I believe the French introduced the pole axe to the Canadian Indians? And that became the tomahawk.

+Michael Quigley i noticed that to. he really should try to use the same technique with both, because i also noticed him swing more downward, and straight, and far apart with the trail boss, and more at an angle like a V,and closer with the war tomahawk thing. i personally noticed no difference between the two other then his change in technique i'm not saying it was on purpose, and he may have accidently changed his technique. the trail boss may seem more heavy idk, but I know I'm convinced the war tomahawk thing is no better than the trail boss.

+Michael Quigley I just watched this and you can tell the bias. The ax has much better ergonomics and the head is made for chopping.

The trail boss is better for cutting wood because it has better swing and energy diffusion (which means less soreness and damage to your bones after hours of using it). The other axe is more meant to be a weapon (?) than for wood, it certainly can cut wood, but not the same. He also prejudged the axes beforehand and that causes people to subconsciously set out to prove whatever they have in mind as we can see happened here in this vid. A mere few minutes of cutting with an axe does not reveal everything you need to know, it's not just about how fast you get through that wood, but how your body feels after hours of use.

Yep, I have one, but the head is very light. You see it was not meant for chopping wood, it was meant for chopping um, Varmints, yep two legged type, that come at you to do you harm.

Yes it is. I didn't like mine as much with the head weight to handle ratio, but this feels like this is how it SHOULD be.

No need to give me credit. I'm sure someone else has done it. I did find a video where someone put one of the lighter heads on a warhammer handle but they didn't show chopping. The Riflemans Hawk just feels too head heavy on the smaller Hawk handle, especially when compared side by side with the lighter hawks.

Wanimator If you want a short handled Warhammer just buy the hawk handle. I have done it before. Your not so lucky with the Viking axe, its on an larger diameter haft. You would have to cut down the Viking Axe haft .... and unless you 6'6' and you arm is as big a most men's thighs I think you would find that setup hard to manage.

I doubt it. This is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. It would take a year to chop anything and tomahawks are weapons more than tools. This makes as poor a weapon as it does an "axe". This isn't innovation, it's stupidity.

mbober are you talking from experience, just repeating what others have told you? Before you reply let me state a couple of points. 1) I have owned a Rifleman's hawk for several years and use the same set up as Chris. No, its not like using my 4lb Dayton Pattern or my 3.5lb Jersey axe but I have felled smaller trees, used it to split and batoned firewood, and cut a 6" to 8" tree in half with the Rfileman on a 30" haft. Is it my 1st choice for heavy felling or spitting again no, but it beats lugging a 4lb axe through the woods on a hike! So, no your not talking from experience with the product as described. Your just stating an opinion not based on facts. 2) The term tomahawk was adopted for the Powhatan language and was used interchangeability for any small axe either wedge fit or eye haft from the early 1700's till around the 1840. They both descended from British boarding axes which where used primarily as a tool to cut rigging and timber then also as a weapon. As the wedge head with a poll came more popular the term Tomahawk was associated with eye haft heads with no poll and was use primarily as a weapon. In fact the Rifleman would not be considered a hawk but a poll axe. So your statement that "This makes as poor a weapon as it does an "axe". This isn't innovation, it's stupidity" is proven invalid by history. SNSReaper just buy you a Cold Steel Viking Axe or their Viking hand axe or their new Viking battle axe. I have the Viking hand axe and it’s awesome!!! I’m planning on getting the Viking battle axe as well.
