area reccomend. since i live in an island region in saltwater it makes most sense to me
