This episode of Cold Case always makes me grateful to god that I have a home and a wonderful and loving mother who I love more than anything in the world and has a wonderful home for us to live in.
This was a great episode. And while it wasn't the main focus of the show, it did show the huge importance of proper firearm storage. Leaving a gun in an unsecured location can get you killed.
And not only does he shoot the woman over a lotto ticket, but he dumps the car (with her body in it) into the lake, only for it to be discovered years later. The oldest daughter thought that the mother abandoned her and her younger sister. Sad story.

What if the first Hunger Games movie didn't came out in a year of 2012, it would have to come out in 2006 or 2007 that Jennifer Lawrence was still 16 years old to play Katniss Everdeen as age 16. What do you think about that?
@@Neku628 You obviously didn’t watch the episode. The lottery ticket was legit. I remembered it being 10 bucks. The mother (victim) used it to pick up a birthday cake for one of the two daughter (forgot which one) and I believe it was a homeless that gave her that ticket and they got into a confrontation and then he shot and killed her in her car which the mother and two daughters lived in due to their predicament. It was a rather touching episode. Perhaps one top ten episodes in my humble opinion.
He essentially told her when he gave her the ticket that they would split the winnings. When she gave him his half he thought she was keeping the vast majority for herself. He’d convinced himself that she’d won the jackpot and was stiffing him and he killed her over that.
binarystar21 must watch the one titled Fly Away. So sad there is also one about a mom who ends up killing her baby by lying out in the snow with it I can't remember the name of that episode but it is heart wrenching.
Katie Kazimir Oh man forgot about that one! Yes that one too! Fly Away is great but to me not as heart wrenching as the ones I mentioned. Still great tho. "Shuffle Ball Change" is another I would put in "Fly Away" category. Great music...sad story.
binarystar21 For me it was "The Brushman" and "Cargo" that got me hard because how likable the victims were in those ones and they were just trying to help someone and died for it.

@@SanneR123 Ooh, hello there 🙀🤗! I didn't expect to have more answers than I had that day 😅. Hahaha'. So, the episode was about a woman that was living in her car with her daughters after she lost their home to pay her late husband's expensive medical bills (🎶 America, fuck yeah! 🎶), and missed for years. Her daughters thought she just abandoned them, when actually she was killed and her body was hidden in a lake, and the detectives found out that she was murdered by a homeless guy in a delusional freak out, and he was put in jail still believing that the homicide was justified. Ok, sorry about the rant; I can't help myself, as an published author, I just tell stories nonstop 😅. Hahaha'. I've been on RU-vid basically since it was created, but I have this account for... Twelve or thirteen years, I guess 😁🤗. And you ^^?

This episode gets me every time 😢 I have so much empathy for Marlene. The loss of her husband and she did everything she could to keep her family afloat (no pun intended). I know it’s fiction, but I feel so sorry for her, for everything that happened. I also get emotional over Hooper. Once upon a time he was probably a great father and person, but something happened and he mentally lost it. He’s gone. 😢 It feels too real when I see homeless people who are not all there.
Personally, I wonder what caused Hopper to be homeless and what happened between him, his wife and son. I can’t believe hopper was the killer in the end. He never seemed so bad in the beginning. He was seemingly a kind soul before but that hopper died when he turned into a insane sociopath
I felt and I still feel the same as you do. My favorate episode of this awesome series..I wish it would make a big comeback. I miss the show much. I cried alot in this particular episode because my heart is full of love and understanding toward humanity the world is missing and so much needed.💖💖💖💞💕💗🌹🌹💔💋
I just watched this episode for the first time from a rerun. This was the first episode of cold case that made me cry... great episode and powerful, too.
I'm a man, and I cry when I hear this. It just makes me realize how much we all need love, even me. Not like gay love or romantic love, but just love for your fellow man, love for your children, that kind of stuff. Know what I mean?
Desperation can make you do horrible things. All the man wanted was to see his son again. He thought they had won much more and she was holding out on him. I do believe they both put their money into getting the lotto ticket.
Even sadder when you know why Hopper (the killer) killed her over the ticket. (He refused to believe it wasn't a big winner.) He was desperate to reconnect with his son, who had cut ties with him. To him, the winnings meant everything to him, but not because of greed. Hopper is one of the few killers I honestly feel bad for, along with Nathan from Wishing.
SilverJ17 The picture of Hopper's son was decades old, yet he talked about getting him a baseball glove. Hopper clearly wasn't right in the head. In terms of sympathetic killers, there were a few over the years: Jimmy in "Justice", Caroline in "The Good Death", Ginny in "Blackout", Cy in "The River", and Dom in "Boy Crazy"
I have to respectfully disagree. He is a prime example as to why you should use utmost discretion when meeting and befriending people, especially on the street. Just because someone is "nice" to you, doesn't mean that they're not something more sinister or at least harmful (addicted, have anger issues, crazy, etc.) Plus, based on the look on his face once he's put behind bars, you can tell he still doesn't have any true insight into what he did and probably never will. The mother, on the other hand, was *extremely* naive. A positive attitude alone is NOT going to fix the dire situation she and her daughters were in. Plus, did she really have no skills other than being a housewife prior to her husband dying? Even for the late 90s, I find that hard to swallow. And that older daughter was a complete brat, seriously. I'm glad her own life turned to shit while the younger daughter was lovingly raised.

Hell, even in the present day after she was told her mom was murdered and didn't abandon her, she still acts like an entitled snob. Are you even a fan of this show or did you just randomly come across my comment and need to start a fight with a stranger for some vague cause?
This one was tough. He was mentally gone. The reason I say it’s tough is I do a lot of camping and road trips. I come across a lot of homeless people and I hate that I have to use caution around them. For reasons like this. You just don’t know what being on the street has done to their sanity. In California especially I see a lot homeless who have cussing arguments with an imaginary person. Hopper, as well as the homeless I’ve come across were probably delightful people once upon a time.
omg I was just watching this episode normally, like any other cold case *the song hits at the end it's either happy or sad* then the sister come in, MY TEARS hit my chin by the time they show the mother I was bawling, after that I gave my mother a hug
Moral of the story family is everything when you lose that you become broken like the world just abandon you it’s even worse when you’re homeless the other lesson is poverty doesn’t have a skin color white or black it doesn’t matter you never know if one that could be you be appreciative of what you have and help out your fellow man or woman when you can because bad days come to all
The ending to this one always bugged me because the lottery dude flipped out because he thought the ticket was a jackpot winner and there were several points she could have told him it was only a $25 winner. Maybe it wouldn't have changed things but I dont know why she didnt just clear that up instead of saying things that could be construed as her lying about the winnings.

1 of the top 3. The other,s being A Perfect Day and Forever Blue. This episode focused on poor mothers with children. The Homelessness problem. Something prohibited to talk about in this Damn country since R.F.K. Taxbreaks for millionaires and billionaires is O.K. My mom use to say how come in America they always shoot the good people, Lincoln, JFK, MLK, and RFK. but never the bad? She is from Spain. My mom use to ask me that as a little 5yr old. Today I ask the same question.
i think all of them r the baseball player, the brother who loves dancing all these stories are extremely sad, it makes us feel how much anger we can give in and kill someone innocent
