Backspacer is titanium. So is the clip and liners. That’s what you’re paying for. The hole is not for a pin. It’s for the manufacturing process. You could use it for a pin if you want. I think if you can get it for 250ish, it’s worth it.

When I first laid eyes on this knife , I fell in love ! It's a knife that will last a lifetime , super steels , titanium for light weight and strength , 20cv for amazing blade edge retention , it's stylish as a Porsche . A knife you will hand down to you kids and grandkids . If you want the best folder ever made , this is it . That being said , is it worth it ,$$$ absolutely !!! :) You get what you pay for , :) quality don't come cheap . There's always the 4max scout as a cheaper version( - super steels :) , and the AD10 comes a close second place with the con curve , 35cv , 3.5 inch blade . ( nice ergonomic handle ) . :) All Great Folders ! :)

Of Cold Steel; 4-Max as my house knife and AD-10 for carrying. I wanted a Huge Knife and bought the CD 4-Max before the AD-10 was a thing. I knew it was too big for everyday sensibility, but I still love it. And with a literally smaller compromise, Man, that AD-10 gives every bit as much a "I have the power" feeling and thing you could need in a heavy edc. And also within reason! Good recommendation.

Great video! I’m late to the party, and after watching your vid and a few of Lynn Thomson’s talking about how we all need large knives and his experiences skinning buffalos and elephants, I pulled the trigger and bought one on secondary market. My body is ready to experience this beast.

This was a good review. I like your discussion towards the end where you discuss whether an individual would be happy buying this knife. Then you go into the territory of whether this knife is a realistically useful tool. I personally need to listen to the latter part. I love overbuilt things. That's why I love my ZT knives and the XM-24 I just got. Yeah, I'd really like to get this knife to "complete" my collection. I use quotes because that is what I tell myself now, but will almost certainly be wanting yet another expensive knife in just days after receiving this 4 Max. Gee whiz, why am I so terribly afflicted with this knife collecting desire?

Such a beautiful knife! I do carry it on special occasions when I can wear suspenders lol But yeah, you can put a cotter pin in the hole but it's just leftover from the manufacturing process. The blade would have to fall a little ways to hit the pin, likely breaking it anyway.

$260.00 on Amazon Italian version. Beautiful folder! I had a Greyman Satu Titi and folders of that size aren't the best for everyday tasks, but they sure are fun. I would love to have that thing for a couple of weeks!

I bought the Cold Steel 4 Max Scout 62RQ with the 4 inch Aus-10A blade and the Griv-Ex scales for $110.00 and love it. It is not as high end materials but you get what you pay for a great knife.

I'm thinking that the two screws on the opposite side of the pocket clip actually screw onto those two flat pieces that hold the clip, they are probably bolts that are threaded inside so you can swap it to the other side.

Those holes on Cold Steels are for a pin, I dunno why they don't throw one in the box for you. And I think its a codder pin, the ones with a big loop and then 2or 3 humps on 1 side

The Cold Steel 4 Max is actually intended to be an AD-10 XL: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3mokpuLuDf8.html The hole on the handle in front of the blade is actually for Aesthetics. However, originally it was designed as an extra line of safety to prevent the blade from closing on the fingers of Lynn Thompson on another version of Andrew demko's knife which originally had a lanyard with a pin to be placed in the hole. Lynn Thompson took the knife on safari and Andrew wanted to make sure not to have one of his knives cut the Bosses fingers. Hence the hole.

What's the main difference between the Italian and the American versions? I think Made in USA version has weight around 9.2 Oz. Are there any big differences?

@@metal_complex I have heard there were quality control issues with Italian also American made ones. Some claim Italian made 4Max knives had more quality issues vs. US produced: lock bar issues,etc...

If you're a knife guy, you owe it to yourself to try one. I'm mostly a CRK, Medford, and Spyderco guy but this is my first CS. Insanity is right. You may not agree with CS marketing etc but you can't deny genius engineering.
