Rick is genius. He really does excellent work that makes a huge difference. He stays so busy it takes a while to get the work done but it's worth it.

I couldn't understand much of what Ken said when he was moving. I do however plan to install this fork kit and probably also buy one of Cogent's rear shocks. The folks at Cogent are great to talk with and very helpful

I've heard great things about Cogent's designs. I'm always worried that I've adjusted so much to the bike that with an improvement I won't notice it. Thanks for the advice.

True, you never know. It takes some experience with well set up bikes to know what is possible.

Your stock suspension didn't fail you, not surprisingly, you simply were over riding it. The XT250 in particular has a certain speed it's comfortable with. Exceed that and it will let you know in a hurry. You can make it better for sure but it will cost you. You just have to figure out whether it's worth it to you. Once you do the forks, the rear will surely follow.. and it's a nasty cycle.. If it weren't for the amazing amount of low end grunt and trials like steering radius it probably wouldn't be worth it... I have one, am mostly satisfied, ( especially with the power band for 19 hp ) except for the suspension.. 7cc extra fork oil with a heavier weight oil helps a bit in each leg. Except for cranking down on the rear there's no inexpensive way of making it noticeably better.. Though it will go almost anywhere it's simply not made for the really tough stuff.. For example, take a look at the fork diameter and compare it to almost anything else.. Sorry to sound negative, that's just the way it is too me... It's a good bike ridden w/in it's limits.

I agree that spending money on suspension can escalate. But, the relatively low cost of the Cogent fork internals makes sense. Sure, the weakness of the rear shock then becomes more obvious, but the bike is better at what I need it to do. The XT handles the tight, rocky and hilly New England trails just fine stock for most people, but the fork upgrade adds a higher level of confidence and control in all conditions and speeds.

"Big" is relative. For casual riders, the difference may not be terribly significant. But for more advanced riders, the upgrade is quite noticeable, mostly at higher speeds on rocky terrain.

I am doing the ddc/spring/oil upgrade. The stock spacer sticks out an inch or so past the top of the fork. Did you cut the spacer or compress it to install the cap. 2018 xt250. 190# rider.
