But here's the deal: Very affluent people who aren't worried about premiums are buying the eagles because of the ease of trade. I honestly believe that wealthy people are whom the market intends to sell the eagles to.

Great video! Both the Austrian Ducat and the British Sovereign are really good coins! I wouldn't discount the other fractional type coins from Austria either. The 4 Florin, 10 Kronen, 8 Florin & 20 Kronen coins. All of which had even better premiums before covid but they are pretty interesting compared to true fractionals. Most of them are still minted by the Austrian mint today (though some of them seem to be out of stock at the moment!). Btw the 100 Kronen coin shown in the video has about the same gold content as a US pre-1933 twenty Dollar coin.

Awesome vid and very reasonable recommendations, thanks ! There´s a certain thing called COMPETITION on these markets: if the premiums on gold eagles or Canadian maples are insane, there are tons of alternatives like Austrian ducats and coronas, British sovereigns, German 20 Mark, French 20 francs, Swiss 20 Franken, Mexican 50 pesos etc. etc. And: a lot of them are historic and got very low premiums. So, gold is gold, and the cheapest item will be the winner ! 🤔Just my 2 cents. Saludos desde Alemania, U.

Doesnt really add up, everyone wants eagles and supply is limited so the price is up. If he "has" to charge 270 for a .1 age but is saturated with them so can only pay spot? Simple pay 220 for them charge 250 and watch them fly out the door. Old euro gold is cool but much harder to sell and you have to be able to do 2nd grade math which unfortunately is a big ask for some

Although I get the whole premium thing, I am not a fan of foreign gold with strange, awkward weights. I buy all my PM's with the salability in mind. This would not be recognized by most people and would take a lot more to describe / sell. I also think some coin shops would not take them because they would sit on them a while. They would probably also pay you well below spot for them if they did buy them. I am a stacker at heart and try to pay as little as possible but if / when I sell, I want it to be easy and little effort because everyone recognizes what I have. Great video T. I know a lot of people will take advantage of the information!
@joseph1895
@joseph1895 Год назад
Yes that’s very true. Over the past couple years I’ve sold a bit of fractional in private sales. Eagles always get the most interest and command current market premiums. Most people do not want foreign coins unless they are maples or Mexican coins. Even under spot people do not like coins they cannot recognize or aren’t popular in the area. If you personally like the coin I’d say go for it. If looking to resell buy what is popular.

100% I only have the expectation of getting spot price back. Why pay a crazy premium for anything other than limited runs /proofs etc, that maybe collectable in the future. In saying that I still tend to gravitate to coins from reputable mints, but every now and then i'll get a bar again from a mint (1oz-2.5oz) to average down

What this guy's not telling you is that for that big European coin you're never going to get melt for it and some places don't want it
@themillennialnumismatist
@themillennialnumismatist Год назад
Completely depends on the coin. I typically pay between 97 and 99% of melt on foreign gold. If you bought a 1 Ducat right now I'd charge you $241 and I'd buy it back for right around $218. So you're not exactly losing your shirt. a 1/10th eagle is going to cost you around $250 for less gold and I'm still only going to pay maybe a smidge above spot. In my shop if it's yellow I'll buy it. It helps that we do 8 figures in bullion every year and we can be less picky about what we buy.

Your LCS will hook you up if they want your business. Eagles and Buffalos are some of the most recognized in the world. I just bought a 1993 1oz eagle for $1950. If you want gold but can’t swallow the high premiums for gold fractional coins, either sock away the cash until you have enough for an ounce, or buy fine silver coins. Either way you are not spending money. You are forcing yourself to SAVE money outside of the banking system. You are carrying your own savings account.

Good points, but most don’t have the discipline to save for as long as it takes to buy an ounce of gold.
@beshkodiak
@beshkodiak Год назад
I agree with you: many don’t have the discipline to buy a bag of donuts. Buts its not to those your channel appeals. Someone has made the decision to build a savings in gold and they want to be shown options. You show options. I started years ago by stashing cash in a jar, a Benjamin a month. No matter if it hurt or not. When i got to $2000 i converted it to silver. At $3.75 an ounce. That was 40 years ago. About 30 years ago the Hunt Brothers tried to corner the market and i sold 1,000 ounces at $48.00 per.

SILVER AND GOLD AN INSURANCE POLICY? Since gold and silver is just an insurance policy, and meant to be kept for when things get better…I think there will be a lot of people who will starve to death with a safe full of gold and silver. For those people who want to invest in gold or silver, I would wait until the famine gets so bad (and it will) that you will be selling your gold for a can of beans. I will be able to sell my beans (which cost me $1.00) for an ounce of gold costing you over $2000 today. A woman in Argentina (which has high inflation), was only able to buy 2 tomatoes which cost her $33.00. Another woman had to sell her gold and jewelry and was only able to buy 2 eggs, 2lbs of flour and a small bag of corn meal. In Lebanon the average salary was $1000, now that amount is only worth $50.00. This is where we are headed folks.

From what I found out on the internet the American gold eagles are not pure gold, just like the junk silver. I don't understand why people would consider the eagles as pure gold? If the golden eagles are around 90% gold then they should be considered as junk just as 90% silver. Since the gold needs to be purified just as much as silver then it's considered junk
