Magnification and minimization is a cognitive distortion that occurs when you have different standards for yourself versus other people. It can lead to you exaggerating your mistakes and focusing on other people’s successes, while you also minimize your achievements and other people’s failures. The result of magnification and minimization is that you always end up feeling inferior to other people. Magnification and minimization occurs because we develop distorted perceptions of what other people are doing versus how our lives are going. We are well aware of the things that are going wrong in our lives, but the only information we get from other people is the “highlight reel” of the awesome things they are doing in their lives, usually posted on social media. The result is that we view ourselves as having more failures than others and fewer successes.
So if you are using magnification and minimization, what can you do about it? The first step is to recognize and be aware of when you are engaging in magnification and minimization. Then, focus on having the same scale for everyone, yourself included. In doing so, you can ensure that you have realistic expectations for yourself and not judge yourself by unrealistic standards of success.

This has been happening to me since I had the Pfizer vaccine. My thoughts have been distorted and it is as if my mental perception of reality is being altered based on basic measurements of actions, choices and other human behaviours
