Always liked the detail in having the victim’s ghost stay true to his character in this episode by being a cocky drinking ghost rather than remorseful and ashamed.
Yup! Haha...she usually ignores the ghosts of villainous victims. She did the same when she saw the ghost in the episode "Blackout". I love Cold Case but I love episodes where Lily sees the ghosts more than other when she doesn't.
@@TheStapleGunKid agreed. I remember the worst case of this was “Late Returns”. Scotty Valens was literally the only person in the investigation that advocated for the arrest of David Lake who did the murder. He was so emotionally involved that he literally got a legally void confession that he would record to later ruin his political career. Yet inexplicably, Lily sees the victim, Vanessa. That always bothered the shit out of me. Lily really didn’t care much about her, yet Scotty is just completely ignored, despite his passion and empathy. Horrible writing there in an otherwise great episode.
@@charlieorr3048 Yep the show was hit or miss. It had a lot of great episodes, but some truly awful ones too. Some of the season 1 episodes were practically unwatchable.
@@TheStapleGunKid absolutely. Season one was really unsteady, and reeks of a show without a creative direction. I mean, the co-lead Justin Chambers is literally replaced 4 episodes in. What the fuck, man. Granted, Danny Pino (Scotty Valens) was a 100x better fit, but just…..my god. In my opinion seasons 2-5 were the peak of the show, and were consistently fantastic for me. Season 6 had some really great stuff in it, as well as an epic season finale, but the season had some really inconsequential episodes, like Glory Days and Roller Girl. Roller Girl had to be the worst case of the series for me. Just so generic, and a weird accidental death that made the whole thing kind of pointless. Season 7 I personally enjoyed, but I agree with most fans that any depth the show had was pretty much replaced with “themed” episodes. Season 7 was undoubtedly very gimmicky (circuses, pro wrestling, skateboarding, horse jockeying, you name it). But honestly, I really liked how wonky that last season got. It was consistently entertaining, the acting was really solid, and there wasn’t one boring case for me. But I do understand why people tuned out around then. I wish we’d get a revival.
@@charlieorr3048 I actually didn't mind roller girl too much. It's an interesting twist when it turns out the death wasn't a murder, and not one they used very often. The worst episodes were the ones where the show got way too preachy with their moral messages, particularly with the "poor oppressed gays" theme they used time and time again, like in "Forever Blue". A lot of people seemed to like that episode, but I thought it was one of the worst. The first few episodes of season 1 were just crap. It was so obvious who the killers were because they didn't include enough alternate suspects or red herrings. I'm glad I didn't start watching till the later seasons, cause if I had started at season 1, I might have given up on the series altogether.
Kip’s mother (Danville’s murderer) in the present day was played by actress Patty McCormick, best known as the murderous little girl in the classic 1956 film “The Bad Seed.”
@Chimerism101 I think it was. What's interesting is that the two episodes that followed this one: "Maternal Instincts" and "The Plan" were both episodes where the murder victim was an evil person (antipathic). In "Maternal Instincts", the victim was a kidnapper and in "The Plan" the victim was a pedophile.
@Beatriz da Costa I sometimes wonder about the fate of some of the doers in Cold Case. For example, Archie Tanner and Ken Bream from Revenge would, in our world, probably be given light to nonexistent prison sentences. Archie not because what he did was morally right or justifiable, but because he was 13 at the time Kyle died, and it would be tough to prove he intentionally killed him. The defense could easily argue he was so delusional from his fathers abuse that he engaged in “magical thinking” and probably get him probation or 2 years for manslaughter. Ken Bream’s case is obvious, because good luck finding a jury in America that’s gonna prosecute a grieving father who murdered the pedophile who trafficked, purchased, molested, and exploited his kidnapped son for a CP website. That’s a case that either gets thrown out or a $500 fine, at best.
@@charlieorr3048 OTOH, Brad Atwater from Who's Your Daddy? would likely get a life sentence for his murders (not to mention his sexual abuse of his employees' wives, which WILL come out)...
I read that this was the first episode where the victim "got what they deserved." If that's the case, I think it's ironic when we see him raising his glass to Lily.
@ᴀꜱᴜᴋᴀ ᴀꜱᴜᴋᴀ Yeah, that's it, in order to get a shorter sentence, a thief shares memories of the night of his mother's murder when he was 3 years old, making the team to re-open the case of a woman stabbed in her own house in 1989.
do u know that the guy who plays Kip as an adult is actually the same guy who voices the cryptkeeper fromthe tales from the crypt series?? just a fun fact there.. :)
0:21 T.J. Thyne [Bones Dr. Hogins] Seeing series regulars or recurring characters before they were cast full time... ...one reason to rewatch good shows like Cold Case.
@@DrGregoryHouseIT And THAT's what caused his mother to shoot him--not him using her (she implied that that had happened before) or stealing her money, but using her son...
Manipulation, totally. The Danville character was probably straight or bisexual, but cared about no one but himself. Kip and his mother were a means to an end, nothing more. If it took sex to do it? So be it. A con is a con, regardless of the sexuality of it.
I don’t think he was capable of truly being emotional about anyone. He’d been in the game too long. I do think that it’s interesting that the actor who played him went on to become a marriage counselor.
This was one good episode, the financial episode I call it. The victim was a low life himself i admit, the woman killed him because he had sex both with her and her gay son.But I notice a young man getting arrested and taken out of the board meeting room at 0:47 , what was his crime ??
I think TDTam11 is right. Haven't seen it in a while but I think he offered to give information on the murder for a reduced sentence for embezzlement or something
