I just got one of these today and, after about 35-40 shots, I'm extremely happy with my purchase. Very very fun, accurate, compact, and lightweight. Breaks down quickly and easily for packing/transportation. I didn't even bother to put on the included red dot sight yet, and I was making bullseye after bullseye at 20 yards using just the built-in front and rear sights. I believe you or someone said their Cheap Shot was as loud as a .22 short round. Mine is not nearly that loud. Very acceptable for the back yard. Nice job Cold Steel.
They are great fun. I did waste a bolt the other day by shooting an empty disposable propane bottle. Range was about 40'. Went through one side and almost came compleatly out the other. I sighted mine in at 95'. I grouped the bolts into a 3" circle. Not bad for bolts with only 2 vanes.
Hi, if you’re looking to save some money I suggest buying this crossbow from the original manufacturer, EK archery. It’s the exact same body but different color. Cold Steel didn’t make or design this product. You can find the Cobra R9 on eBay for $110 for the 90 lbs. You can buy the 110 lbs. and 130 lbs. prods off of Amazon. I own the 90 lbs. R9 and I absolutely love it, it’s the best $110 I’ve ever spent. It’s extremely well made and accurate. I hope this helps.
How large a boar have you taken down with it? And, what kind of tip did you use on the bolt? I would think that getting the string off and on the prod would be really difficult.
They can be the most fun you can have with your clothes on. I have replaced the optic sight. I put the one that came with it on a crossbow "pistol" which works great. One thing to consider is the removal of the front sight bridge. I did it and putting a bolt on the CB is much faster and way less hassle.
can the prod be upgraded maybe to 150 or 175 lbs? Its recurve and short an while I can appreciate it is well designed looking at it, I can foresee wanting a little more power which on this means more draw weight unfortunately.
It seems to me that it would be too noisy for hunting with, it's not like a rifle with a high velocity, the bolt being released seems to make a lot of noise which is going to cause something like a dear to be spooked and possibly move, a misplaced bolt is a bad thing.
Its ready for a bolt, what about the set screw for bow head bolt. It lock's it. Look's identical to Ek Cobra 90lbs. I wonder if its really 90 or 110lbs. As its identical but if its tested true 130lbs we could probably use it.
Thanks for this helpful review. Any idea how many foot pounds of energy this thing is putting out? Alternatively, what is the weight in grains of the included bolts? Thanks.
These are the numbers I got: Cold Steel claims this x-bow puts out 226 f.p.s., each bolt weighs 16 grams. An online energy calculator calculates 27.999 foot pounds of energy. Thanks for the question, hope it helps.
@@firewaterforgeofarizona4304 Many thanks for your troubles. That type of fpe is pretty respectable for a crossbow that offers the convenience of built-in cocking device.
This crossbow looks exactly like the Cobra R9. Same functionality, design, accessoires. Only a different base colour and 130lbs(Cold Steel) instead of 90lbs or 110lbs(Cobra). So which brand did rip the other brand's design i'm wondering...
i don't know, i thought EK Archery's a Taiwanese company and they've got a few accessoires on the Cobra R9/R11 which probably also fit the CS CheapShot. Nevertheless i do like the olive drab colour on that CheapShot and also the 130lbs for sure!
Welcome to buying from China. Cold Steel found the company that makes these, Changed the color scheme and put their logo on it.. Cobra found it first and cold steel found it second.. I am in the aquarium business and it blows my mind how big brand named companies put out their new pumps with 3000 GPH water flow for $200 and I find the EXACT SAME PUMPS on ALi Baba for $45..
Can you tell me what exactly those foam pads are called please? I tried googling harbor freight foam pads but all that comes up are little 6inch circle pads.
@@theoretickle2084 I really like it. I did put a different optic on it. The original still works well, it's on a crossbow pistol. I took the front sight off and reloading is much faster.
I have only done two sessions with them since they are difficult to trap as they tear up the back stop (the blunts do also). If you use them I suggest re gluing the bolt insert it screws into with a good epoxy. The glue used at the factory is little better than elmers glue. Otherwise, when you extract the broadhead from your target, the insert will pull out of the bolt and you will have to cut out your broadhead. Imho, both the inserts and knocks should be epoxied in the bolt. Please write me back if you have other questions and I will try to help.
That is a great price Sir, where have you bought it? coldsteel website sells them for 2 seventy nine, ninety nine. For the difference one can buy string stopper plus some extra arrows. I'd appriciate a reply, thanks.

I know it is. I don't know what I can do about it except it re-shoot the video. If there is a way to "dub" in the dialogue, someone please let me know.
@@firewaterforgeofarizona4304 You can use Audacity to adjust the audio and simply amplify the parts that are not loud enough. It's free and open-source software.
@@firewaterforgeofarizona4304 Thx ...I'll be going for the" first one" then. We can get the Cold Steel "hardware" in our "neck of the woods" but not their crossbows :-) ... greetz from the Belgian/Dutch border ;-)
I was surprised how well the open sights worked for what they are. Still, I upgraded to a decent red dot. I removed the front sight to make it faster and easier to reload the bolt.
I haven't used the dotted sights. My eyes are not good enough for that and I've heard from other sources that they don't work that well anyway. Some months back I removed the front sight bridge to make reloading faster and easier and don't regret it.
@@firewaterforgeofarizona4304 The RX Adder, the variant born from collaboration with the Slingshot channel Jeorg and EK Archery, is a 5+1 shot bolt mag variant of the R9-RX Cobra / Cheap Shot. Does not have the front sight bridge when not using the detachable magazine, but the magazine has the rear top rail attachment along with the piece to mechanically downward keep the bolt in place. So far, hard for me to find someone who can fire bolts without the magazine attachment, and sometimes, it is ok to practice without iron sights to help with muscle memory.
Нет. У меня нет проблем с тетивой при постоянном отстреле ее. Я использую много смазки для струн и держу струну как новую. смазка для струн шла в комплекте с арбалетом.
@@firewaterforgeofarizona4304 I think you can order one from thecrossbowstore.com It looks like just a cheap Chinese limb. They aren't expensive look for a 150lb one
Checked CS, they are out of stock. Has to be from C-19 and geo political disruption. You are going to find those two factors messing with many things for a while.
EK Archery bolts should work. The cheap shot seems to be a rebranded R9/10/X Cobra system. But since EK Archery are a dutch company I don't know if their products are available in the US and Canada right now.
To me, it sounds like a .22 short. Or maybe a subsonic squib round. Another way of describing it would be similar to the loudest hand clap you might have heard really up close.
Like many things made today, it probably came out of the same factory and made with the same hands. Just branded differently. Can I ask what you paid for it?
A few people have mentioned this. My review is of what I have on hand. It feels solid and the accuracy out to nearly 100' is great. I grant you, it happens alot, out right plagiarizing to copying under license. You see it all the time with autos.
"Cheap Shot" just about says it all - Cold Steel have either ripped off/made under licence the EK Archery R9 Cobra system. I know this crossbow - I own one!! I mean really??
I'm new to the whole crossbow game but it actually is the first time I've ever seen or heard about this kind of crossbow. It wouldn't be the first time a design got ripped off. Or the fact that they're actually made for Cold Steel for retail sale. All I know is that I'm happy with it and it works great.
That seems to be the consensus. I wish it had the 6 bolt magazine like the cobra. That said, I've used it alot and it's a fun shooter. Has anyone ever done a price comparison?
@@firewaterforgeofarizona4304 the 6 bolt magazine version was supposed to be available in september, but I still can't find it on the internet. I have the regular cobra R9, I didn't try the cold steel cheapshot, but watching your video, the cocking lever seems much harder than on my cobra (the lever system on the cobra is smooth)
@@heisenbergwalter3363 in reality I probably make it look more difficult than it is. I have a medical issue that can cause problems. It actually works quite smoothly.
Please take note that the video was made some time ago. I have since improved making videos. Am not looking to boost my ego with numbers of views or be monetized. If people decide not to watch them, all I can say is I am always endeavoring to improve.
